Do you feel guilty about being well off?

Inspired by the thread about big houses. Growing inequality within developed societies is becoming a global issue and was arguably a key factor in Brexit and the election of Trump etc

Many of us have more than we need, much more than others. I say I believe in societal inequality - and I sincerely believe that I do - but apart from reasonable donations to charity and votes for the left of centre candidates (Green, in my case) I'm not really doing anything to disrupt the status quo.

I'm well off, partly because I've worked hard, but mostly (if I'm honest) because I'm lucky and I feel guilty about it.

AIBU? Or is greed just a fundamental part of human nature?

We're not super rich, but probably top 5% in country we live in.

I don't really see the point in feeling guilty. Inequality is a defining feature of the world, I can't change that by feeling guilty.

I am very grateful for what I have though. A great deal of it is luck. Sure I worked hard and have done better than many of my peers, but I had the ability and the opportunities. Carers work damn hard and get fuck all for it.

We try to do our bit, we donate to charity, we do some volunteer work, we pay our taxes (not a given in this country). I vote for left leaning parties.

I don't think 'guilt' is helpful, but I do wish the world wasn't like this. I'm grateful that I can give my DS opportunities though.

I don't feel guilty but I recognise my privilege. That's why I vote Labour, even though I'm better off under the Conservatives, and why I give to charity.
