DH taking piss out of my arm bands

Went swimming with DH this morning and he was constantly ripping the piss out of my arm bands. I've told him before about this and how it puts me off going swimming at all. AIBU to refuse to go with him in future? He says I'M embarrassing HIM

Adult arm bands? Surely they wouldnt work as a flotation aid because of the proportion of an adults body?

Arm bands don't really help children much. They really won't hold an adult up! Use a float if you must.

I'd have thought pool noodles would have been of more use to an adult as a flotation aid.
At least you can wrap them round his neck and strangle the fucker if he so much as smirks at you.

Surely you don't need arm bands? Just stay in the shallow end. They don't help you learn to swim anyway. I can't believe an instructor would recommend them for an adult.

Well, armbands aren't great for learning to swim, and surely you can touch the bottom in 70% of the pool?

They're a placebo. Which is fine. Go on your own if he can't be supportive.

My dc never used arm bands to learn to swim but did use a variety of floats including flat ones and noodles

Children should not use armbands to learn to swim, they get in the way.

My kids never used armbands when learning to swim. Get a teacher who knows what they're doing and builds your confidence in the water.

Pay for a couple of private lessons or find a group class at your council pool. You will pick it up more quickly and learn better technique which will also help you pick it up quicker. Your dh clearly isn't helping and the arm bands won't be helping either

You need to book proper lessons with an instructor. Having your DH try to teach you clearly isn't working.

I learned to swim in my early 40s and a swim belt helped loads. Having lessons from a qualified swimming instructor will help, they won't laugh at you and you'll gain confidence in the water more quickly.

Like others I think you'd find a noodle or float more useful. I've never seen anyone older than about 9 wear arm bands.
