Not an AIBU, just posting for traffic Smile

I just realised that my hairdryer is 15 years old. It's a Remington, and it still works perfectly, so no need to replace it.

I also have a spice rack (spinny round one) which is 10 years old. The spices in it have changed, obviously Wink

Anyone beat those?

Me.

My tumble dryer is 22 years old. My hair dryer is around 20 and my amplifier is 33.
These are not our oldest electrics....

We have the original toilet from when the house was built in 1901. Totally original, still works and is regularly used.

And my wellies. Circa 1988 and still waterproof though used regularly. Sadly my 1983 calculator packed up 2 years ago- nothing lasts these days.

Love threads like this! I have a saucepan that my DM bought when she moved to the continent in 1978 - just needs the screw for the handle tightening every five years or so. DM (still on continent - I'm in UK) has a stoneware bowl marking the coronation of QE II - older than she is!

kimann · 25/02/2017 22:42

We have a clock that was bought by my husband's grandmother To celebrate the birth of her son - it's about 60 years old I think, might have some silverware from her too that would be a little older but no idea how old.

DontCallMeBaby · 25/02/2017 22:42

I have spices older than the OP's spice rack. Jar of nutmeg, went out of date January 1997. It's been around longer than DH. They're whole nutmegs, so the flavour is still fine.

flogoes · 25/02/2017 22:45

I have a lovely green glass jug and two glasses that were part of a wedding present for my parents who married in 1953. Also some mixing bowls from then. I have some towels that I still use that were bought as a new set from Marks & Spencer when I went to university in 1982!

A lamp that is 29s required in 50s.

SallyGinnamon · 25/02/2017 22:55

Kenwood hand mixer that was from DstepF's first marriage. About 1960.

And my great grandmother's tea set. About 1920.

millymae · 25/02/2017 23:01

My ironing board - it was made by my Great Grandad for my Nan when she married in 1950. She used it regularly as did my mum who passed it on to me when it became too heavy for to easily put up and fold down.

My Great Grandad was a cabinet maker by trade and the frame of the ironing board is made of solid wood. The top has been recovered several times but the frame is as sturdy as it ever was. It makes ironing a pleasure because it doesn't wobble, it has a smooth top with plenty of space for the iron to sit without danger of it falling off and a hanging arm for the clothes.

We call it the family heirloom, and if ironing continues to be necessary I see it being passed down through the family for years to come.

A Ronco brush-o-matic bought in 1970s, cost about £1. It still defluffs clothing & furniture better than anything else.

WhoKn0wsWhereTheTimeG0es · 25/02/2017 23:06

Microwave - 24 years.
Scientific calculator - 32 years and only changed the batteries once.
Lava lamp - 20 years.

My two house plants are 29 and 18 years old. They thrive on neglect it seems.

KirstyJC · 25/02/2017 23:06

A fish slice bought when I left home in 1993. And a cup from a set my grandma had for her wedding gift, not sure of exact date but from the 1940s.

NennyNooNoo · 25/02/2017 23:08

Most of the furniture in our house is between 10 and 50 years old.
We also have plenty of toys and books from the 70s and 80s.
Oldest working electrical items: probably the Bakelite radio and clock, both circa 1930s.
I rarely buy new furniture: if I need something to fit a certain space, I look on eBay.

My Nintendo Gameboy is 20 years old and it works. I still play Tetris on it

My original Nintendo Gameboy is 26 years old but it broke about two years ago. 😢 I think It cost me £65 which was a lot for me then.

Luckily my original N64 still works. It's over 20 years old (Bought in US when it was first released). We still play on it including Tetris.

I've got a Next sweater that's over 30 years old that I still wear.

Sallycinnamon1974 · 25/02/2017 23:15

My oldest household item is a sewing needle case which I bought from a craft fair when I was 10. I'm 43 now.

Losgunna · 25/02/2017 23:18

I have a few books that were my grandads so they're around 70 years old, a belt that way mums that's 30 years old and a table that is 60 years old.

The belt is suede and on its last legs a bit now, the table could be brand new (well made hardwood) and the books are delicate but still readable as they are leather bound hardbacks and have well looked after.

Oh also have some china circa 1915

Losgunna · 25/02/2017 23:22

And my silver christening jug which was my dad's and his siblings', the oldest of whom is in her 60s now

BeBeatrix · 25/02/2017 23:29

A Kenwood chef/mixer which was a Wedding present to my parents in 1971.

Plus lots of furniture and kitchenware predating that.

honeylulu · 25/02/2017 23:35

My great grandfather's barometer now hangs in our hallway (on a south facing wall, as is correct) and it is never wrong! It's well over 100 years old. No idea exactly.

honeylulu · 25/02/2017 23:39

My parents still have a working video recorder circa 1980.
It's a Betamax - anyone else old enough to remember? They still record in it though have to use the same tapes over and over as guess what, they're not available any more.
When my son (now nearly 12) was a toddler he posted a slice of toast and fridge magnets in it. It still works.
