Job interview at a holiday/hotel/B&B place (trying not to identify myself)

Owner is showing me around and explaining how to clean the rooms, systems etc

Gets to the bedding and says "if the occupant has only stayed one night we don't change the bedding, just smooth it out and iron". I.e. The next guest gets the same fucking bedding Envy

That's grim right? And they have FIVE STARS

OP posts:
Darkstarrheart · 04/04/2017 18:01

I stayed in one hotel where someone had thrown up in the bin (flip lid ) and it had been left there . When I told the manager the next morning he offered me a free night there - as if !!

Strawclutching · 04/04/2017 18:04

Beds are ALWAYS changed!! We often have guests saying 'at least you don't need to change the bedding as we've only stayed one night' Hmm

leighb23 · 04/04/2017 18:09

I wonder if OP went to butlins.... asking because she said it was ... err can't remember now, sounded like she was alluding to it being chalet type accommodation?

Loobylu44 · 04/04/2017 18:20

I can never unknow this now 🙁

Hygellig · 04/04/2017 18:23

I wish I hadn't read this now! Suddenly camping actually looks appealing.

musketeers123 · 04/04/2017 18:33

That is gross!!!! I work for a Residential Activity Centre and every time a guest leaves their entire bed is stripped. The whole room is blitzed- even for one night. If they are staying over 2 days, we even clean mid-week. Shocking a 5 Star !!! Did you get the job by the way ? If not 'name & shame' surely !!!??? 😲😲😲

Looneytune253 · 04/04/2017 18:33

I'm pretty sure it was just meant as in if the same person is staying 2 nights. Not randoms staying the second night. That's not weird.

musketeers123 · 04/04/2017 18:37

I read it that they DO NOT CHANGE the bedding if the previous guest had only stayed 1 night & just smoothed it down a NEW guest??? We also have different coloured cloths / sprays for different areas - toilet/ wash basin / mirrors / cloth to polish.

Viviennemary · 04/04/2017 18:39

I expect that it does go on if cleaners are in a rush. But I wouldn't think it would be sanctioned by the owners or managers. Put a review on Trip Advisor and report them to whoever gave them 5 stars.

Sparklyhousedust · 04/04/2017 18:41

That's rank. Might have to delay dinner so I have time to get over it...

deadpool99 · 04/04/2017 18:52

OP, did you go in and shadow a member of staff today?

TheWhiteRoseOfYork · 04/04/2017 19:02

"if the occupant has only stayed one night we don't change the bedding, just smooth it out and iron".

Did she mean if the guest has only stayed one night out of the three they have booked? Ie No new sheets every day of their stay, but once they leave the sheets are changed.

SemiNormal · 04/04/2017 19:04

Other lovely things staff were caught doing included using the previous guests dirty towels to clean the bathroom and dry the cups and saucers with. - Standard practice where I was a chambermaid. Also using the same rag in each room for the toilets, sinks and baths/showers - these were also the same rags used to clean the cups and saucers.

Sheets were changed after every guest (and during a guests stay if more than one night) bu duvet covers were only changed once in a blue moon or when they looked visibly dirty.

SemiNormal · 04/04/2017 19:07

Oh and just to add we also had people pissing in cups/kettles - can only assume people have gone back pissed, one has occupied the bathroom so the other, in desperation has used a cup/kettle (only explanation I can think of). Also had a guest shit in the sink once, that was delightful. Other guests have shit up the walls somehow!

TIP - use the luggage rack, if a place has bedbugs you're less likely to take them home with you on your luggage.

IamNotDarling · 04/04/2017 19:08

I stayed in a pub B&B in St Ives once that I'm pretty sure hadn't changed the sheets. I pulled back the bedspread and found pubes!!!

It took 4 hours after check in for them to get fresh sheets and duvet case.

We got scabies AND was bitten by bed bugs.

Cantthinkofabloodyusername · 04/04/2017 19:10

I have a B&B and we ALWAYS change the sheets between guests no matter how long they have stayed!!!!!! That is thoroughly gross! I also use clean towels to polish the bathroom and my cups go through the dishwasher daily!! Go me!

kkrpainmum · 04/04/2017 19:12

I have spent 15 years in the hotel industry working in different 5 star hotels in different countries around the world including here, and in no hotel I have EVER worked in have they done that, massive massive industry no-no!! Absolutely DISGUSTING!!!

Giddyaunt18 · 04/04/2017 19:17

GRIM. You need to out them.

Giddyaunt18 · 04/04/2017 19:18

Are you sure this wasn't to test you as part of the interview???

podrig · 04/04/2017 19:19

OP why will you not name and shame?

NannyJones · 04/04/2017 19:23

Is it center Parcs..?! Self contained thingys...?!? They also have a "hotel" and supposedly good star rating..?
Need to know how tha shadowing went!! 👌🏻

maddiemookins16mum · 04/04/2017 19:41

Some hotels do cut corners (I repped in some in Greece in the 80's) and the top sheet would become the bottom sheet but turned the other end up) at the end of the first week.
This was the same hotel that had 6 young male guests who on their last night smeared their own poo over every wall in the room.
Thankfully it was discovered before their (delayed by 6 hours) flight took off). They were 10,000 drachma worse off before they left Kos that night.

applesareredandgreen · 04/04/2017 20:05

To those who gave suggested this is at centre parks /butlins - unlikely as they don't take one night bookings

Theaspidistraiswilting · 04/04/2017 20:05

I worked somewhere that did this - although only if the guest had been a 'girl and looked clean'!!

This was the Highlands in the 90's and hot and cold running water at this establishment were a luxury extra so even those that looked clean probably really weren't that clean...

Havalina · 04/04/2017 20:16

Why is it gross? I woukdnt give a crap unless visibly jizz/skid stained. Its just a bed
