Job interview at a holiday/hotel/B&B place (trying not to identify myself)

Owner is showing me around and explaining how to clean the rooms, systems etc

Gets to the bedding and says "if the occupant has only stayed one night we don't change the bedding, just smooth it out and iron". I.e. The next guest gets the same fucking bedding Envy

That's grim right? And they have FIVE STARS

Whilst at uni I worked at a B&B that requested we did this. I didn't last long as they felt I couldn't follow orders - because I stripped the beds every changeover. I've always been a little anxious about staying anywhere ever since.

Poo in the kettle

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 05/04/2017 20:59

This thread is still going strong! So many dirty mingers out there Grin

For once I feel lucky to be so skint that staying in a hotel won't happen any time soon Grin

Scarlettablue · 05/04/2017 21:05

I once stayed in a really rank b&b where the (nylon) sheets reeked of the previous guest's stinky feet. When I complained they said they wouldn't charge me as long as I didn't tell anyone!

Ankleswingers · 05/04/2017 21:07

Oh that's just vile.

Jaxhog · 06/04/2017 22:31

I once stayed in a hotel in Canada, where we found a pube on the bottom sheet. The staff were so scary, we swapped the top sheet for the bottom and dumped the offending sheet. It wad the sort of hotel with dogs tied to door handles in the corridor. No other hotels in the area, or we would have decamped. Still sounds pretty yucky, when I think back.

MrsT1984 · 06/04/2017 22:51

And I thought it was bad discovering a 4 pack of ritz dairylea dunkers under the sofa of our apartment at Butlins at the weekend, seems I live a (thankfully) sheltered life!

stoopido · 07/04/2017 21:41

I always strip my bed when I leave a hotel just incase the sheets don't get changed. I also mess any food up that I don't eat when in a restaurant just incase they plonk the food on another customer's plate!

BionicMercenary · 07/04/2017 21:52

Used to work for a housekeeping company that cleaned private holiday lets, the boss very often used to put dirty sheets from one property into another when there wasnt enough provided and would always tell us to just straighten the sheets if they looked clean... i got fired for always changing sheets on all beds used or not...

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

I had my trial this morning.

Bed has bottom flat sheet, top flat sheet, quilt/duvet, throw.

Flat sheets (top and bottom) changed after every person. Duvet cover changed if the person stayed for more than one night.

So A comes and stays one night, B gets the
Same duvet cover. But it's then changed when B leaves.

Top sheet seperates person and duvet to a degree I suppose? Hmm

Thanks for the update - slightly better situation, but I'd have thought a 5* hotel wouldn't cut corners like this. I guess it's no different (in the absence of a top sheet) from a duvet cover being the only thing separating you from the duvet multiple people have used before.

OtherBarry · 11/04/2017 18:04

Might have to start taking a travel kettle and my own mug with me in future, the poo in the kettle is too much Grin

OtherBarry · 11/04/2017 18:23

The last time I stayed at centre parks there was dried spaghetti stuck to the sheets Confused

Birdsbeesandtrees · 11/04/2017 18:24

I've stayed in some grotty hotels while backpacking.

One had blood on the sheets. At this point I'd not had a wash for 3 days so didn't care all that much and just slept on top of the blanket.

LionSock · 13/04/2017 13:22

At the hotel I work at, the sheets are changed after every guest and every other day if the guest is staying longer than 2 nights. BUT bathrooms are cleaned using the previous guests dirty towels. One towel per bathroom. Mirrors, Sink, shower/Bath, toilet then floor. Cups are cleaned in the bathroom sink with sponge and fairy liquid and dried with a tea towel.

Honestly, never use the cups in the room. The things I've seen them used for by guests! Don't walk barefoot in the rooms either. Seriously I don't understand how people can do this. Guests are DISGUSTING.

The amount of people that cut their toenails all over the carpet. Why would you cut your nails on holiday?

Cary2012 · 13/04/2017 13:29

I stayed in a B&B in York and there was an empty Durek wrapper under the pillow Shock!

Cary2012 · 13/04/2017 13:30

Durex !

Floggingmolly · 13/04/2017 13:33

You were lucky it was only the wrapper!

Cary2012 · 13/04/2017 13:46

I know!!

darnitboo · 13/04/2017 13:53

I used to work cleaning lovely holiday boats when I was about 14 and I NEVER changed the bedding, just made the bed. I would never ever ever be able to do this now and still feel SO GUILTY about it but at 14 I really didn't give a shit about anything!

Totallybonkersmum · 17/04/2017 03:27

Crikey! I've always had a suspicion about this in some hotels from the smell of the bed and pillow.
Next time I'll be inspecting the bed sheets very closely and other things like the cups. After all, that's minging to say the least.
I know in America they have a very serious issue with bed bugs and have to regularly get the rooms sprayed; the bed, the mattress, the carpet, in, under and behind furniture. Hence why many have a thick plastic bed panel across the bottom so that you don't transfer bed bugs to another hotel, or worse still, your bed at home. It happens. Hence why they recommend unpacking your suitcase on the rack that's usually provided.
I myself tend to really scrunch up my bedding because of exactly that. I also don't wash my perfume off. So if you guys smell perfume I've been there!
I bet they recycle towels too, so I tend to make a sodden mess of those too, just for good measure!

AlcoholAndIrony · 17/04/2017 04:22

I actually thought it was against health and safety to do that.

neitherthisnorthat · 17/04/2017 06:33

Fortheloveofdog: Pls share some of the minging stuff you've seen people leave?

This thread has been great. I've laughed, -I've cried- I've learned never to use the glasses/ cups in hotels (I always thought it was the remote control you had to look out for cos it never even gets wiped and god knows where people have had their hands before changing channels). I've also learned to check my tea doesn't smell/taste of knickers.
