Calling all Spartacus! Jenni needs us!

Am shamelessly posting in AIBU for traffic.

On Sunday Jenni Murray from woman's hour wrote an article saying that transwomen aren't women.

Full article here: www.thetimes.co.uk/article/trans-females-can-never-be-real-women-says-jenni-murray-ht0xhcvrs

In light of the inevitable backlash that Jenni will / is receiving there are a number of efforts to show our support for her.

One of which is co-signing a letter to the BBC. The letter is below and anyone who would like to add their support please message me with your name and you will be added.

"There will undoubtedly be calls for Jenni Murray to leave her position with the BBC following her article of 5th March in the Sunday Times about trans women.
Whether her comments were ‘hurtful’ as Stonewall claim is irrelevant. Murray was bravely sharing her experience as a woman, a feminist and a broadcaster who has navigated a male-dominated society to enjoy a successful career.
Of course trans women have their own hurdles, but those who have spent their formative years as men will not understand the impact of the casual and institutional sexism that women are born into. That some trans women feel justified in wanting to silence Murray speaks volumes about the reality of the different ways men and women are taught and expected to behave.
It is perhaps noteworthy that Murray has made these remarks at the age of 66 with a robust and respected career to bolster her. How many others share her thoughts but are prevented from speaking out for fear of causing offence and sparking a hostile reaction?
To date the BBC has been remiss in its duty to 'educate, inform and entertain’ regarding the ideology behind gender identity. It seems the lobbying activities of groups such as Stonewall and Transmedia Watch have stymied debate, and vilified those who do not share the same viewpoint.
We stand in support of Jenni Murray, and in support of free speech. Please do not cave into the demands to end Murray’s career. The BBC has few older women in positions of seniority, and it would be to the detriment of both audiences and the reputation of the BBC if you were to remove her from post.
Yours"

I am not the author of the letter - that is an amazing women on facebook called Maggie who has organised this.

If anyone would like to add their name directly via facebook let me know and I will send you the link.

I am Spartacus! I am Jenni!

Why would people be at risk of losing their jobs? Well I understand why but how has it got to this point?

Alvinne · 07/03/2017 00:03

Weasle
BBC Complaints is here www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/complain-online/ and the Woman's hour email is: [email protected] or @bbcwomanshour on twitter

llangennith · 07/03/2017 00:24

Every woman I know agrees with Jenni. The BBC needs to take its head out of its arse.

venusinscorpio · 07/03/2017 00:35

I emailed them a complaint saying pretty much that.

Pinbasket · 07/03/2017 01:22

Please pm me the link too. Thanks

highinthesky · 07/03/2017 01:28

I'm looking forward to hearing whether WH raises this on air tomorrow. Is Tuesday a Jenny or a Jane day?

Please don't tell me it's a Nikki day.

RTKangaMummy · 07/03/2017 02:01

Sent emails off to women's hour, BBC, and other BBC feedback

Is stating biological facts actual abuse, now then?
How does the pain caused to you by hearing a factual statement, ie that people can't change sex, compare to, say, knowing that the foetus inside you died, but you have to wait for it to abort spontaneously. To having to go about your life knowing that your baby is dead inside you? I, along with many other women have experienced this horror. No man ever has.

Don't you dare come on here, telling me about our shared experiences as actual women. Some things have only ever happened to women. Never, ever to a man, no matter how fancy his frock!

And believe me, the pain and disyress caused to me by reading that water is wet, or that Thursday follows Wednesday, just doesn't compare.

Pawpainting · 07/03/2017 03:41

NotCaryl Please explain how it is "hateful, bigoted and misogynistic" to acknowledge that males who spent most of their lives living as men, and being treated as such by society, don't share the same experience as someone born female? It's a fact

treaclesoda · 07/03/2017 04:14

OP could you PM me the Facebook link too? I'd like to add my name

iismum · 07/03/2017 04:37

OP, can you send me the link? I've been a little bit cagey about my views on this issue on social media because I've got a lot of right on friends and it'll lead to fallings out. But I can't keep on being such a coward. It's time to take a stand!

WomanScorned · 07/03/2017 05:35

Me too, iismum
I shared it, expecting to be unfrIended by half of my contacts, at the very least.
In fact, it got 3 'likes' and nothing else. I'm guessing many are politely ignoring.

But the backlash I expected. Hasn't happened. I want to believe people are realising that the Emperor is butt naked, or are just not willing to keep up the pretence. Look what happened after the non-cowed and brainwashed child spoke out - the adults began to admit that they couldnt really see his finery. Just the absurdity. And the reality. They were no longer in the thrall of the deluded fool.

teawamutu · 07/03/2017 06:12

Another who couldn't risk social media but I will send it separately.

NotCaryl, I believe that all trans people deserve respect and the pronoun of their choice. I do not believe they can change their basic biology or the lifelong socialisation they've experienced as a result of that biology.

Please explain where the hate and bigotry in that statement is.

teawamutu · 07/03/2017 06:30

Oh, and I've submitted a complaint about the disgraceful treatment of Jenni and pointed out that the BBC has taken a clear and anti women position itself.

DeliciousIrony · 07/03/2017 07:36

Andrew Pierce writes a trans-critical piece in the DM four days before Jenni's article, and barely a ripple...

discotiger · 07/03/2017 08:03

Please might I get the Facebook page link too? Feel compelled to speak up as this just isn't on.

FuckOffDavid · 07/03/2017 08:18

Could I have the Facebook link too please?

glenthebattleostrich · 07/03/2017 08:23

Delicious, do you have a link to that piece?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 07/03/2017 08:44

Please can I have the FB link? I'm out and proud on social media. Not that anyone's reacted. I hardly use FB and my settings are private. I have had 2 friend requests from feminists since I posted about the two library attacks.

Lespritdelsietanner · 07/03/2017 08:52

Love Jenni Murray. Please can I get the FB link.

Somerville · 07/03/2017 08:54

I don't dare speak out on social media either. I feel rather pathetic about that - but too much work crossover, and ultimately providing for my DC has to come first. (Or is that hideously selfish? I need to think about it.)

In the meantime, does someone have a good template of what to send the BBC?

Datun · 07/03/2017 09:01

NotCaryl

Are you going to explain how biology can be bigoted? Or are you going to do the usual cut and run?

needmorespace · 07/03/2017 09:05

complained directly
