Three pairs of pants is NOT enough... is it??

Noticed there were hardly ever pairs of DP's pants in the wash basket, so I bought him a pack that looked comfy and were reasonably priced, and put them in his underwear drawer.

When I mentioned I'd done this he said, "Oh, you didn't need to do that - I already have three pairs."

I press him on this and he says that, 'as [he's] not a woman', he doesn't need to change his pants every day and three pairs is plenty.

As in he literally own three pairs. In total.

He's been wearing them in rotation and if I'd have to estimate I'd say that unless I forcibly liberate them from his Floor Closet (that's a rant for another day) they aren't getting washed more than once every two weeks.

Am I being precious or is this just... eughh???!!

Erica "Mothers, teach your sons to use hampers. Their spouses will thank you later"

or their fathers could teach them.

Guitar - I always get alarmed when people tell me they have low standards....never quite sure what that means....!

pollymere · 23/03/2017 18:45

I think behaviour was common in my Dads generation but is rare in mine. We have the ability to wear clean underwear everyday without having to greatly worry about washday. If your DP is 50+ then it's probably too late to change his attitude. Anything less, he needs to change them!

lazymum99 · 23/03/2017 18:54

As a start maybe he could shower in his pants!

If people wear pyjamas how often do they get changed? I bet that catches a few out.

ohidoliketobebesidethecoast · 23/03/2017 19:04

My ex wore pants and socks for days on end, and could not be persuaded to change them more....he's someone else's faintly unpleasant smell now :-D!

marhav999 · 23/03/2017 19:17

Throw them up at the ceiling. If they don't stick you can wear them another day.
Seriously. Change every day. Men, women, girls, boys.

ForalltheSaints · 23/03/2017 19:19

I am a man.

Three pairs is not enough. I hope he works somewhere either out of doors or a long way from other people.

ohidoliketobebesidethecoast · 23/03/2017 19:31

Yeah, perhaps get a shed and keep him in there ;-)

doryella · 23/03/2017 19:32

My dh changes affter his daily shower... and has about 15-20 pairs as i would have to say something if he ever worn same pair for more then aday...

garmsfresh · 23/03/2017 19:37

That is gopping 😂 but really funny .. is it wash one wear one dry one then ?

katseyes7 · 23/03/2017 19:44

Do you have to beat them with a stick to get them into the washing machine?

Jux · 23/03/2017 19:49

I thought one pair was meant to last 4 days.

Day 1: clean pants
Day 2: wear them back to front
Day 3: inside out
Day 4: inside out and back to front.

If he's doing this, then he will need 4 pairs for 2 weeks. He's probably going commando the other 2 days, then.

deedeegee · 23/03/2017 19:53

yuck!

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 23/03/2017 19:53

Poor OP, that's nasty.

Shock I suspect that the dried wee/sweat/'etc' is what's holding those pants together...

WobblyLondoner · 23/03/2017 20:08

My husband says his dad wore one pair for 3 day - right way round one day, then back to front - and then inside out. Euuugh! I really don't think he was joking either.

Clean pair ever day, no other option.

OneSecondAfter · 23/03/2017 20:12

That is seriously disgusting. I'm a man, I change mine daily, and if any of my male friends ever said they didn't, they'd never live it down.

MCamp10 · 23/03/2017 20:14

I won't even ask about his socks!

Unihorn · 23/03/2017 20:16

I have the opposite problem, my husband has about 30 pairs!

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 23/03/2017 20:22

I feel sick Confused

NewPuppyMum · 23/03/2017 20:25

Endmoo - he asked for more pants, why couldn't he just go and buy them himself?

AteRiri · 23/03/2017 20:37

Sorry just to clarify --

by pants we mean trousers right?

Not underwear (boxers/briefs)?

paxillin · 23/03/2017 20:38

Pants mean underwear for OP I think. Trousers would be fine.

Gottagetmoving · 23/03/2017 20:41

They should be changed every day.
My DS has been known to change his twice a day if he is going out in the evening.
My mum told me that it was normal for people to wear the same underwear for days when she was a child and many men didn't wear underwear at all and only had a bath once a week.

CarefullyAirbrushedPotato · 23/03/2017 20:48

Because he's not a woman?
Oh dearie me, that's dire. How totally grotty!

OCSockOrphanage · 23/03/2017 20:52

There is a balance to be found here; DS17 is changing his underwear 3x daily, which strikes me (who washes them) as excessive.
