Hey.

I don't want to start a debate but I am quite worried about DUP being in the position that they are now. I am totally relying on the information from the media with regards to their views etc, but I'm worried about what this holds for us.

I wondered for anyone that voted Tory, now they have a coalition with DUP, would you change your vote?

I'd love to hear everyone's views. I am not politically minded and as I said, a lot of what I read and understand is unfortunately from the media. With 2 little ones, reading the paper online is about as much as I can do!

Please do not come down on me if this is a silly post, I am genuinely interested xx

By the way most of the government's in the EU are a lot more left wing than Labour. I really don't get the argument that a right ring leader would be better at negotiations.

Especially one who's only comments on what she wants/expects from Brexit has been to name the colours of our flag and say she's happy to walk away leaving us with no deal.

She's the one that has embarrassed us in Europe. Just look at the reaction from other leaders at her current predicament!

streetface · 11/06/2017 09:15

"People who vote a Tory.. are Tories. Bottom line."

No....I voted for a Conservative government to lead us through Brexit. I am not a member of a Conservative party. I do not work in politics. I traditionally vote Labour. I voted for a Labour candidate in the local elections.

You are not the authority on who is a Tory.

Middleoftheroad · 11/06/2017 09:19

Some people voted tactically to keep TM out, to force a hung parliament. would they have voted differently? I voted for my local MP and would not have changed my vote because that would be ludocrous.

Nobody - bar DUP supporters - wanted this.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/06/2017 09:20

Finally Hallelujah he has seen the light

Unfortunately he sees £27,000.!

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 11/06/2017 09:21

You are kidding yourself

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 11/06/2017 09:22

Last post was to streetface.

I mean you voted for a hard right Tory government. I think you should cancel Labour party subscription.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/06/2017 09:22

Why?

Middleoftheroad · 11/06/2017 09:22

ludicrous even.....
Some, like my friend, voted Tory as a vote against SNP I might add. She would not have changed her mind but again, would not have wanted DUP coalition either

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/06/2017 09:23

Oh ok!

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 11/06/2017 09:23

Throughthick if he is Tory but voted Labour to save tuition fees then he is not a socialist but a greedy Tory with no principles..sorry.

Orangebird69 · 11/06/2017 09:23

I voted Tory. And would do again.

lessworriedaboutthecat · 11/06/2017 09:26

I would vote Tory again.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/06/2017 09:26

Don't be sorry, I think voters like my ds constituted a lot of the Labour vote.

streetface · 11/06/2017 09:26

Idon'tbowlonShabbos

Despite my vote I don't disagree entirely with you. Especially now it has turned out the way it has. I think many of us felt that the strongest government would have the best chance of success in negotiations and that has now been blown out of the water.

Jeremy Corbyn seems all too willing to appease people who do not have our best interests at heart and I believe the EU wants to punish us to make an example of us. JC had not convinced me by election time he would be tough enough for the job.

But now Teresa has proved she certainly isn't. What a mess.

lessworriedaboutthecat · 11/06/2017 09:30

Can we have a benevolent dictator please

streetface · 11/06/2017 09:31

FinallyThrough

I don't have a subscription thanks. I am not 'kidding myself'. Just because YOU decide I 'am' a Tory instead of someone who 'voted' Tory in this particular election, doesn't make it so.

roundtable · 11/06/2017 09:34

It's done now. Much like Brexit, which I didn't vote for either, the votes have been counted and the result is what it is.

What has shocked me though is the amount of people who think they are voting for a person rather than a party. Even though the Conservatives replaced the PM without consulting the public incredibly recently. It's not a presidential election. Confused

streetface · 11/06/2017 09:38

One of the other main thing that prevented me voting Labour was the Institute for Fiscal Studies reporting that JC's spending plans were absolutely not realistic and would bankrupt us.

For those who voted Labour I am interested in how you feel his spending plans would have worked?

streetface · 11/06/2017 09:40

What has shocked me though is the amount of people who think they are voting for a person rather than a party.

Because you know who will be the leader who will most likely be in charge during Brexit.

So for me, had Boris been in charge on election day, absolutely no way would I have voted the same way.

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 11/06/2017 09:41

It's not in the EU's best interest to punish us but they would be willing to do so if it meant putting off other states from leaving.

Now we've decided to leave the EU the government needs to come out and say it will cost us a lot of money to leave, we will still be paying them lots of money to stay in the single market but it will be worth it.

I really don't see How TM can do that now that the Conservatives have pandered to the UKIP/DUP vote. Some people would be up in arms at the thought of still paying out to the EU and still having immigration at current levels, that is exactly what they voted against!

I would rather have someone who was always a EU sceptic, has an idea of what should happen for brexit and doesn't have to pander to Two separate sets of people with opposing views to keep their core voters happy doing the negotiations.

That and Keir Stammer seems like a much safer bet than Boris and Davis.

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 11/06/2017 09:43

I say that as a remained by the way.

msgrinch · 11/06/2017 09:48

No, I voted Tory becos I would never vote Labour becos I don't want to be a welfare state, I don't think JC could negotiate a Brexit debate / I think he's too left wing. Personally I actually find it embracing and insulting that people insinuate that I'm 'embarrassed' that I vote Tory which is why I don't talk about it - I don't talk about it becos it's unclassy to discuss politics and the sort of people who have 'vote Labour' signs in their windows to me are a joke

Unclassy... Are a joke... Etc. All insults from a person who lacks the intelligence to spell because correctly.

olliegarchy99 · 11/06/2017 09:48

of course I would not change my vote being a rational educated human being.
as make would post in very small soundbites
socialism.

bribing the uni students (why on earth can they choose where to vote to overturn good constituency MPs when non-students cannot)

jeremy corbyn

TittyGolightly · 11/06/2017 09:50

I don't want to be a welfare state, I don't think JC could negotiate a Brexit debate

Rhyming aside, how do you negotiate a debate?

AnnieAnoniMouse · 11/06/2017 09:51

No. I'd vote Tory again & hope the people who voted Labour as a protest vote wake up.

People who believe JC could deliver a fraction of what he promised are deluded. It was easy for Labour to buy votes - of course the younger voters will vote for a party offering free tuition.

The Conservative Manifesto was badly written & they made mistakes. The Dementia Tax wasn't properly explained. They didn't hammer JC hard enough - they should have made it far more clear he wouldn't be able to do everything he was promising.

However, all but a tiny fraction of the voters voted for a party supporting Brexit. The Conservatives will deliver the best Brexit, all people have done is make that more difficult for our COUNTRY to achieve.

It's so bloody frustrating.

DUP is 10 seats, they vote with the Tories anyway, it won't change anything.
