Sainsburys is posh, isn't it?

I mean it is toward the upper end of Poshness isn't it? Coming after Harrods food hall, Selfridge food hall, Booths, M&S, Waitrose then Sainsbury's.

Artisan shops and veg box deliveries probably come between M&S and Waitrose I reckon?

It's definitely posher than Tesco.

I don't know why I've done this op actually. I am so not unreasonable.

Why are things coming up as links?!

JaniceBattersby · 05/02/2017 19:45

What about Heron? Do people shop there?

People mainly shoplift in ours.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 19:45

I have been to a Booths once in the Lake District I think Ninja so it was quite posh.

The80sweregreat · 05/02/2017 19:46

I am not a snob, but Farmfoods wasnt great. I made it out alive.
It seems to need a new idenity

ArriettyClock1 · 05/02/2017 19:46

I would put Sainsbury's on a par with Tesco - i.e. not posh.

The80sweregreat · 05/02/2017 19:47

Identity ?

MagicalMrsMistoffelees · 05/02/2017 19:48

Think they've decided they can't compete with Aldi and Lidl so have massively increased their prices (is it only me that's noticed?!), had a major aisle reshuffle (can't find anything now!) and are keeping their fingers crossed that shoppers will now accept them as an alternative to M&S and Waitrose.

Sorry Sainsbury's, no. You are a Tesco competitor and if you don't rethink your massive price increases you will lose market share very quickly.

Embekkisson1 · 05/02/2017 19:48

Farm foods ???my darling Ds were very alergic to the sliced bread and yougarts

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 19:49

Also - posh people test! Posh people like my step mother never say m and S. They say Marks. In her town there is a Co op with the emphasis on the second syllable. So it sounds posh. They can drive to a nearby town where one will find a 'Tesco' ( never say Tescos : this is non -U) and a Marks next to each other. She only went to Tesco to buy children's clothes once when we forgot to pack any for a visit to them. QED . Tesco, not posh. Marks = posh.
She likes the idea of Sainsburys but they don't have one nearby.

flowersandfoxes · 05/02/2017 19:52

I can it Marks. That's not posh. Stacey does it in Gavin & Stacey.

SpongebobRoundPants · 05/02/2017 19:52

Well if we are adding Farmfoods shall we also add Londis?

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 19:53

Have now noticed how posh MN is - virtually everyone on here wrote Tesco not Tescos (hangs head in shame for being common..)

AQuietMind · 05/02/2017 19:53

People mainly shoplift in ours Grin

I have been in a couple of times now and there is some bargains to be had if you stuff them up your jumper and run

The80sweregreat · 05/02/2017 19:53

We have a ' nica' too near us. V small- when it was a co op it was ok. Its ok for bread and milk etc, but thats it.
My dad loves his costcutter, knows the owner and its quite reasonable.
Its all horses for courses i guess

wonkylegs · 05/02/2017 19:54

All of them can be a bit location dependent as they will skew the 'experience' for the demograpic.
I've been in a rather ordinary Waitrose and a rather nice Tescos. Our local sainsbury's is in the affluent end of town and sells some exceptional wine but I've been in others that were much more ordinary. The Tescos where we used to live was fantastic and had everything you could ever want, the one where we live now is rather eclectic and rubbish. I like our local Morrisons (northern) as the staff are exceptionally helpful and they have good fresh produce but my dads (southern) local one is the opposite.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 19:54

Nisa ! You haven't looked very hard!!

Shoutout for Budgens??

Hassled · 05/02/2017 19:55

I think HoneyDragon's pecking order of supermarkets is spot on. After Sainsburys comes Tescos, then Co-Op, then maybe Budgens, then Aldi, Lidl, Farm Foods/Iceland. I've shopped in all of them so am not a very good supermarket snob - but the Sainsbury's marketing department seem to want to pitch it as not-quite-Waitrose-but-posher-than-Tescos.

Hassled · 05/02/2017 19:56

Oh I forgot Morrisons. Have no idea where Morrisons fits in. Level with Tescos?

The80sweregreat · 05/02/2017 19:56

Nisa! Thats it. I admit i rarely frequent our one now its not the coop.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 19:56

Is Sainsburys basically a lib dem supermarket??

M and S seems a bit Tory.

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2017 19:57

The highest prices and worst shopping experience in these parts is the local Spar.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 05/02/2017 19:57

DH says you can't compare M&S with Waitrose because M&S is for people who can't cook. Wink

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 19:58

Haha 80s not sure anyone 'frequents' a Nisa. maybe glue sniffers...

The80sweregreat · 05/02/2017 19:58

M and s is tory,
I try to boycott it, but have been known to buy some bits in there..
Farmfoods is the raving monster loony party

The80sweregreat · 05/02/2017 19:59

Ha ha, yes. Not so nice in Nisa
