Three pairs of pants is NOT enough... is it??

Adunni · 22/03/2017 13:00

Noticed there were hardly ever pairs of DP's pants in the wash basket, so I bought him a pack that looked comfy and were reasonably priced, and put them in his underwear drawer.

When I mentioned I'd done this he said, "Oh, you didn't need to do that - I already have three pairs."

I press him on this and he says that, 'as [he's] not a woman', he doesn't need to change his pants every day and three pairs is plenty.

As in he literally own three pairs. In total.

He's been wearing them in rotation and if I'd have to estimate I'd say that unless I forcibly liberate them from his Floor Closet (that's a rant for another day) they aren't getting washed more than once every two weeks.

Am I being precious or is this just... eughh???!!

That sounds grim. Is he willing to embrace change and wear clean underwear now that it's been discussed? Hmm

My DH has the opposite problem - too many pairs!

I feel your pain with the floor closet (or floordrobe, as I call it). DH often prefers the floor to the wash basket. I only wash things that are in the basket and then he's left to wonder why he's running low on socks! Grin

Justaboy · 25/03/2017 16:17

Change 'em every day as gran said you never know when you might be run over and it would be not the done thing to have some poor nurse having to remove them if they stunk;! Yep that's what she said! Plus shower once or twice a day and change socks too.

But does anyone, anyone at all, know why socks are so very fond of splitting up when they should be a pair !

Anyone?..

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/03/2017 16:28

Well he either doesn't wash every day, and even if he does he obviously puts skanky sweaty pants back on.
Rank! Vom!

littlemummyfoofoo · 25/03/2017 16:36

I know you don't want to but the floor closet. a good friend said to me she split the bedroom in half. clarified each had to do their own washing until he learned to put things in the hamper - straight away. .. not after she had completed all the washing. ....or in one lump every 3 weeks... she made sure her side was the side nearest the door. .. after several months of him trying to do his hobbies ... not having clean clothes and being told by friends he looked awful he did start to take pride in washing his own clothes, keeping his room clean... she never took back this job. he'd never asked her to do it...like many of us.. she'd ended up doing it. note:if she found his stuff in the machine she had only to put it in his basket and put it back over to his side of the bed. no hanging it out! she told me. so I did the same. my fellow was soooooo confused. I explained he was an adult he can do his own washing. I'd asked often enough for him to simply put his washing back in the hamper after use. so he'd list his free washer woman. he also took a bit of time but eventually did change... now I'm a SAHM. .. so I do the washing again... it's been surprisingly quickly that he's stacked off! On strike at the moment. ..not doing his washing till he shows respect. .

This highlights the difference between the sexes. I must have quadrupled DH's underwear provision pretty much as as soon as I took stock of his scant reserves. And it's down to me to keep the fresh pairs stocked up and to take the oldies away.

Curiously he is most interested in socks, as there seems to be a techie aspect to buying them for sports and different seasons/climates etc But still down to me to whisk them away when past their best!

Rednailsandnaeknickers · 25/03/2017 18:51

as [he's] not a woman', he doesn't need to change his pants every day and three pairs is plenty."

What (possibly sexist) bullshit is this? Does he not fart 💨? No hint of a skiddy or poo particle ever left his perfect crack? Does his dick drip liquid rose perfume rather than piss? Has he a pure perfect knob always and forever cheese-free? Has no drop of sweat ever dared to collect around his manly bawbag?

Disgusting. 🤢😷

This highlights the difference between the sexes

To me personally seems as if it mainly shows the difference between some people...

user1476961324 · 25/03/2017 19:31

What I am most impressed by here, is that you have only just noticed!

Did you just think they all looked very similar?!

1horatio · 25/03/2017 19:35

user
why not? DH's are either white or black, all the same model. (and then some I bought him).
If DH didn't have a whole drawer full of neatly folded pants? I probably wouldn't know either... ;)

PhilTheSahd · 26/03/2017 11:24

Some more interesting comments on here lol.

Just to clarify a few things:
I've never known my willy to "leak" - if they have spots of wee on their boxers either they aren't shaking/wiping the droplets off after they finish weeing properly (wiping with loo roll if in normal bathroom, shake if urinal), or if its randomly occuring then something is wrong with their willy/bladder IMO (I'm in my mid 20s so I wouldn't know, but maybe it has to do with getting older and less able to control bladder???)

Changing boxers after exercise is more comfy, wether I do that depends on how sweaty I got during exercise (I probably don't do anywhere near enough exercise, so it's a rare thing for me to need to wear a second pair).
Different boxers at night works - some guys basically replace pj bottoms with a pair of boxers because they find it comfier, personally I only do that if I'm staying with people and I've forgotten to pack pjs. These days with young DD I wear pjs at night, but before when at home I'd wear pjs in winter and nothing at all most of the year.

kwick · 26/03/2017 13:52

My 11 year old nephew has assured me he puts on a clean pair EVERY day except when camping Grin

PandaPolar · 26/03/2017 14:06

You've made it onto the Daily Mail...

NotCitrus · 26/03/2017 15:37

MrNC may have annoying habits like refusing to leave the house until he's had min 90 minutes for bathing and grooming, but at least he's clean!

He's also the rare man who actually asks for pants and socks for presents. His luxury sock habit gets quite expensive!

SJD25 · 26/03/2017 21:43

That's grim AF! My chap spends a bloody fortune on boxer shorts, he will only have name branded ones (I.e Calvin Klein) and now, my chap is trampy most of the time, but he always puts clean pants on every morning (without showering 90% of mornings) I can't even begin to think of the state those pants must be in Blush

PollyPerky · 26/03/2017 22:08

You know this thread has now been pinched by the Mail :)

HelsinkiLights · 27/03/2017 00:02

What this thread has been pinched by the Lazy Mail? Shock

PollyPerky · 27/03/2017 08:36

'fraid so- found it last night online. All the user names are there are several posters.

Fluffy40 · 27/03/2017 09:40

He needs ten pairs, at least

kwick · 27/03/2017 21:01

Please share link for Mail robbery!!!

HelsinkiLights · 27/03/2017 23:14

Bloody mail are they allowed to pinch peoples posts. Copyright? Or does it belong to the Mumsnet site?

kwick · 28/03/2017 07:15

We are news worthy!!! And @Adunni your DH is (in)famous!!!!

floraeasy · 29/03/2017 09:09

Yes, the Mail can pinch from here so be careful not to be recognised and outed.

Adunni · 29/03/2017 20:53

The thought of this thread bringing in even a fraction of a penny of advertising revenue for that rag has got me genuinely scowling Angry

Wow what a non-story that dm article is - I can save people the trouble of reading it by this summary:

Someone posted on MN that her husband has only three pairs of pants. Other people posted to say it was a bit gross.

Literally nothing added at all, no interesting insight (I'm not sure what there could be though) whatsoever. Slow news day??
