To ask if you voted Tory, would you now change your mind?

Hey.

I don't want to start a debate but I am quite worried about DUP being in the position that they are now. I am totally relying on the information from the media with regards to their views etc, but I'm worried about what this holds for us.

I wondered for anyone that voted Tory, now they have a coalition with DUP, would you change your vote?

I'd love to hear everyone's views. I am not politically minded and as I said, a lot of what I read and understand is unfortunately from the media. With 2 little ones, reading the paper online is about as much as I can do!

Please do not come down on me if this is a silly post, I am genuinely interested xx

All Westminster politicians live in bubbles.

Do you know many?

makeourfuture · 11/06/2017 08:10

How is this democracy? Nobody wants this

Nobody!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/06/2017 08:12

I would vote Conservative again.

I could see myself voting for Labour, I don't refuse to point blank, but never for Jeremy Corbyn.

littlebillie · 11/06/2017 08:14

Definitely the current Labour Party are laughable

LakieLady · 11/06/2017 08:19

It has been confirmed that it isn't a coalition nor a formal agreement but 'supply and confidence' so very much as it is now as they tend to agree with Tories voting wise.

I don't think it is though. The Tories won't be able to get anything through without the support of the DUP. The DUP will have their price, and none of us know what that will be. How much extra funding would they be able to secure for NI in exchange for supporting the Tory budget, at the expense of the rest of the country?

I have no problem with coalitions or consent and supply arrangements in principle. Imo, proper coalitions are preferable, because by having the smaller party take an active role in government gives some accountability and openness. These deals will be done by horse trading behind closed doors and the DUP have loads of experience in political horse trading because of power sharing in Stormont. They will run rings round the Tories.

makeourfuture · 11/06/2017 08:21

accountability and openness.

Absolutely

sysysysref · 11/06/2017 08:21

I wouldn't change my vote. Corbyn simply wouldn't be able to deliver and free university, free education for all 2 year olds, maintaining the winter fuel allowance are ridiculous and unworkable and I don't believe in hiking tskescup by 5% for the wealthiest either. The lib dem proposal of 1% across the board was much more realistic

I'll accept I am no expert on TM's dealings with the saudis, other than I assume she does it for monetary and strategic reasons which she considers beneficial to the UK?

Whereas Corbyn as far as I can tell was actively agreeing with and supporting the IRA. He dealt only with the IRA he didn't as far as I've seen 'speak to' to Unionists. We all know what John McDonnell said about the IRA being honoured. I have heard the "right wing propaganda" explanation so have tried to find articles with links to original sources, and I don't accept it's propaganda. They clearly have some very concerning (and anti-British) views.

If TM was saying ISIS should be honoured and being seen walking round having cosy chats with Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, then that would be the comparison.

To be clear, ISIS make me fucking sick, Saudi Arabia makes me fucking sick, and I don't agree with it. But I'm not sure the equivalence you suggest is there.

Anyway that's my take - it's an interesting issue.

And I'm still trying to research for myself the DUP terrorists links but if it turns out that the suggestions are true, then TM needs to stay the hell away from them. I aim to be consistent unlike everyone who voted for Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell's labour who is niw outraged at the DUP

TittyGolightly · 11/06/2017 08:23

I could see myself voting for Labour, I don't refuse to point blank, but never for Jeremy Corbyn.

Do you live in his constituency? If not, your vote is never for him.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/06/2017 08:27

Titty I'm not in his constituency, but my vote could make him PM. I wouldn't chance that.

Brittbugs80 · 11/06/2017 08:27

Can I ask, if the voting had indeed gone the other way, would it be acceptable for Con supporters to constantly go on about Lab supporters changing their mind? Con voters got the result they wanted, the most seats in Parliament. I'm guessing most feel a coalition is better as we still have a conservative leader.

Whether you intended to or not, it's a goady thread. Why should Con voters want to change their mind?

TittyGolightly · 11/06/2017 08:27

Titty I'm not in his constituency, but my vote could make him PM. I wouldn't chance that.

And that's precisely why this country is fucked.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/06/2017 08:29

Well not as far as I'm concerned as i voted conservative, so clearly not my view. Not the view of the majority.

makeourfuture · 11/06/2017 08:32

Not the view of the majority.

Nobody voted on a DUP/Tory regime.

TittyGolightly · 11/06/2017 08:35

Well not as far as I'm concerned as i voted conservative, so clearly not my view. Not the view of the majority.

Not the majority. We don't use PR. Hmm

The country is fucked because so many people can't be bothered to find out how the system works and vote based on misfact and misunderstanding.

TittyGolightly · 11/06/2017 08:36

Nobody voted on a DUP/Tory regime.

Nobody voted for the regime. They think they did but the only thing you are asked is who you want as your local representative. That's it. Nothing else.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/06/2017 08:44

Thank God we don't have PR. It'd be mire chaotic than it is.

CaptainBrickbeard · 11/06/2017 08:49

Brittbugs, the thing is that the vote couldn't have gone the other way in that Labour and the DUP have no common ground and would never ally themselves to work together. The closest equivalent would presumably be if Labour formed a minority government propped up by Sinn Fein (another impossibility as they don't take their seats) I which case, yes I would expect a lot of angry and horrified threads on here started by voters of all persuasions asking if this is what Labour voters wanted. Giving this kind of power to the DUP is alarming and may well affect how many people feel about their vote. I can see that for many it's a price worth paying as they feel the alternatives are worse, but I don't see how it's goady to ask.

streetface · 11/06/2017 08:52

I am not a 'Tory' or a traditional Tory voter but I voted this time for them because the thought of a hard left socialist negotiating Brexit terrifies me. He would be totally pushed over by the EU. Teresa, now weaker than ever isn't a great alternative. Lesser of the two evils. Not by much though.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 11/06/2017 08:53

People who vote a Tory.. are Tories. Bottom line.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/06/2017 08:56

Ds voted conservative last time, Labour this time. Does that make him a Tory or a socialist?

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 11/06/2017 08:59

Well now he is a socialist, and he was a Tory. Quite fickle but hey ho

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 11/06/2017 08:59

Hallelujah he has seen the light Grin

derxa · 11/06/2017 09:01

Yes I would. I actually admire old Jezza because he has stuck to his principles. Don't agree with his economics or his IRA sympathies.
Arlene Foster was nearly killed as a school girl when her bus was blown up. That might colour her politics.

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 11/06/2017 09:04

According to latest survation poll (They were the closest to the actual result pre election), if there was another election today, labour 45% Con 39%.
So I guess a few more people have changed their minds.
