Sainsburys is posh, isn't it?

I mean it is toward the upper end of Poshness isn't it? Coming after Harrods food hall, Selfridge food hall, Booths, M&S, Waitrose then Sainsbury's.

Artisan shops and veg box deliveries probably come between M&S and Waitrose I reckon?

It's definitely posher than Tesco.

I don't know why I've done this op actually. I am so not unreasonable.

All my reusable bags are ancient Sainsbury's ones. Last time I went to Asda one of the shop staff started laughing and pointed at my bags, she thought I used them to impress the neighbours, now that is weird.

NootNoot · 06/02/2017 17:25

It's not posh its just a rip off.
Sainsbury's high end own brand (Chosen by you?) is often trounced by Aldi or Tesco Finest produce.
M&S isn't posh either- it's just slightly better quality.

Buy Beluga Caviar & Quail Eggs is posh.

The80sweregreat · 06/02/2017 17:32

My posh mate cooked me a quail egg from Waitrose and it was lovely.

Not a fan of eggs, but it was nice!

Lovelybangers · 06/02/2017 17:50

Were you still hungry after the one quail egg? Grin

DorkusDelonghi · 06/02/2017 17:55

Quail eggs aren't posh. We have them all the time. They only cost £2.60 (or £3.99 pre-prepared). How can something under a fiver be posh?

I think there are very few things that are posh. Apparently the billionaires are employing people to come up with posh things for them to eat as so much of what used tonne exclusive has become commonplace.

DorkusDelonghi · 06/02/2017 17:57

I think employing someone to come up with expensive or exclusive things for you to eat probably is posh. But it is also rather wanky.

The80sweregreat · 06/02/2017 18:03

Ha ha! She did do other food too! ( from waitrose.)

Manijo · 06/02/2017 18:24

can remember my snobby 16 yo DD telling me I was common for shopping at Tesco when Waitrose was just round the corner...fast forward 3 years when she's at university and is now Lidl's best customer Grin

brasty · 06/02/2017 18:25

I think quail eggs are posh

The80sweregreat · 06/02/2017 18:28

Manijo, we live and learn eh?
Whatever happened to Neto?

limon · 06/02/2017 18:41

Yes it's posh

HoneyDragon · 06/02/2017 18:42

I pay £1 for Quails eggs

DorkusDelonghi · 06/02/2017 18:48

Directly to the quails? Shock

HoneyDragon · 06/02/2017 18:52

Sainsbury's is not posh but definitely posher than Tesco's, Morrison's, Co op or Asda. Our nearest Sainsbury's is just cleaner, tidier and smarter looking than the Tesco/coop/Asdas I've been in. Our local Tesco's is grubby, smells funny and just looks a bit of a mess.

DorkusDelonghi · 06/02/2017 18:55

I want to pay the quails! Everyone has such better lives than me.

Crumbs1 · 06/02/2017 19:13

Foreman and Field is good.
Most people I know grow their own veg and fruit and trade for variety.
Most make their own jams, soups, sauces, marmalade and chutney or get from the WI market.
We grow some of our our own meat - lamb, pork.
We buy beef and chicken from local (over the road) farm (delivered butchered).
The fish man comes around fortnightly but the Fish Society is good for variety and nice fish.
The baker delivers to the village shop.
Then we tend to use the farmers market, deli and gelateria in town.
Supermarkets are a personal preference thing rather than grandness. Convenience etc but I think most people do online for larder stocks and housekeeping items.

brasty · 06/02/2017 19:16

I havent even heard of Forman and Field. I must be common as muck.

The80sweregreat · 06/02/2017 19:26

Dorkus, cheer up. It wasnt that great, just a soft egg! Lol.
My friend probably did pay the Quail directly on Quail pay..
Not heard of Forman n Field either, but did buy some jam from the WI once! ( just once mind) and been to a farmers market. I must admit i was a bit ' how much!' But then im very common..lol.
I do get why supermarkets have such a bad press though

Crumbs1 · 06/02/2017 19:36

No supermarkets are very good for imported essentials, everyday flowers, basic larder goods and household. It's just they are ghastly to wander around.

Manijo · 07/02/2017 10:29

We have a [Budgens] in the place we just moved to...where does that fit in? only been there once and prices seemed eyewatering

ILikeyourHairyHands · 07/02/2017 14:33

I use Forman and Field. Excellent smoked salmon.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 07/02/2017 14:35

(And eel, and any other smoked fish you could imagine, unsurprisingly as they started life as a smokery in London).

DorkusDelonghi · 07/02/2017 15:25

Ocado sell some H Forman & Son - it must be the same?

Lowdoorinthewal1 · 08/02/2017 06:58

Manijo My town has Waitrose, Sainsbury's and Budgens.

Waitrose and Sainsbury's are open at times when only the local retired gentry can attend (10.30 - 11.30am on Tuesdays and Thursdays I think). Budgens has the rest of us as a captive audience.

Happy to charge us £7.50 for a ready made lasagne. Shock
