Three pairs of pants is NOT enough... is it??

Noticed there were hardly ever pairs of DP's pants in the wash basket, so I bought him a pack that looked comfy and were reasonably priced, and put them in his underwear drawer.

When I mentioned I'd done this he said, "Oh, you didn't need to do that - I already have three pairs."

I press him on this and he says that, 'as [he's] not a woman', he doesn't need to change his pants every day and three pairs is plenty.

As in he literally own three pairs. In total.

He's been wearing them in rotation and if I'd have to estimate I'd say that unless I forcibly liberate them from his Floor Closet (that's a rant for another day) they aren't getting washed more than once every two weeks.

Am I being precious or is this just... eughh???!!

I could not have sex with this man.

DearMrDilkington · 22/03/2017 13:20

That's gross. Men get sweaty ballsacks, woman do not. His argument on the matter isn't even a good one. Envy - not envy, trust me!!

amboinsainbos · 22/03/2017 13:21

I read something recently about a link between penile cancers and frequency of changing underwear. Even if there are no skid marks in his boxers, the heat and location will harbour bacteria.

Pencilvester · 22/03/2017 13:22

I would be sending him to sleep in the spare room!

Miserylovescompany2 · 22/03/2017 13:22

I'm surprised them there pants aren't walking to the washer themselves...

Pencilvester · 22/03/2017 13:23

Seriously - he thinks it's OK to wear the same pair of pants for 4-5 days? I genuinely would not be able to share a bed with such a person.

Universitychallenging · 22/03/2017 13:24

Is he my ex? He did this. And turned socks inside out to get a second day out of them.

We did have a washing machine. He just couldn't understand that I found it disgusting.

Goldenhandshake · 22/03/2017 13:24

Grim. Think of all the bollock sweat.

DearMrDilkington · 22/03/2017 13:24

Like a pp said, imagine what other basic hygiene skills his lacking.

Does he use soap or just stand under the shower for 5 minutes before putting the dirty sweaty pants back on?

DearMrDilkington · 22/03/2017 13:25

I'm surprised them there pants aren't walking to the washer themselves... GrinGrin

Honeybee79 · 22/03/2017 13:25
Shock Shock That is horrifying! You've only just realised?!
RedBugMug · 22/03/2017 13:25

what!?! Shock

is he 10?

dowhatnow · 22/03/2017 13:26

How have you only just noticed this?

pocketsaviour · 22/03/2017 13:27

Surely the test on whether he's washing them often enough is their state when they they do make it to the washing machine.

It sounds like you do most of the laundry, so if you hadn't noticed up until now that they were dirtier than you'd expect, then it doesn't sound like he's wearing them for longer than would be hygienic.

Unless you're about to dripfeed and tell us that you pick them up with tongs while wearing a Hazmat suit Grin

pointstaken · 22/03/2017 13:27

It's disgusting. I could not live with him.

My boys don't even wear the same underwear day and nights.

sirfredfredgeorge · 22/03/2017 13:28

Whilst I do think it's yuck and own dozens of pairs of pants so as to avoid ever running out - If it was that yuck, surely you'd've noticed your partners rankness before wouldn't you?

So maybe it's not quite as rank as we're all thinking?

Justanothergame · 22/03/2017 13:29

How could he put dirty pants on after having a shower? (They must really smell) Please tell me he has a shower/bath every day.

Sorry OP this would be a deal breaker for me. Just gross.

FurryLittleTwerp · 22/03/2017 13:29

Yuck - that's grim.

MycatsaPirate · 22/03/2017 13:30

Knob cheese.

I am appalled.

SnicketyLemon · 22/03/2017 13:32

Does he wash and put dirty pants back on? Or only wash 3 times in 2 weeks? Surely it must cause a bit of a pong 'down there'

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 22/03/2017 13:32

At first I was gonna say its no big deal, my dh had about 8 pairs but only actually wears three. They're roomier and he says more comfortable. The big difference is that they are washed after every wear, he showers and puts fresh on each day. I do one load of washing a day so his fave three are always available so its not a problem. When we go on holiday he will begrudgingly take the others or buy more of the others if he can find them.

pombal · 22/03/2017 13:33

PMSL at this thread, my DH is pretty minging but 3 pairs of pants total - OMG ShockShock

What other charming habits does he have OP? We need to know Smile

Adunni · 22/03/2017 13:36

Thank you, I thought I was going mad. Finding this out felt like a dramatic plot twist - I was having dramatic flashbacks over a James Newton-Howard soundtrack!!

Ugh!

Re: showering - he makes a point of showering every morning, even if it makes him late for work... this is part of why I was so totally baffled. What's the chuffing point if you're just going to put on dirty pants afterwards?

I am definitely going to be sticking every pair of pants I see straight in the wash from now on. After I've picked them up from a distance with a pair of tongs.

[Traumatised muttering]

Gross. Does he shower daily? & put dirty pants on after? Gross & totally unnecessary.

opticaltrixie · 22/03/2017 13:37

Do not let him anywhere near you until the situation is rectified.

Dirty beggar.
