I've just had to goggle Lyn brown (and only learnt that she swore at a blind man). Realised I know v little about McDonnell either. AIBU to think that he's been kept hidden because he might spoil cuddly JC's image?

In May 2003, he made controversial comments about the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA), saying: "It's about time we started honouring those people involved in the armed struggle. It was the bombs and bullets and sacrifice made by the likes of Bobby Sands that brought Britain to the negotiating table. The peace we have now is due to the action of the IRA."[17]
According to a report in The Times published in November 2015, McDonnell in 1985 made similar comments at a Labour Committee on Ireland meeting, before the start of the Northern Ireland peace process. The Deptford Mercury asserted at the time that McDonnell had suggested there was a role for "the ballot, the bullet and the bomb" in bringing about a United Ireland, and joked about "kneecapping" the "gutless wimp" Labour councillors who had declined to join the meeting.[19]
In 2015, McDonnell's name appeared on a letter calling for the armed police and MI5 to be disbanded. He claimed that he had not signed the letter, which was produced by the Socialist Campaign for a Labour Victory (SCLV), but he was photographed holding a copy of the letter, although he later said that he did not know that the demand was on the letter.[29][30

A perfect example of why the parties try to keep some of their candidates in the background.

depends on what type of growth you want though doesn't it make? Growth of the public sector isn't sustainable, self-supporting growth. One of the problems in Scotland is that we don't have a high enough rate of private sector growth.

Blindly borrowing to fund building projects isn't going to support a vibrant and diverse economy.

Green growth? Solar? Tidal? Public transport?

It's a huge area....sadly pretty much ignored by the Tories. Heck they did away with the Climate Change minister didn't they?

Aligning with Trump again perhaps?

NoLotteryWinYet · 07/06/2017 13:09

Scotland is still waiting for the economic growth from new energy to eventuate.

Dandandandandandandan · 07/06/2017 13:11

Makebot does not compute facts

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 07/06/2017 13:13

No, he has nice line of headlines.

makeourfuture · 07/06/2017 13:17

"In 2015, Scotland generated 59% of its electricity consumption through renewable sources, exceeding the country's lofty goal of 50% renewable energy by 2015"

www.scottishrenewables.com/sectors/renewables-in-numbers/

Not a complete failure. You go Scotland!

Maybe we need some SNP action down here!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 07/06/2017 13:18

You are running out of exclamation marks, Make.

Dandandandandandandan · 07/06/2017 13:20

Yeah the Scottish economy is doing just brilliantly... bless sturgeon and her Neverendum.

fevversbetterout · 07/06/2017 13:23

He's just finished an interview on radio 4. You can probably pick it up on the BBC website.

makeourfuture · 07/06/2017 13:26

UK isn't doing too well either:

Bless May and her austerity.

NoLotteryWinYet · 07/06/2017 13:27

the SNP need economic growth of 4% pa to be able to support themselves independently, the SNP goal. They are nowhere near it, despite meeting their renewable electricity target...in fact, they're on the brink of recession despite the SNP.

Dandandandandandandan · 07/06/2017 13:30

But makebot, you were JUST saying that Scotland was doing really well and we needed More SNP.

Dandandandandandandan · 07/06/2017 13:30

Makebot

waitforitfdear · 07/06/2017 13:40

Literally crying with laughter at that Dand

Hey make spend and bust spend and bust aye!

tobee · 07/06/2017 13:40

Your points about McDonell are excellent OP. He's an appalling man and I don't think Corbyn is any better. I also think that they are incompetent. It's just ridiculous that anyone should think this turn for the Labour Party is anything but highly damaging to the left. I'm a Labour Party member and have supported them for 35+ years. People who say I am any kind of right wing have no idea what they are talking about and are only interested in looking at politics from a very limited stance to suit them.

ForalltheSaints · 07/06/2017 13:56

I thought the John McDonnell comments were for tomorrow's Daily Mail?

waitforitfdear · 07/06/2017 13:58

I think the young ones under 40 don't really remember the awful years when labour imploded after the militant tendency infiltration and the years thatcher ran amock with no credible opposition.

Those older supportung Corbyn well that's their conscience to examine.

NoLotteryWinYet · 07/06/2017 14:16

I'm just under 40 - old enough to have been a huge supporter of Blair and thoroughly appalled at Corbyn's utter disregard for the Blair-Brown achievements.

waitforitfdear · 07/06/2017 14:25

Yes NotLottery me too though sadly a bit older than you. Smile

NoLotteryWinYet · 07/06/2017 14:31

DH and I are trying to talk to ourselves in soothing tones about tomorrow's results - whoever wins this election Brexit is going to be a bitter pill and I can't see it being more than a one-term govt, whether it's the tories or this labour team. I hope for better choices in 5 years!

londonrach · 07/06/2017 14:33

Same place the 10 pledge stone is maybe. Good point op. This has got to be the strangest election ever with both sides not wanting to win.

tobee · 07/06/2017 14:44

Keep telling yourselves it's all a right wing press stitch up, Corbyn supporters.

Just decided I'm voting LibDem tomorrow. Thanks largely to this very this very thread. I feel sick. But I'm not the only one.

tobee · 07/06/2017 14:47

Thankful to read NoLottery and waitfor and similar posts to feel we haven't all gone insane.

Dawndonnaagain · 07/06/2017 16:02

TheNaze, not your fault, I didn't until late on this morning either. Was just trying to point it out, no need to apologise. Hope I didn't make you feel bad. Flowers
