Cheese on toast AIBU

My method: grill on. Bread under. Slice cheese while one side browns. When side is brown, remove and flip over. Add cheese to non-brown side. Back under grill until cheese is bubbling. Eat.

DH's method: bread in toaster. Remove when browned. BUTTER one side Shock add cheese to buttered side. Grill cheese side. Eat.

I think the toaster part and buttering is completely unnecessary. AIBU?

Bread in toaster, grated cheese on top, then chopped cherry tomatoes (some pushed towards edges to try stop toast burning). Then loads of salt. Ummmmm

OneOfThemMenTypeThings · 19/02/2017 18:08

LTB

HermioneJeanGranger · 19/02/2017 18:08

Both sides have to be toasted first, then cheese on once side, under the grill, add woucestershire sauce. Serve.

snowone · 19/02/2017 18:09

Surely both sides need to be toasted?? I think it's weird not to toast both sides! I'm sorry OP but I'm with your husband - and of course butter is necessary, it just adds to the scrumptiousness!......Feeling the need for some cheese on toast now!! Smile

MikeUniformMike · 19/02/2017 18:10

You're right; he's not wrong but his way in far inferior.

Sunnyshores · 19/02/2017 18:10

incorrectly made cheese on toast is better than no cheese on toast

Applebite · 19/02/2017 18:11

My grill is broken. I toast the bread, melt the cheese in the microwave, and pour the cheese on top Blush

Not worth fixing the grill as new kitchen going in soon, so needs must...

ArchNotImpudent · 19/02/2017 18:11

For me, the point is that the untoasted bread under the cheese is lovely and soft. YANBU at all!

MoreThanUs · 19/02/2017 18:12

You've got it nailed!

Mrsmadevans · 19/02/2017 18:13

Your DH is how we do it here

RainbowRabbit33 · 19/02/2017 18:13

Lightly toast, mango chutney, slices of Stilton, grill. Sounds vile, tastes great!

gillybeanz · 19/02/2017 18:14

Your dh is a cheese on toast philistine, you should clearly ltb.
The way you do it is the only way, but of course with added onion or tomato.

Chloe84 · 19/02/2017 18:14

Can you still get the old fashioned flame grills with a tray?

My oven with built in grill is crap at grilling and cheese on toast. Is a separate grill better?

yikesanotherbooboo · 19/02/2017 18:14

I toast one side / turn over and very lightly toast second side... use this for cheese ( sliced) NO butter !

SummerHouse · 19/02/2017 18:14

Oh I have more....

Toast bread add cheese and thinly sliced onion to both pieces. Grill. Sandwich together and butter on top.

Thank me now or later once you have tried this.

whomovedmychocolate · 19/02/2017 18:14

Toast both sides, salted butter and marmite, then cheese, grill.

Grilledaubergines · 19/02/2017 18:14

Your way OP. Anything else is weird.

MycatsaPirate · 19/02/2017 18:14

I love this thread already.

Toast one side of bread

Remove toast, butter lightly on untoasted side, add slices of tomato

Put back under grill until tomato is warm

Remove, add slices of cheese

Grill again

Eat.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 19/02/2017 18:16

My mum makes it by making toast, then laying slices of cheese on a (thick) plate and melting under the grill. Then scraping it off onto the toast. It is the best.

MycatsaPirate · 19/02/2017 18:17

Or dp's Navy favourite

Cheesy, hammy eggy.

Toast one side of bread

Butter untoasted side

Add a slice of ham and a touch of mustard

Fry an egg and place on top of ham

Grate cheese over the top and shove the whole lot back under the grill.

It's amazing.

outabout · 19/02/2017 18:18

Toast bread in toaster.
Add butter if wanted, Place cheese on the toast.
Add L+P/Hendersons/Tom ketchup/Toms/???
Melt cheese in microwave.
No messy grill and saves electricity/gas.
Nobody got anything better to do on a Sunday than writing this?
To make it a real debate, should it be white, brown or any manner of 'wholegrain' bread?

AnnieAnoniMouse · 19/02/2017 18:18

Toast one side under the grill
Lightly toast the other side
BUTTER
Sometimes add: marmite OR tomato OR ketchup OR mustard.
Add cheese, lots of cheese
Grill until bubbling & browning.

....back in 5.

PossumInAPearTree · 19/02/2017 18:18

Some idiot at work tried making cheese on toast in a toaster. Bread, butter, cheese and put it all in the toaster. I assume on its side??

Anyway it set the smoke detectors off and got us a visit from the fire brigade.

Twofurrycats · 19/02/2017 18:18

Toast one side only, put seeded mustard then cheese on untoasted side, grill.

TizzyDongue · 19/02/2017 18:19

I do your way op. Though I confess if there's any uncheesed bits of toast on the cheesy side I might add a sneaky bit of butter to it.
