AIBU?

To potentially get our postman fired

DP is a camera geek. On the weekend he bought a camera trap for catching wildlife in the garden. He wanted to test it out so set it up by the front door so he could test it by the kids going in and out. It's been there since Sunday.

So this evening he had a look at the footage with DD(5). There's us, there's the cat, there's the postman. Oh look, there's the postman having a piss against our garden wall Shock.

Our door is round the side of the house, so out of sight from the road. There's the door, the path next to the house, a small patch of grass and the neighbours wall. He literally posted a letter, turned round, knob out, pissed all over the grass and wall. Knob away, off to post more letters, obviously without washing his hands. Envy

It was done so casually it's hard to believe he's not done it before. On the plus side, he posted our letters first so that won't be covered in piss Grin. But seriously, who would do that?!

Thing is, we're in a village where everyone knows each other, and he's been the postie for years. But IANBU to report him and potentially get him sacked am I?! I have a slight pricking of my conscience if he did lose his job, but surely that's his problem, not mine?!

I'd have a good read before announcing 'facts'. 3.3.b and 3.5.c

3.3 Letting people know about your CCTV system

Ensure that you are transparent to those around you when installing your CCTV system. You can do this by:

a)informing your neighbour(s) about your system
b)putting up a notice informing people that recording is taking place

3.5 Taking responsibility for your CCTV system

If you are thinking of installing a CCTV system on your property, you should be aware of your responsibilities:

a) it is your responsibility to make sure that the CCTV system is installed correctly
b)you are also responsible for all the information that is recorded by your system
c)you must make sure that the information is not used for any other purpose than protecting your property
d)it is vital that you understand how your system works, so please make sure you read the manual and if necessary ask your installer to show you how to operate it

How mean to want to get someone sacked. Royal Mail treat their staff badly these days so any complaint would proper help with their "efficiency drive"

At work it's not uncommon for me to not have access to a toilet for more than five hours, in fact it's been at least eight hours on many, many occasions and I have never pee'd in someone's garden.

What do female posties do? I bet not a single one has ever dropped her trousers in a garden and had a pee.

It's up to adults to moderate their fluid intake if they know they have to wait to use toilet.

Those of you saying it's not a big deal, if it isn't then he won't get sacked, will he? I'm not going to march in somewhere and demand his immediate dismissal Hmm. It would be an email to Royal Mail, then they make the decision. That is the base of the AIBU really - I don't think it's acceptable, I think it's grim to piss where the kids play, I don't want it happening again. And if he's "got no choice", (although what would a female postie do!?), then surely it's up to his employer to,sort that out.

This is what I would say.....
"I wouldn't normally make a big thing about it but my son had a few friends over for tea to watch his new garden wildlife camera that had been filming in the our back garden and they came and told me it seems to have caught the postman during a wee break. Hope I haven't embarrassed you but the kids all told their parents they'd seen the postmans willie!"

What driving said. It's not ideal but he's been caught short doing his rounds and the nearest toilets are in the next village.
What about Paula Radcliffe pissing in the street while running the marathon

People are being absolutely ridiculous! I would be horrified if someone stopped and had a wee in my garden! It is disgusting!

What some of you are saying is that if you need a wee whilst working it is perfectly ok to drop pants and pee where you want? Of course it isn't! He should have held it or gone to the toilet!

I would report to RM - it isn't professional and he needs to be told that. I personally wouldn't approach him myself as I don't like confrontation and would find it embarrassing. Other poster taking about voyeurism etc are just being pathetic- the camera was on your property recording your front door- no problems there.

Chuck if you don't believe that what goes around comes around you are in for a big shock one day.

OP - you sound really petty. Of course female posties do it too. I used to work for Royal Mail and it was absolutely commonplace. What do you think people do when they are walking for miles and there are no public loos on their routes?

Some of you sound really nasty.

As a matter of fact, human piss is very good for lawns, so on those [admittedly limited] grounds he is doing you a favour. OTOH, the fact that he was caught on [as it were] CCTV committing a technical offence [I think it's called a "public nuisance"] implies that you could report him [not to his employers, to whom his bladder and bowels and his control of them presumably mean little] to the police for this crime.

If you did do this, he would very possibly lose his job, and you would acquire [in my view justly] a reputation for being small-minded, mean -spirited and petty.

Will you trace the owners of dogs who piss on your grass and report them [though to whom is a good question]? Will you report the young parent who allows his desperate three year old to piss on your lawn rather than in his pants? It seems to me as though, if you did report your postman, you would be doing so because you could rather than out of any form of public spirit. Nobody likes a sneak.

Fecking the pearl clutching on here, flashing, grooming, reporting, bloody hell Mumsnet is a parallel universe sometimes. So what, he's an adult, even they get caught short! Op about driving to the next village to use the loo, that will cost him dearly to detour like others have said. A discrete notice on yiur door, if he's caught short again, please knock and ask to use the loo if we're in. A bit of kindness for someone who has been your postie for years, not reporting him!

MN is an unusual place at time. Smile

OP. Are you not supposed to make people aware that they might be being filmed? Not sure.

The bloke had a pee. Perhaps not the most well thought out place but he had a pee.

I'm not even sure I would be bothered enough to start a thread, let alone be outraged, as some posters on here Smile.

Where have I said I wanted him sacked? I don't think it's acceptable, I think it reflects badly on him and his employer. I don't think he should be sacked, but I'm aware it's a possibility if I reported him.

The camera is entirely on our property, looking at our property, you can't see the neighbours or any public spaces. Which presumably is why he is pissing there, right opposite my front door.

He chose a secluded spot out of sight of the road - so not really in public.

What concerns me most about your post is the bit "I hate the damn thing filming me coming and going", does your DH have control issues?
Why would a camera set up to capture wildlife be filming your door?

I would obv prefer the postman not to pee in the garden but would put up a sign saying CCTV in operation and hope that would deter him.

Aeroflot I tried to spell parallel in my post, but I've run 10 miles and had a glass of wine tonight .Grin

I wonder if this guy has ever stopped and chatted to an elderly or lonely person on his rounds maybe? Or passed the time of day with someone that needed it at that time? Or maybe he spends his time taking random pee's in folks gardens.

I agree, he shoukd have found a bush, or foliage. I have no problems when people are caught short, it happens, I hate clubbers, which most are men pissing in the streets and doorways, which is disgusting, especially when the clubs and pubs have toilets.

It is sneaky! The hidden/unseen camera is less of an issue...calling the man's boss rather than talking to the Postie yourself is gutless. And sneaky. If he's the community postman and you get him sacked it won't be him who gets a nasty name for himself. It isn't great, having a wee in someone else's garden, so just ask him not to do it in yours. Point out the neighbour you don't like and suggest he uses their lawn.

Report
dustarr73 · 08/02/2017 22:24

Its not pearl clutching for wanting the postie not to piss on your lawn. All this saying its ok,would you let your kids pull down their trousers and have a wee in someones garden.
No i bet you wouldnt,so why is it ok for a grown man.

Totally agree with Aeroflotgirl some of the posts are ridiculous. OMG there's urine on the ground!!!!!

OP you are now claiming you don't want the poor postie with the bursting bladder sacked. So why did you start a thread with that in the title? And why did you say in your OP "I have a slight pricking of my conscience if he did lose his job, but surely that's his problem, not mine?!"

Sounds like you couldn't give a toss. What a lovely person you must be.
