To leave the Labour Party?

I'm one of the 40k I voted against corbyn desperate to salvage a party that might at least be decent opposition but he's making sure there is no effective opposition so I'm in arrears on my membership. I no longer feel I can identify with the party or its views.

Dan Jarvis
Keir Starmer

Both would be good candidates but won't be liked by many party members but would be by voters

Anyone who is competent would be a start

Maxwellthecat · 22/03/2017 13:39

I think it'll be Dan Jarvis, he's obviously not going to say he's going for it because anyone who goes against Corbyn will be seen as a traitor. He's playing the long game.

I just wish Corbyn would step down and give his support to a successor, but that's not ever going to happen.

lucydogz · 22/03/2017 13:39

For those who said they wanted Jess Phillips as leader, check out the webchat she did with MN recently. For a woman who prides herself on plain speaking, she was curiously reticent about transgender issues. More importantly, she's one of the most unintelligent MPs I've ever heard.

TheDayIBroke · 22/03/2017 13:41

Tobee not young, no, but something about Corbyn appeals to me, I don't know what. He appears to have the grit and determination to lead and not be bullied by his opponents.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 22/03/2017 13:42

I've heard her speak. She isn't.

NoLotteryWinYet · 22/03/2017 13:42

we have to find a way to pry the JC barnacle out of the bottom of the shipwreck that is the current labour party before we can properly evaluate alternatives...Kezia Dugdale should jump to WM after she's fought off indyref2...

makeourfuture · 22/03/2017 13:43

Jeremy Corbyn on the N. Irish peace process:

"Ultimately it was resolved, so far, by a political process which had respect for the traditions of both communities if you like, in Northern Ireland and we reached a compromise, we reached a settlement, we reached a political process."

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 22/03/2017 13:43

Wes Streeting is another good one for the future.

The spectator blog where that quote appears has this underneath it.

The audacity of this interpretation of Anglo-Irish history, and of Corbyn’s small part in that story, is as astonishing as its dishonesty.

tobee · 22/03/2017 13:48

TheDay Thats because he and his chums are all bullies! I can honestly say nothing appeals to me about him. In fact less and less does as the days pass. Yet I will still vote Labour (it will be my candidate for mp, my local party are not pro Corbyn). There are plenty of talented people in the party, here's hoping no more jump ship. Dugdale should come to Westminster. Anyone else taken with Wes Streeting out of interest?

lucydogz · 22/03/2017 13:49

FWIW I see Emily Thornberry as the future leader of the party. I can't stand her, but just think that's what will happen.
piglet I stand corrected, perhaps Jess Phillips comes across as better in the flesh, but every time I've seen her on TV she comes across as gobby and fairly thick.

tobee · 22/03/2017 13:49

Sorry cross post, Piglet.

Lalsy · 22/03/2017 13:49

I have principles too and they mean I cannot get behind Corbyn. I am not even sure I can vote Labour in a GE with him as leader, as I don't think he is fit for high office, but am hanging onto my membership for now in the hope of voting him out.

I am fed up with the Blairite/tory lite stuff too. Yes, Iraq was a disaster and I opposed it. But read the Labour Party rule book - the point is to be a political party in parliament and the country and win elections. I haven't heard anything from a JC supporter about how that can happen. JC had proper left-wing economists wanting to work with him and they had to walk away because of his incompetence.

malvinandhobbes · 22/03/2017 13:50

I quit. I left after the three line whip on Brexit.

I just do not believe in Corbyn, I believe he is pro-Brexit or simply disinterested. He is a small-issues man. I'd love him on my county council. Not my PM.

tobee · 22/03/2017 13:50

Emily Thornberry!! Good god, please no.

Lalsy · 22/03/2017 13:52

I caught Angela R on the radio the other day before I knew it was her, talking about grammar schools, so an open goal. She was terrible.

ElfrideSwancourt · 22/03/2017 14:03

I'm a lifelong Labour supporter and member but I left when JC was elected- his brand of unelectable hard left doesn't represent me at all. I got so much abuse by JC fans on fb for saying this on LP page - they were horrible and very personal. I can't see myself rejoining in the near future. Really sad

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 22/03/2017 14:07

Emily Thornberry!! Good god, please no.

No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no

TheDayIBroke · 22/03/2017 14:07

Piglet an interesting article. Thank you.

Dare I ask why people don't seem to like Thornbury?

TheDayIBroke · 22/03/2017 14:09

Before I get shot, I'm not keen on Thornberry, as she does not appear knowledgeable, and looks down on the electorate.

tobee · 22/03/2017 14:15

Emily Thornberry? She's a idiot. Her comments about the family with the St George's flag on Twitter, didn't know who the French foreign minister was despite being shadow foreign secretary and decided to accuse Dermot Murnaghan of being sexist over the question HmmShe supports Corbyn...

tobee · 22/03/2017 14:16

*an idiot. Maybe I'm one too?

lucydogz · 22/03/2017 14:16

Reasons for disliking Emily Thornberry

1 - being arrogant enough to tweet the white van in Rochester thing
2 - accepting financial support, while Shadow Defence Secretary, from Leigh Day. A legal firm that was subsequently struck off for hounding British soldiers and bringing false cases against them.
3 - criticising Cameron in the Commons for his policy allowing buy-to-let on Housing Association properties. When she had bought several Housing Association properties. And let them out.
Is that enough?

lucydogz · 22/03/2017 14:17

sorry - cross-posting tobee obviously there were even more reasons than I thought.
