To have 'humiliated' my MIL

ImALurkerNotAFighter · 07/05/2017 11:22

MIL has an awful tendency to do 'penis portions'. I'd avoided staying with her for a few years, as when breastfeeding she'd served up a tiny inadequate meal, then told me she hadn't done a plate for DS as 'he could just have some of mine' Angry This was on top of sly little digs about my weight.
So MIL wanted us to stay this weekend so she could spend time with the DC. DH usually goes alone but apparently as I'm free this weekend it would be rude for me not to come. They very kindly babysat the asleep DC while we went to the pub. This morning MIL does breakfast for us and SIL and BIL. I get 1 small sausage, 1 half piece of bacon, 1 egg and a small slice of dry toast. MIL and SIL have similar. DH, FIL and BIL get 3 large sausages, 2 bacon, 2 eggs, beans and black pudding. I asked MIL if there was any more, she looked shocked and said no.
I was very cross at this point and walked round the table, took half the sausage, black pudding and beans off a very quiet DH to even it up (we were both left with pretty equal quantities) and sat back down.
MIL feels I have humiliated her, and 'at your size you clearly don't realise that was a proper breakfast '. I'm a size 18, so yes, fat.
I'm fuming and want to leave now. DH wants to stay and take them out for lunch as planned.
I know there are mumsnetters out there who believe the wimminz should subsist on a lettuce leaf and a sniff of meat, but sensible people of mumsnet WIBU? AIBU to pack the DC and leave?

My MIL often does this - bacon sandwich with one slice of bread and one bacon medallion anyone? But the difference is, she snacks lots between and after meals - I would rather eat a decent sized meal and then nothing else. She will often eat dinner, a dessert, a piece of cake and a packet of crisps. I'd rather have a larger dinner, but nothing else.

SoulAccount · 07/05/2017 20:07

The OP didn't actually say that this particular breakfast wasn't enough, she seemed to focus on the discrepancy/ unfairness / principle.

scootinFun · 07/05/2017 20:08

So Op- how was lunch?

justgivemeamo · 07/05/2017 20:16

I'm not saying you're sticking up for mil, but the insistence that op's portion was sufficient is bordering on fat shaming
I am glad you see that in navys posts too.

However there are some posters on here who never ever side with Dils I think this is more about a mil thing for Navy. For instance if ops Aunt had done this Navy may have had a different response.

Your very lucky Lwjei in my world its a world of controlling Nazi Mils who want to control everything and do things how they should be in their world.

YY to taking it off mils plate Grin Grin that would have made world news op.

On the back of this thread I have decided to take my own food to any future BBQ at mils house. In fact as she does to us - take our own stuff.

Like op I refuse to sit through any more shite from her - go OP Grin

YABU, me and my DH both have fitbits and worked out our TDEE, mine is 1600 while his is 2200, that means he can eat 600 calories more then and not put on weight, also if the at the calories I need in a day to stay at my current weight he would feel tired.

Male and female have different calorie needs and if you are size 18 you are obviously overeating, I suggest you buy a fitbit, work out your TDEE and then plan your day around your calorie needs.

Chippednailvarnishing · 07/05/2017 20:24

I don't remember the OP asking your advice user

user1494184470 · 07/05/2017 20:25

She asked for advice in the OP of this thread, she posted on AIBU for advice.

Chippednailvarnishing · 07/05/2017 20:27

Nahh, you're just a GF

Just read the OP again, not once has she asked for advice on the use of a Fitbit or TDEE, or whether or not she was overeating, or any of the other things you mention in your post, UserBlah . She asked if she was being unreasonable about being miffed about receiving a much smaller breakfast than her DH.

PyongyangKipperbang · 07/05/2017 20:29

SHe didnt ask for advice on her food intake or her need (or not) to lose weight.

I suggest you read my post above about not over eating in anyway and yet still being a 16/18 because I put on weight when ill and am not ready to attempt to lose it yet. Not every over weight person eats until they are bursting as you seem to think.

user1494184470 · 07/05/2017 20:30

And she was and I gave the reasons why and how she could go about fixing her issues.

Yup userblah you're a GF

EvansOvalPies · 07/05/2017 20:31

She didn't ask for advice on how to "fix her issues". She asked for opinions on the unfairness of having a smaller breakfast enforced upon her against her will

justgivemeamo · 07/05/2017 20:32

She asked for advice in the OP of this thread, she posted on AIBU for advice

Can you be more specific and say what she asked for advice on, because I cant see anywhere anything that even alludes to needing advice on weight loss.

pyong I love your weight loss rationalistion, because I am the same, I am not putting weight on but staying the same, I tell myself if I could magic myself to a 10 I would also stay there.

RainbowJack · 07/05/2017 20:33

user1494184470 I think the lack of food is affecting your vision.
OP didn't ask for advice on how to lose weight or food intake.
Praps you need to have a piece of cake and a lie down pet

ToastDemon · 07/05/2017 20:34

What about your issues user? How are you going to fix your lack of reading comprehension?

user1494184470 · 07/05/2017 20:34

But the smaller size meal is not unfair, women have different calorie needs then men and MiL gave appropriate meal sizes to each person.

Moussemoose · 07/05/2017 20:35

user1494184470 what you need is a nice big sausage. Or two. Or three.

A couple of eggs.

A whole slice of bacon or 4.

Beans.

Black pudding.

Moussemoose · 07/05/2017 20:36

Toast?

Marmalade?

Chippednailvarnishing · 07/05/2017 20:37

Tack and sensitivity?

EvansOvalPies · 07/05/2017 20:38

Yes, UserBlah is a GF

user1494184470 · 07/05/2017 20:38

Just saying fitbits are cheap, work out your TDEE and eat to your needs, the savings alone in the overeating of food will cover the cost of the fitbit within a month.
