Do I drink too much?

user1491413344 · 05/04/2017 18:35

I drink a bottle of wine every night. DH says this is too much and thinks I should stop.

Is it too much? Thought it was okay.

The gp can do bugger all except tell you to cut down.

You need to give up completely really. If your dh can't handle you getting grumpy whole you try and give up then he's a dick.

user1491413344 · 05/04/2017 18:49

dh can handle me feeling grumpy but I can't handle it.

I think your DH would prefer you to be short term grumpy and long term happy.

olderthanyouthink · 05/04/2017 18:50

And long term healthy

And so would you

muttrat · 05/04/2017 18:51

OK well it's over to you OP.

Sorry I can't waste anymore time on a functioning alcoholic.

pencilpotmonitor · 05/04/2017 18:51

When was the last time you didn't drink in the evening OP?

Trifleorbust · 05/04/2017 18:51

I think you know the answer to this one Flowers

KlondikeBar · 05/04/2017 18:51

Do you consider yourself an alcoholic? If not, why not?

Flowerydems · 05/04/2017 18:51

I'm in a similar position so I feel for you. It doesn't make you an alcoholic as previous posters have said but it isn't healthy.

It's very easily done to slide into a bottle a night habit though. I now try to have a couple of af nights a week and have tried not to have wine in the house. Good luck

ExplodedCloud · 05/04/2017 18:51

Swap every other glass for water. Start later. Drink herbal tea. Drink slower. Try different things until you figure out how to get it under control.

Janey50 · 05/04/2017 18:53

Depending on the volume of alcohol in it (most wines are between 9 and 14%) its roughly equivalent to between 7.5 and 10 units per bottle. So even at the lowest strength that is over 52 units of alcohol per week. The safe level for women is 14 units per week. So you are drinking nearly 4 times the safe level.

user1491413344 · 05/04/2017 18:54

Oh you're scaring me now.

witchofzog · 05/04/2017 18:55

As another poster advised, cut down. Try what she suggested or try cutting out one night a week for 3 weeks, then 2 nights a week etc until you are down to maybe 2-3 times a week. Once your tolerance levels are reduced cut to low alcoholic wine. It's ok to drink but your body NEEDS a break from it. Every night is not healthy

user1491413344 · 05/04/2017 18:56

I thought a bottle a nioght was about average.

Does nobody else on hrere drink every night?

OP posts:
UppityHumpty · 05/04/2017 18:57

If you're doing it to relax and can't relax in any other way then it's become an addiction & you should give it up

I drink a glass or 2 a week I'm afraid

MrsKoala · 05/04/2017 18:59

I could easily drink that per night and I used to, more some nights - pre dc. I wouldn't even be drunk.

Dh was never bothered as I was never 'drunk'. It didn't really have any adverse affect on my life.

I have no doubt it was terrible for my body tho. It is a lot.

IAmTheWorwax · 05/04/2017 18:59

Hmm are you just purposefully trying to wind people up? Or was I right with my first post?

user1491413344 · 05/04/2017 19:00

Sorry I am trying here.

So how do you cope with being moody and upset when you're trying to cut down?

OP posts:
ExplodedCloud · 05/04/2017 19:01

I'm sure people do. I have had patches where it becomes a habit to have 2 or 3 glasses every night but then I give myself a kick and go back to water and keep wine for the weekend.

user1491413344 · 05/04/2017 19:01

Is my liver going to be totally fucked now?

OP posts:
Flowerydems · 05/04/2017 19:02

You just need to suck it up and deal with it op, that's the only way. It's a reliance on a crutch that's all it is
