Outside my DS's school (where he's been attending for the last 4 years), parents always park on the double yellow lines at drop Off and pickup times. I'm no different. Yet today or of the blue, one mum who arrived after me but managed to find a parking bay, started giving it to me loudly, saying I was breaking the law by parking on the double yellows and was responsible for knocking children off the road and killing them. I let her go on, and held my tongue simply as I didn't think it appropriate to create a scene right outside the school in front of kids etc. She was letting it rip, in front of her son. I kept my cool ...But I've come home, thinking about this incident, and really quite upset.

She probably shouldn't have put it the way she did, but she was right and you were wrong. Parking on the double yellows outside a school is irresponsible and dangerous.

LadyOrangutan · 02/05/2017 18:38

It's not nice to be shouted at, but she was right. You are endangering the children.

Salmotrutta · 02/05/2017 18:38

Um, well she's right.

Just because everyone else does it doesn't make it ok Hmm

MooPointCowsOpinion · 02/05/2017 18:38

She was being a fish wife, and you were breaking the law.

Schools usually have the police or when lots of parents do this, a few tickets given out sorts you lot out. Don't park there, please. I'm speaking as a teacher here. There's yellow lines for a reason.

KungFuPandaWorksOut16 · 02/05/2017 18:39

You shouldn't park on the yellow lines, just because others do it doesn't mean it's ok. She's probably just annoyed. It is my let peeve when dropping my sister's children off, when cars are parked everywhere they shouldn't be.

Allthebestnamesareused · 02/05/2017 18:39

Just because other people do it doesn't make it right!

Pinkheart5917 · 02/05/2017 18:39

Well double yellow lines aren't for parking on and she was right tbh

witsender · 02/05/2017 18:39

Yeah, don't park on the double yellows, it's a dick move.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 02/05/2017 18:40

Would you park on double-yellows in any other situation? No?

PossumInAPearTree · 02/05/2017 18:41

Good for her for telling you.

chickenowner · 02/05/2017 18:41

Why on Earth do you think you're allowed to park on double yellow lines? It's illegal!

flapjackfairy · 02/05/2017 18:41

I agree. Maybe she is fed up of biting her tongue and finally snapped.
And if she parked in a parking bay after arriving later than you why didnt you park in one ??

BillSykesDog · 02/05/2017 18:42

Well I can understand her frustration. You're not 'no different from everyone else', you're one of a group of people who've selfishly decided the rules don't exist. You're putting children's lives at risk just for convenience or because you can't be arsed to walk. You deserved it.

Is this a reverse? Surely nobody is this entitled?

What at horrible mum. the only thing I can think, off is did,you drive too near a child (her child?) without realising? Were you the only, one parking there? Was the shouting directed at all the mum's or just you? Did you pick her space?

Parking outside schools is a real minefield, and all, schools, have their, unofficial, rules, and regulations.

DonkeyExplosion · 02/05/2017 18:45

Parents always used to park on the double yellows outside our school too - in the face of multiple polite requests from the school not to, inclusing posters made by the children etc asking them not to. Back last year one of the young childen got hurt by a car on the double yellow area. Since then there has been input from local parking wardens, local police and at each pick up and drop off the school has to send a member of staff, out of the school so divert them from whatever else they should be doing, to move on persistent offenders. Finally the situation seems to be under control and the message is sinking in.

It's selfish, lazy and dangerous.

flapjackfairy · 02/05/2017 18:46

Hardly unofficial arrangements.
Double yellows ?
They are there to make it illegal to park there not to choose to ignore at will

SoupDragon · 02/05/2017 18:46

People who park on double yellow lines near schools should be shouted at.

The lines are there for a reason, they aren't just decorative.

ImperialBlether · 02/05/2017 18:48

Do you know the purpose of the double yellow lines, OP?

Just park where you should do and walk, rather than trying to park nearer.

NotAnotherUserName5 · 02/05/2017 18:49

You shouldn't have been parked there, end of.

JennyOnAPlate · 02/05/2017 18:52

This has got to be a reverse surely?

Laniakea · 02/05/2017 18:53

well done her.

Do you understand why there are double yellow lines around the school? And how dangerous it is to ignore them? And that it isn't an 'unofficial' rule ?

Feel upset if you must but you were utterly unreasonable to park there in the first place.

snorymcsnoreson · 02/05/2017 18:54

Reverse?

Beelzebop · 02/05/2017 18:55

She's right, you feel bad because you're embarrassed. Just because everybody else does it, do you have to?
