Three pairs of pants is NOT enough... is it??

Adunni · 22/03/2017 13:00

Noticed there were hardly ever pairs of DP's pants in the wash basket, so I bought him a pack that looked comfy and were reasonably priced, and put them in his underwear drawer.

When I mentioned I'd done this he said, "Oh, you didn't need to do that - I already have three pairs."

I press him on this and he says that, 'as [he's] not a woman', he doesn't need to change his pants every day and three pairs is plenty.

As in he literally own three pairs. In total.

He's been wearing them in rotation and if I'd have to estimate I'd say that unless I forcibly liberate them from his Floor Closet (that's a rant for another day) they aren't getting washed more than once every two weeks.

Am I being precious or is this just... eughh???!!

Do you change your duds every day Draylon or are you doing your bit for the planet?

I could not being myself to touch a penis that has spent the day in dirty cacks.

MeadowHay · 22/03/2017 23:05

I liked Phil's post, reminded me a bit of my DH who also ends up with holey boxers sometimes that he gets too attached to and doesn't want to bin until I take him shopping for some new ones and pry the old ones out of his hand Grin.

OP that is rank and I would be having a calm but firm conversation with him about how that is really not acceptable and for hygiene reasons he needs to change them daily. And I would certainly not be having any kind of sexual activity with his intimate areas without that Shock. Bleurgh.

LauderSyme · 22/03/2017 23:06

Precious? Not even close. 3 is not remotely sufficient. You need at least 14 assuming a pair a day laundered fortnightly.

Witness here the collective outpouring of disgust. Your dp needs to read this and know he is judged.

Solo · 22/03/2017 23:17

I think more men do this than would admit to it. My Ds was brought up changing into clean pants daily and had at least a dozen pairs; does he do the same now that he's an adult and not living at home? Who knows?
Dd is 10 and changes daily. I always make sure she has a minimum of 14 pairs with every post growth spurt restock. I like to know she has enough. Like me.

arrrrghhwinehelpswithteens · 22/03/2017 23:25

yeuch!!!!

Every single day. Religiously. And his socks. They may not always reach the basket but they are always changed!

BananaThePoet · 23/03/2017 00:13

The only way that regime with 3 pants would work would be if you lived in an incredibly hot sunny place and he rotated his pants by putting the worn ones on the line in the sunshine for two days while he wore the other one pair. Then the fresh air and sunshine would dry clean the pants on the line because strong sunlight is a natural bleach and kills germs and two days would just about do it.

VestalVirgin · 23/03/2017 00:28

Quick question due to use if the word 'closet', can we be clear you are discussing underpants? If you are American then you could possibly mean trousers to the British reader.

I thought she was talking of trousers, too. Thought, well, three pairs aren't a lot, but if you wash regularly, it should suffice.

But I fear she really means underpants. Shock

I actually thought I was pretty relaxed about such things, but ... who the hell puts on dirty underpants after a shower!

Shock

Until now, I had thought even men who didn't change their underpants daily would at least know to pretend that they do. That someone would openly admit to this ... it baffles the mind.

AdoraBell · 23/03/2017 00:35

Yuk.

My DH jokes about rotating for 3 days before turning them inside out to get another day, or 3, out of them.

He does, however, own about 30 pairs and never uses one pair for more than 1 day.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 23/03/2017 00:35

That's disgusting. Even worse if he turns them inside out between wears. I don't understand how anyone can feel clean or comfortable in underwear they've already had on for an entire day. Bras and outer clothes ok, 2 days or so is fine, but not underwear.
Sweat, bacteria from going to the loo (i don't mean skids/wet patches just the germs left behind after wiping) and for women discharge too, it's just grim. At least a lot of women wear liners, but men don't, i seriously hope he always wears other clothing and pj's over them, just sweaty grubby germy multiple days old pants in bed turns my stomach.

naturalbaby · 23/03/2017 09:26

Sniff test. I make my boys sniff clothes on their floor - particularly the crotch area. No need to ask twice. I can't believe how stinky the crotch area gets - pants, trousers, pyjamas .... what a lucky lady I am to wash these items every week. Hmm

PhilTheSahd · 23/03/2017 10:13

chickenandbeanz just buy him some new boxers, and throw out the old tatty ones for him then (assuming you've already tried telling him about the tears, and he is oblivious to what you mean or too lazy and theres no reason why he would get upset about the old ones being thrown away).

1horatio · 23/03/2017 11:58

Oh my. I saw this thread but for some reason didn't have time to click on it.

That's awful....

I'm starting to suspect men may be weird about underwear? (or maybe I'm the weird one here. Mine is a bit... Well, they get washed and then chucked in the drawer, which has different "boxes", so I know where to find which one.)

DH's get ironed, folded and put in perfectly neat rows (socks as well). And they're colour coordinated (there are only two colours....)

literalist · 23/03/2017 14:03

Wait. @grannytomine do you really think Reacher is recycling? Is it possible that Child just reckons fresh/new/clean is just a given?

Childhood illusions are shattering by the shelf load with this thread...

grannytomine · 23/03/2017 14:36

literalist, no he doesn't recycle, every week or so he buys a whole new outfit, well not shoes or coat but shirt trousers underpants socks. He does say when he buys a new outfit, I don't think he does a secret trip to the underwear shop halfway through the week but I suppose he might but it would be easier to just buy an extra pair while he's there. I think I am too invested in Jack Reacher's underwear, good job I'm reading Stuart McBride at the moment, no mention of underwear at all.

BastardBloodAndSand · 23/03/2017 14:47

My ds only has 3 pairs !! He has special, wicking ones that are seamless and stop him from getting sweaty. (( he has Autism )) At £30 a pair it's all I can afford !! .........I do wash them midweek tho Wink

CurlieSue · 23/03/2017 16:38

My ex was like this. He used to wear the same skiddy pants 5 days in a row and it would drive me insane. I could never understand how he could have a shower then put on a pair of stinky, shitty pants. I think he had a genuine phobia about wearing clean pants.

NKFell · 23/03/2017 16:56

Natural I just thought the same!

SNIFF TEST.

If he really doesn't think it's gross because 'he's a man' then get him sniff the crotch.

Grim!

LakieLady · 23/03/2017 17:17

DP wears clean pants, socks and shirt/t-shirt daily, except for the time he wore the same pair of pants for 3 days.

We had an early departure when camping, so no time for a shower, and he just stuck on the previous day's pair, intending to shower and change when we'd got home. We were stuck for hours on end on the M40 because of an accident and didn't get home till really late, so just collapsed into bed when we got home.

The next day he put his dirty clothes on again, to unload the car and crawl round in the loft putting stuff away. When he finished, he had a shower. When he came out, the dog was rolling on his dirty pants like a demented thing.

Even DP knows that dogs only roll on things that are stinky!

Mustang27 · 23/03/2017 17:25

That is bloody disgusting!!!

thumpingrug · 23/03/2017 17:27

As a chap, can i just say that i find that very very unacceptable.

luckycat2 · 23/03/2017 17:28

eww, three pairs is not enough!

Sparklyglitter · 23/03/2017 17:29

That is soooooooo disgusting! Shock
