Sainsburys is posh, isn't it?

I mean it is toward the upper end of Poshness isn't it? Coming after Harrods food hall, Selfridge food hall, Booths, M&S, Waitrose then Sainsbury's.

Artisan shops and veg box deliveries probably come between M&S and Waitrose I reckon?

It's definitely posher than Tesco.

I don't know why I've done this op actually. I am so not unreasonable.

I have never heard of Booths, I do have a Budgens though.

The80sweregreat · 05/02/2017 19:22

I think ones with money do shop at aldi n lidl! They know a bargain. My neighbours are wealthy and go there a lot.
The car park at lidl is full of new , big , cars! Who can blame them?

Ollycat · 05/02/2017 19:22

Our Asda has a decent selection of food on par with Waitrose, and it has a great fish counter. Our Sainsbury's is dire - I know you can't judge a shop on tge basis of its selection of olives and humous but Sainsbury's really is shocking!

Chottie · 05/02/2017 19:22

Fortnum and Masons is posh and also Partridges

thethoughtfox · 05/02/2017 19:23

I thought Waitrose was more upmarket than M&S. Am I wrong?

puglife15 · 05/02/2017 19:23

In the industry Sainsbury's is definitely known for attracting a slightly posher/more affluent demographic. Their pricing structure means that quite a few things are 25p more expensive than Tesco/ASDA.

IMO Waitrose is posher than M&S. You can get more organic, unusual, artisanal, wanky products there.

I love a good Waitrose.

flowersandfoxes · 05/02/2017 19:24

But who actually shops at M&S unless you live in a large town or city?

Whathaveilost · 05/02/2017 19:24

Sainsburys posh!!! PMSL!
Have you ever been to the one in Burnley then!

flowersandfoxes · 05/02/2017 19:25

I think the Burnley part would be more the issue.

Joking.

I'm not joking

ShowMePotatoSalad · 05/02/2017 19:26

I don't think Sainsbury's is posh. I used to do my weekly shop there for about £15 when I was a student. All from the basics range - dirt cheap and nothing fancy at all.

Their taste the difference stuff is no posher than ASDA's extra special range.

HoneyDragon · 05/02/2017 19:26

So is it a ruse? Do Sainsbury's just have delusions of grandeur?

OP posts:
TheNaze73 · 05/02/2017 19:27

Sainsburys is there, to keep feral people out of Waitrose

Imamouseduh · 05/02/2017 19:28

No way. It's equivalent to tesco to me.

OhTheRoses · 05/02/2017 19:28

It depends where they are. Our Sainsbury's is full of v naice people and I've watched a Rolls pull into Aldi. Our closest Waitrose is too small, the one near Sainsbury's is higgledy piggledy and in the shopping centre (lift involved) and the naicest one is in Banstead and I can't be arsed to go when I don't want anything else from Banstead!

LunaLoveg00d · 05/02/2017 19:28

I don't consider them posh. Overpriced for what you get, if you ask me. Delusions of grandeur pretty much sums them up - Tesco/Asda/Morrisons quality, but with M&S/Waitrose prices.

Posh is Fortnums.

wonkylegs · 05/02/2017 19:29

I think it's generally overpriced and overrated
Some nice stuff, ours has a particularly good wine selection and sells the middle class nappies I like but I find its fruit, veg, bakery & meat expensive and not great quality and prefer Morrison's even if I have slightly less choice.

ExcellentWorkThereMary · 05/02/2017 19:29

Definitely posh. I can't afford to shop there so it counts as posh.

BakeOffBiscuits · 05/02/2017 19:30

It depends on what you think posh is.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/02/2017 19:30

Decades ago, ASDA was dirt cheap and so was Tesco. Morrison's was only in the north (did that apply to ASDA too?). Sainsbury's was more or less only in the south, and so was Waitrose. They were both posher than Tesco. Since then, Tesco has gone upmarket and Sainsbury's has gone a bit downmarket, so they are now quite similar.

I can assure you that the Sainsbury's in Lewisham is not posh at all. No sirree.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 05/02/2017 19:30

I reckon it's a ruse.

I think Waitrose is a posh ruse too. It's all marketing.

We. Have a m and s foodhall now. Not cheap but the pensioners seem to like it.
I buy bits now and again. Not sure how it stays afloat tbh, but its popular.
Iceland is good here. Much cheaper and so clean too.
Teabags, cleaning stuff etc is very good value.

Embekkisson1 · 05/02/2017 19:31

When my kids were tiny I used to always shop at Asda because the prices were so low and dream of going to Sainsbury's or marks and Spencer's to buy my abs my DH meals for two with wine and pudding , well eventually those days are here although we eat out a lot and are on a diet a lot .
