Where is John McDonnell, potential lab chancellor

I've just had to goggle Lyn brown (and only learnt that she swore at a blind man). Realised I know v little about McDonnell either. AIBU to think that he's been kept hidden because he might spoil cuddly JC's image?

In May 2003, he made controversial comments about the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA), saying: "It's about time we started honouring those people involved in the armed struggle. It was the bombs and bullets and sacrifice made by the likes of Bobby Sands that brought Britain to the negotiating table. The peace we have now is due to the action of the IRA."[17]
According to a report in The Times published in November 2015, McDonnell in 1985 made similar comments at a Labour Committee on Ireland meeting, before the start of the Northern Ireland peace process. The Deptford Mercury asserted at the time that McDonnell had suggested there was a role for "the ballot, the bullet and the bomb" in bringing about a United Ireland, and joked about "kneecapping" the "gutless wimp" Labour councillors who had declined to join the meeting.[19]
In 2015, McDonnell's name appeared on a letter calling for the armed police and MI5 to be disbanded. He claimed that he had not signed the letter, which was produced by the Socialist Campaign for a Labour Victory (SCLV), but he was photographed holding a copy of the letter, although he later said that he did not know that the demand was on the letter.[29][30

If 'personal attack' = making a joke about momentum activists / someone being on study leave, then mea culpa.

Dandandandandandandan · 07/06/2017 21:00

Number 2. Snirk. How appropriate for someone whose policies are so shit!

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 07/06/2017 21:03

so where is Boris Johnson? have hardly heard from him

Boris has been all over. May knows that no matter how bad he is Dianne Abbott is worse.

peachgreen · 07/06/2017 21:11

I honestly don't know why any Tories are worrying enough to endlessly post on threads like this. You will 100% win by a landslide tomorrow. Labour haven't a hope of winning, no matter how much some might wish otherwise. The Tories will guide us through Brexit and I can only hope that when it's a disaster, the blame is apportioned appropriately and Labour have a chance at the next general election.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 07/06/2017 21:12

Oh, and learn the difference between communism and socialism

It is not nearly as clear as you think. Right wing Americans claim Sweden is a socialist state- it isn't.

The USSR was the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 07/06/2017 21:36

OP, you got the biscuit for your opening sentence about Lyn Brown. It's obvious where your loyalties lie, so you came on to be goady

What? Because the OP googled the person tee'd up to be Shadow Home Secretary because the OP like almost everyone else had never heard of her?

And why should it matter whether the OP's loyalties are obvious?

McConnell clearly has been locked in a cupboard.

tobee · 07/06/2017 21:53

Once again people equating those not loving Corbyn as being Tory. It's so funny.

lazycrazyhazy · 07/06/2017 22:13

McDonnell was on Radio 4's world at 1 today.

lazycrazyhazy · 07/06/2017 22:15

Pretty sure I saw him on Andrew on a recent Sunday morning too....

lazycrazyhazy · 07/06/2017 22:15

Andrew Marr! Andrew and I are NOT on first name terms!

IvorHughJarrs · 07/06/2017 22:19

I have a friend who works in government and has met a lot of politicians. She is always discreet and generally fairly complimentary but not about McDonnell, she is still discreet but says he is a really nasty piece of work

I suspect that is why they are keeping him tucked away

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 07/06/2017 22:24

Oh right, if your friend says so it must be true then.

tobee · 08/06/2017 01:02

Monkey you crack me up!

GretchenFranklin · 08/06/2017 01:20

Mcdonell has been everywhere...I don't understand this thread tbh.

May has hidden herself away appearing to about 10 handpicked factory workers.

More #fakery from Tories. Yuk.

Lionking1981 · 08/06/2017 01:29

I don't understand this thread. He's been openly campaigning for Labour. I have seen him plenty. A couple of very good interviews were uploaded onto his Facebook only today. I swear people only see what they want to see.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 08/06/2017 01:32

I don't have a Facebook account but even if I did why would I look at his?

GretchenFranklin · 08/06/2017 01:32

I have a friend who works in government and has met a lot of politicians......

oh really, #fake anecdata to add to the Tory bullcrap.

Tories #NotToBeTrusted

GretchenFranklin · 08/06/2017 01:36

LassWiTheDelicateAir he's been campaigning. John McDonnell has been literally speaking to folk around the country.

There's been an election campaign on y'know.

FSAKE

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 08/06/2017 01:39

Really Gretchen? Is there ?? Oh how exciting. Thank you so much for telling me.

tobee · 08/06/2017 01:40

Ooh look! It's the afternoon midnight team on now. More friendly chat and persuasive argument.

tobee · 08/06/2017 01:41

After midnight. Obviously too late for me.

Charmageddon · 08/06/2017 06:38

A couple of very good interviews were uploaded onto his Facebook only today. I swear people only see what they want to see.

😂😂

The trouble with echo chambers is that they're echo chambers.

I've seen TM heckled & taken to task at various points, Tim Farron too; I've seen TM knocking on doors & people refusing to answer.

That's what happens when you go to places that aren't safe territory.

What Tory heartland has JC door knocked in?

When has JC gone to a Jewish-heavy or forces-heavy area?

At what point has JC or JMc pushed their comfort zone outside their bubble?
With no loud crowds of activists surrounding them?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 08/06/2017 06:43

Corbyn was at a rally in Glasgow yesterday. Even after losing Scotland in 2015 and losing Glasgow in the council elections it is still the place where he will find the warmest audience.

Leaderwithsoul · 08/06/2017 07:21

What nonsense. Scottish Labour are getting a very hard time. There are many other places that would be easier.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 08/06/2017 07:33

There has been some analysis done on the different campaigns as to where they have been.

Corbyn has done a lot of Labour heartlands where they are safe.

May has done more marginals and seats they could take.

It makes me wonder whether for JC this is about suring up votes for the inevitable leadership contest if they lose.
