To hate Lily Allen

I can't stand her. Always popping up somewhere that she's not required to put her 2 cents in. It's like her music is so shit and unpopular she's decided to just stick her oar in wherever she can now. I've never disliked anyone this strongly before (that I've never met!)

Extremely odd response to horrific incident - starting a thread saying you "hate" a pop star who comments on it.

HandbagKrabby · 17/06/2017 11:32

There is no evidence the local authority have any kind of handle on this.

The people that lived there deserve our acknowledgement of their existence regardless of their 'fluidity' or whether they privately rented. It should not take weeks and months to determine who was there. I is cruel to the families and community to not be open and transparent

BigYellowJumper · 17/06/2017 11:39

handbag but who knows how many people were there? If they were subletting, there is no way to know.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 17/06/2017 11:44

Thats why the word 'estimate' would be helpful

I dont think anyone is suggesting that exact names are needed

BigYellowJumper · 17/06/2017 11:50

rufus who would it help? It's not hard to work out an estimate.

HandbagKrabby · 17/06/2017 11:51

Failing to produce a reasonable estimate of possible victims because some flats may have been sublet or be on air bnb is not good enough. If an estimate needs to be slightly revised because of subletting in the future then it can and it can be addressed. Why is worrying about accuracy around whether people sublet or not something so concerning right now?

BigYellowJumper · 17/06/2017 11:57

handbag after 9/11 there was no number for weeks. After most terrorist attacks.

HandbagKrabby · 17/06/2017 12:03

I genuinely don't remember anyone after 9/11 saying it wasn't possible to make any kind of estimate of potential victims because some people might have been in the World Trade Center and have not signed in or be on official employee lists.

How hard is it say it is estimated that x number of residents have not yet been accounted for. Please get in touch if you live there and were elsewhere and not accounted for.

BigYellowJumper · 17/06/2017 12:06

They have said that handbag!!! I've seen them say it every single day.

user1471545174 · 17/06/2017 12:07

YANBU OP, she is a massive pain.

abilockhart · 17/06/2017 12:13

Wow. Some posters seem very heavily invested in their dislike of Lily Allen.

Downright weird.

BigYellowJumper · 17/06/2017 12:22

It is a thread about Lily Allen, so people will likely discuss her.

Lweji · 17/06/2017 12:27

HandbagKrabby

I've seen estimates of number of victims. What media are you watching/reading?

histinyhandsarefrozen · 17/06/2017 12:29

The police chief said three days ago that he hoped that the number of dead would not be in triple figures (thereby suggesting it might be)

For me, in my semi in the suburbs this seemed perfectly reasonable, but I can imagine if you are waiting to find out if your family are dead, then this is no help. Yet they don't have accurate figures yet- and why should they guess?

Otoh, the whole thing is an utter fiasco, from start to finish, there's clearly a lack of leadership, and a rightful anger about it all. Lily Allen might have focussed on numbers but any sympathetic interpretation would understand that she is trying to plead for more help and a more humane approach than there has been so far.

Lweji · 17/06/2017 12:30

More than 70 still missing and 30 dead in Grenfell Tower fire

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/jun/16/at-least-30-dead-in-grenfell-tower-fire-say-police

What do you think the missing are likely to be?

ClappingThighs · 17/06/2017 13:56

To not acknowledge they lived there is horrific. It's inhumane

What's the point in giving a full account of everyone who lived there? That's a waste of time imo. If you have relatives or a next of kin they'll know where you lived. If you didn't then unfortunately no one will know your name anyway. Joe public don't need to know until the death toll is confirmed. I can't seem to stress enough that speculation from anyone doesn't help. How long after 9/11 were people rescued who were still alive buried under rubble. I personally prefer not having a made up death toll thrown about.

...Or a cynical interpretation would say she is popping herself back in the limelight because she is increasingly irrelevant. (I am not saying that is the case)
Didn't see Adele or Rita ora doing to interviews, just helping out, because they have the sense to realise this is not about them. Fwiw I don't hate Lily Allen, I just think she's a crass idiot. I don't doubt she has a kind heart, and probably the best intentions, but putting herself, a pop star, front and centre in this dreadful tragedy is not appropriate.

TheBogQueen · 17/06/2017 14:03

Just reading an article in the Guardian about what had been done for residents in surrounding buildings -and it is shocking.

Two days after, some are still waking around in their pyjamas. Some people slept on the grass outside their buildings.

Local authority saying people are likely to be housed outside the borough Sad

optionalrationale · 17/06/2017 14:22

The full magnitude of this tragedy had completely passed me by until a has been pop star started tweeting about it, I am so grateful. It will make such a difference.

histinyhandsarefrozen · 17/06/2017 14:51

Anyone who tweets or speaks out about how a community has been disgustingly let down should be hated as a crass and pointless person and treated as an enemy of the state.

sleepingdragons · 17/06/2017 14:53

histinyhandsarefrozen it would appear so.

NotACleverName · 17/06/2017 15:01

I find it interesting that just about anyone who shows compassion these days is called a 'leftie'. I don't get why that is.

This. Add "virtue signalling" to this list. Tired statements thrown around in absence of any real contribution or debate.

ForalltheSaints · 17/06/2017 15:10

I have never liked her music, and her making a fuss seemingly to get an opportunity to make her views known hasn't changed that.

Plenty of so called celebrities I like less.

optionalrationale · 17/06/2017 16:17

How a community has been disgustingly let down

I am so grateful to her for making this original and persuasive point. We need MORE cleb has-beens to take to Twitter to make this clear. This a unique and essential duty they are serving during a very difficult times.

Lweji · 17/06/2017 16:28

She can tweet whatever she likes.

I'm more surprised at people who give her any importance, both criticising her and taking her as a beacon of reason.

Loads of people have tweeted about what happened. Why pick up Lily out of all of them?
