Do I drink too much?

I drink a bottle of wine every night. DH says this is too much and thinks I should stop.

Is it too much? Thought it was okay.

I have no idea how many units are in a bottle.

9 units in a bottle of 12% wine.

frieda909 · 05/04/2017 18:42

How do you feel when you don't drink one night?

Isadora2007 · 05/04/2017 18:42

If you have to ask then you actually know it is.
If you can't not have it then it is a problem.
Hopefully you can get some help. Or cut down gradually by yourself?

user1491413344 · 05/04/2017 18:42

OP do you feel yourself that it's too much?

Are you functioning ok next day? Can you go to work/look after kids, drive safely next morning etc. are you short of money or anything?

At least you are drinking the wine in front of OH, and not hiding it. Good sign.

I am not going to judge anyone.

EffinElle · 05/04/2017 18:44

Cup of tea and chocolate eclair.

user1491413344 · 05/04/2017 18:44

I get grumpy and snappy if I try to go without so I don't even bother trying any more. I just drink the wine and it keeps everyone happy.

Drink tea.

Notmyrealname85 · 05/04/2017 18:44

I think find an alternative way of relaxing. Take time out if poss even if 20 mins on your own to just sit in the quiet, and think what you could change long term so you don't need to rely on an easy escape Flowers

bigchris · 05/04/2017 18:44

Work out how many calories is in a bottle of wine, then add the inevitable amount from the snacking that goes with it and it'll soon put you off

muttrat · 05/04/2017 18:45

Lots of people relax and unwind without booze.

I am looking forward to curling up on the sofa with a tea, my book, my dog and the TV remote. Sometimes I have a glass of fizzy water and lime, rock and roll!!

mouldycheesefan · 05/04/2017 18:45

See your gp, 💐you are an alcoholic.

anyoldname76 · 05/04/2017 18:45

but everyone isnt happy, your dh for a start. you really need to make a change

DonkeyOaty · 05/04/2017 18:45

Evening classes in conversational French?
Online learning?
Bake the perfect profiterole. This will take many evenings.

ExplodedCloud · 05/04/2017 18:46

It can be a bit more than 9. You need to find some other way to wind down.
Anyway your DH is right. You'll pickle your liver

DonkeyOaty · 05/04/2017 18:46

No one is happy though, are they?

Sad
frieda909 · 05/04/2017 18:47

I get grumpy and snappy if I try to go without so I don't even bother trying any more

I think this is far more important than how much you actually drink. If you can't cope without it, then that's a real problem.

I just drink the wine and it keeps everyone happy

But your husband is not happy. He wants you to stop.

I'm sorry but I really think you should seek help with this Flowers

muttrat · 05/04/2017 18:47

So that's 63 units. I think the recommended amount is 14?

Do people just not give a fuck about health guidelines??

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 05/04/2017 18:47

Start drinking a low alcohol wine. Then try a day without. Then two days. Etc.

But you'll only cut down if it's you that wants to.

user1491413344 · 05/04/2017 18:47

What can the GP do?

OP posts:
arbrighton · 05/04/2017 18:47

Recommended for women is 2 units max per day. Around 10 in a bottle of wine.

So................

arbrighton · 05/04/2017 18:48

And if you're grumpy/ snappy without then YES it is a problem
