Three pairs of pants is NOT enough... is it??

Adunni · 22/03/2017 13:00

Noticed there were hardly ever pairs of DP's pants in the wash basket, so I bought him a pack that looked comfy and were reasonably priced, and put them in his underwear drawer.

When I mentioned I'd done this he said, "Oh, you didn't need to do that - I already have three pairs."

I press him on this and he says that, 'as [he's] not a woman', he doesn't need to change his pants every day and three pairs is plenty.

As in he literally own three pairs. In total.

He's been wearing them in rotation and if I'd have to estimate I'd say that unless I forcibly liberate them from his Floor Closet (that's a rant for another day) they aren't getting washed more than once every two weeks.

Am I being precious or is this just... eughh???!!

Presumably nobody told him when he was growing up that every time you put a pair of pants on they are a new clean pair? What are his parents like, are they minging too!?

Mycatsapirate knob cheese indeed

Oh OP that is proper grim and really odd, I have never (knowingly) met anyone who doesn't put clean underwear on everyday. Although I have been in relationships (not at the same time!) with two men who go commando which I wouldn't recommend for men as you end up with saggy bollocks eventually but that's another story!

dowhatnow · 22/03/2017 13:38

Yep how often does he bath or shower?

FurryLittleTwerp · 22/03/2017 13:40

Just revolting to put dirty pants back on after a shower!

spaghettithrower · 22/03/2017 13:41

Had this with my DP too although he owned more than 3 pairs. Had to educate him that it is unhygienic. He said that when he was growing up at home his mother wouldn't wash his clothes until he had worn them several times (pants included).
He said he did not want to burden me with too much washing. I said it is no problem and is no extra work (I am not ironing the damn things). (He does other jobs around the house before anyone accuses him of being a lazy cocklodger!).
Anyway, he now puts a new pair on every day. It's non-negotiable and I told him so.
Think your DP needs to be told OP. It is disgusting and unhygienic.

diddl · 22/03/2017 13:42

That's er, unusual, isn't it?

I thought my husband was being revolting when he put on yesterday's pants as he was going to mow the lawn before showering & putting clean stuff on.

TheGaleanthropist · 22/03/2017 13:42

Three pairs of pants could be enough as long as he washed them after each wear. I had a minimalist phase when I had 3-5 of essentials and it worked well as I did a small short load of washing every second day, sometimes every day.

But the not washing them is Bleurgh.

If he only washes them once a fortnight is he doing the triple rotation and turn inside out thing? To get six wears per pair. Gross.

steff13 · 22/03/2017 13:45

My DS would do this if left to his own devices. But he is 13. And I nag him about it.

My boys were like this when they were younger. I would ask them when the last time they'd changed their underwear, and if there was a pause, I'd say, "if you have to think about it, it's been too long." It took many years to instill in them that they needed clean underwear every day. Somehow my daughter got it right away; she's 6, and putting on clean underwear is the first thing she does every morning.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/03/2017 13:55

Seriously - he thinks it's OK to wear the same pair of pants for 4-5 days

Why of course, normal way, back to front, inside out, back to front and inside out Grin.

My DPs floor closet is actually in a large walk in cupboard so not visible to the naked eye. Everything is just thrown in in a huge jumble but I can't get worked up about it and ignore the huffing when he can't find a particular favourite T shirt.

He's not perfect, but at least he wears clean pants everyday. And a second clean pair if we go out in the evening.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/03/2017 13:59

How old is he and how has he got to adulthood without realising/learning that clean pants daily is a given? Did he have a challenging upbringing?

PuntCuffin · 22/03/2017 14:00

That is all kinds of grim. Very little makes me go Envy (and that is most definitely go green with nausea, not envy!) but that is truly disgusting! I think my DH gets through at least 3 pairs every day - one for his morning run, one for work and one to sleep in.

Getdownwiththesickness · 22/03/2017 14:01

oh no. Think of all that crotch sweat

paxillin · 22/03/2017 14:04

Boak. Count his socks.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/03/2017 14:05

He is a dirty so-and-so. I would not be touching him with a bargepole until his standards of hygiene had improved substantially!

dudsville · 22/03/2017 14:07

oh you've uncovered something vile there...

Deathraystare · 22/03/2017 14:08

I was on Jury service and a guy admitted to this. All the women went urrrrgh!

ILoveDolly · 22/03/2017 14:10

Yuk! My dp has a whole drawer full

user1476185294 · 22/03/2017 14:11

Yuk! DP thinks I'm odd for taking clean underwear to put on after swimming/gym... makes sense to me, shower = clean underwear.
I thought I was scruffy wearing a jumper for 3 or even 4 days before washing (with a clean t-shirt underneath every other day).

I think were all odd with these things, DP wears a clan t-shirt and jumper each day but will be happy to wear 1 pair of jeans for a week... But putting on dirty boxers... that's just beyond yuk... They must stink!

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/03/2017 14:17

Dhs dm taught him to change socks and pants every other day, the reason given was so they lasted longer. I soon put paid to that. Ew. This is another level of yuk.

InvisibleKittenAttack · 22/03/2017 14:17

You can buy days of the week underwear in a variety of places. Buy him some so you can do random spot checks to see if he's wearing Wednesday ones or still got old Monday pants on. (this plan could fall down if he's been wearing Wednesday pants for a week...)

If he wears the same underpants for more than one day, have you queried his sock change frequency?

Out2pasture · 22/03/2017 14:19

Pants or underwear?
Underwear is underwear and changed daily, pants are jeans, trousers and fine to be worn a few times. So in our house 3 pairs of jeans would be fine.

BonnyScotland · 22/03/2017 14:19

at least he's wearing them... some guys do that.. jeans and no pants thing... aaagghhhhhhhhhhh

BarbaraofSeville · 22/03/2017 14:23

I would expect jeans but no undies to be very uncomfortable for both men and women.

I was dubious about the existence of days of the week pants for adults. I think I thought they were for children to get them into the habit of clean pants each day because it sounds like some men need it only to find they do exist and, while not relevant to this thread, couldn't resist sharing the £160 a set Stella McCartney version Shock

Three pairs of pants is NOT enough... is it??
MerryMarigold · 22/03/2017 14:25

I made my ds remove his pants the other day as he was wearing them for a second day. I noticed as he had no clean ones in his drawer and had not asked me where clean ones were (he always does). We had a big lecture about changing them EVERY DAY. He is 8!

Your DP is completely disgusting. Does he spend 5 minutes removing all wee drips from his willy after every wee? And anyway, what about poo bits and sweat.

And what's the comment about 'women' about. Ehhhhh?? Women don't have hairy bums that catch all sorts of poo bits. Just gross, gross, gross.

P.S Make sure to buy him WHITE underwear so he can see after one day that it's not clean.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 22/03/2017 14:26

Out2 only if you're American. The British mean underwear when they say pants.

Mamadothehump · 22/03/2017 14:27

ShockShockShockThat is disgusting!!!
