To ask what the oldest item is in your house (that still works)?

I just realised that my hairdryer is 15 years old. It's a Remington, and it still works perfectly, so no need to replace it.

I also have a spice rack (spinny round one) which is 10 years old. The spices in it have changed, obviously

Anyone beat those?

Tumble dryer is 20 years old. They don't make em like they used to!

The oldest item in my house that still works is DH, that and my microwave which was a wedding present in 1993.

Me. But I'm on my last legs tbf.

I have a 19 year old toaster that still works. No sign of it giving up, even though it has been used nearly every day since we got it. Everyone else I know has been through about six toasters in that timeframe.

My parents fridge is 40yrs old and still working!

My husband! It was my fridge freezer which gave up the ghost after 15 years a few weeks ago.

Our tumble drier is about 10 years old but has had a new thermostat and door so only bits of it are that old.

Not electrical but I have my nans cookie cutters that used to be her mums. Those things will outlast me!

Funnily enough, my hairdryer is also 15 years old and working perfectly well. I remember because it was the first gift DH ever bought me.

Other than that, DH. He's pretty old and still works okay 😄

I had a hairdryer that was a present on my 17 bday kept it for 25 years and my son used it once and broke it 😔

I will start to consider some things old if they're maybe 30 years old. But then I'm currently sitting on a chair that is probably circa 120 years old.

Does everyone just replace everything in their house after 10 years?

A remote control car that is over 35 years old.

I have a Bamix hand blender that my mum bought to purée my food when I was a baby. I use it every week. I will be 50 later this year.

DH and my DM's food mixer from the early 70s which she got as a gift with her cooker. I use it all the time.

18 year old hair straighteners

We have the original door bells. They hang from a wiry string in the hall, about 8 of them, outside there is a bell pull. When pulled they all jiggle and tinkle. They are 90 years old.

A hand crank singer sewing machine from the 1920's, now those things were built to last!

Also think 10 years is not old. Sitting next a sofa we bought for £50 13 years ago and it still feels temporary and new to us.

Not counting furniture and books of course, the oldest functional item may be the scientific calculator which I used for my A levels some 30 years ago. DH has some of his childhood Technical Lego which would be somewhat older than that.

My bed socks predate our relationship, so pre 1995. I still wear them every night except hot days in summer! they do get washed every now and again

I have a 29 year old fridge freezer, a 32 year old pressure cooker and a 27 year old food processor which are in regular use and all work perfectly.

I won't consider replacing them until they break down. I recently had to replace an 18 year old dishwasher and a 20 year old tumble dryer and I was quite sad to see them go.

I have an electric whisk my gran passed on to me. I'm sure it's older than me, I guess it's over 40 years old.

Our oldest non electrical item is a Victorian silver handmirror my grandparents got me. I did look up when the hallmark was from but can't remember.

Chimneys. Built with the house (early 1900s) and still doing what they were designed to do.
