Outside my DS's school (where he's been attending for the last 4 years), parents always park on the double yellow lines at drop Off and pickup times. I'm no different. Yet today or of the blue, one mum who arrived after me but managed to find a parking bay, started giving it to me loudly, saying I was breaking the law by parking on the double yellows and was responsible for knocking children off the road and killing them. I let her go on, and held my tongue simply as I didn't think it appropriate to create a scene right outside the school in front of kids etc. She was letting it rip, in front of her son. I kept my cool ...But I've come home, thinking about this incident, and really quite upset.

You shouldn't have parked there. Simple.

Parking on double yellows, outside a school no less?! Have some sense.

CuppaTeaTeddy · 02/05/2017 20:55

Just because other people do it, it doesn't make it any more legal. You shouldn't have parked there and if she hadn't had shouted, you would have kept doing it. Stop being lazy, park in a real parking space, and walk to collect your children.

If someone had knocked your child over because they chose to park on a double yellow line, you would have gone mental. It's dangerous so just don't do it.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 02/05/2017 20:59

Corstorphine Primary School, Edinburgh?

Thanks to parents like you, they're going to re-introduce residents parking only and police traffic wardens.

Andrewofgg · 02/05/2017 21:00

Thank you FrancisCrawford - good of you to take the trouble. More power to the council's elbow!

LagunaBubbles · 02/05/2017 21:00

They are double yellow lines OP and they are a reason - no parking. Unless you think you are above the law somehow.

CuppaTeaTeddy · 02/05/2017 21:00

On a scale of 1-10 of doing something dickish. You was an 11.

babyinarms · 02/05/2017 21:01

I hate school parking ! It's so difficult but I'm afraid a double yellow can't be ignored. It's there to allow visibility hate to say but uabu.

PuffinNose · 02/05/2017 21:17

You were parking dangerously and saying everyone else does too is not an excuse.
She probably could have handled it differently but ultimately someone clearly needs to raise it.

Vroomster · 02/05/2017 21:18

Come on OP, don't be stupid.

fanfrickintastic · 02/05/2017 21:29

stop parking like an entitled twat and you won't get shouted at will you?

YABU

happypoobum · 02/05/2017 21:29

Is this a joke? Of course you can't park on double yellow lines. I am glad someone shouted at you. Perhaps you won't behave like such a dick from now on and will park legally?

Somehow though I doubt it Sad

Lambbone · 02/05/2017 21:31

Quite surprised by the number of commentators who seem to think that driving to primary school at all is normal. I can't believe everyone lives in the depths of the countryside.

Oh, and OP- get a grip.

ShoesHaveSouls · 02/05/2017 21:35

At my DC's primary school, residents campaigned for yellow lines all over the place because they were so sick of the thoughtless parking. 50 cars (say) would park sensibly and safely - but then just 1 or 2 would park in a really fucking stupid place and block all the traffic. Now, those same parents park on the yellow lines anyway Hmm

But nothing beats the mum who one day parked on the zebra crossing by the school- yes, actually ON THE zebra crossing. Because she was just going to be a minute.

2017SoFarSoGood · 02/05/2017 21:36

Perhaps tomorrow you might find shouty mother and thank her for opening your eyes to this issue. Her DC learned that it was not okay to park dangerously and that it is illegal, and that their mother is willing to stand up for their safety and to follow the rules.

Your DC learned the opposite. Now's as good a time as any to turn it around.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 02/05/2017 21:37

I wish all the selfish arsehole parkers at Corstorphine Primary School would read this thread. Sad

Can't feel sorry for you, why are you parking dangerously outside a school? People do this at my dds infant school and it boils my piss- is it so hard to park a bit further away and use your legs for a few mins.

BillyButtfuck · 02/05/2017 21:41

This is either really goady or you're just extremely entitled, obnoxious, thick or ignorant.

toolonglou · 02/05/2017 21:51

Woah, bet you are regreting posting this post OP.
All of these criticisms are correct. However, we all do silly things sometimes and its not nice to be publically shouted out and humiliated in the street in front of loads of other mothers you have to see day after day.

Guess you won't be parking on double yellow lines again!

AudTheDeepMinded · 02/05/2017 21:51

I live next to a school, we share an access road. Entitled idiots park on the double yellows and block us in all the time (and, of course, kit's bloody unsafe). Not only that but they drive into our private parking area at speed (I have small children often walking with me to school across the area) to turn round. One woman, who had parked in my space for drop off, had the cheek to tell me 'I shouldn't have bought a house next to a school if I didn't want people to use my private parking space'.
YABVVU
Leave your house in plenty of time, park legally and walk the extra five minutes if necessary.

EilaLila · 02/05/2017 21:52

It's good you're upset, maybe you'll think twice next time.

pennypickle · 02/05/2017 21:55

Op hasn't been back. Hopefully she has learnt that double yellow lines are there for a reason - mainly to save lives!

PortiaCastis · 02/05/2017 21:56

What the fuck did you expect, a sherbet lemon? Ffs you were parked illegally and you deserve all you get

Groovee · 02/05/2017 21:57

@ChickenVindaloo2 it's not just Corstorphine, Gylemuir, Carrick Knowe and Fix Covert is a mare. In fact Queensferry and most other schools in Edinburgh have lots of ignorant parkers who think they come first. Parking at the Dr's is horrendous and I have a disability!

Spectre8 · 02/05/2017 22:04

Working in transport and designing roads we have auditors who review layouts and markings for road safety for all users and its taken very seriously. We have guidelines to not clutter to the road too much as well so any marking on the road is there for a genuine purpose because its to ensure the safety of a user(s) whether its a pedestrian, cyclist or driver. If there are double yellow lines its because when all users have been modelled in their behaviour it was deemend safe to have them their.

I have little sympathy for those who break those rules and then injure or kill someone, they deserve everything they get because for those few minutes you saved you will have caused untold misery.

I had someone in the office bragging how they drove at 100mph on the motorway and I said to them its no laughing matter nor something to brag about. On a 100 mile route driving at 100mph compare to 90mph only saves 6 mins driving at 90mph to 80mph only saves another 6 mins and driving at 70mph compared to 80mph another 10 mins so all in all a total saving of 20 mins..it really isn't that much time.
