Sainsburys is posh, isn't it?

I mean it is toward the upper end of Poshness isn't it? Coming after Harrods food hall, Selfridge food hall, Booths, M&S, Waitrose then Sainsbury's.

Artisan shops and veg box deliveries probably come between M&S and Waitrose I reckon?

It's definitely posher than Tesco.

I don't know why I've done this op actually. I am so not unreasonable.

Have been to Sainsburys today to do the weekly shop - it's not posh - it's just a supermarket. Go in, chose your shopping, pay and leave. Why on earth would someone think that one supermarket is posher than another? They're just shops!

SpongebobRoundPants · 05/02/2017 19:31

Asda is waaaay below lidl and aldi. I actually think L and A are quite popular with the middle class these days.

My local Lidl is full with middle class people wearing riding pants with knee high boots and a Barbour jacket calling for their children named Peaches and Florence.

The80sweregreat · 05/02/2017 19:33

Your lidl is wayyy posher than our one! And ours is posh! Lol

PremierCru · 05/02/2017 19:33

I am astonished at people putting M&S Foodhall above Waitrose! Confused

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 19:35

Oh my God the Sainsburys nearest to me is an absolute shithole. It smells of urine. I think they missed the ' we are posh' memo.

The80sweregreat · 05/02/2017 19:35

Sponge, do they come out to their horse tethered to the post?

BiscuitMillionaire · 05/02/2017 19:35

I would say Sainsburys is firmly in the middle. Not posh but it does have artisan bread and fibre-added pasta.

ShowMePotatoSalad · 05/02/2017 19:36

I think M&S foodhall is above Waitrose. I'd never been in a Waitrose until last year and it was really pedestrian, just like any other supermarket.

M&S Foodhall is amazing. I'd shop there all the time if I could afford it / didn't want to get stuck in queues for half a century.

Doobigetta · 05/02/2017 19:36

M&S food is not what it used to be.
There are only two Waitroses near me. A tiny one that is great but limited range, and a medium sized one that is really old and tired and not smart at all.

flowersandfoxes · 05/02/2017 19:36

Artisan bread & fibre added pasta are wanky not posh.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 19:36

Mine does not have artisan bread. I think that's the area rather than the shop...

I think it depends where you live, we don't even have a Waitrose, I don't regard Sainsburys as posh, it's just offers a more comfortable shopping experience, which you pay a bit more for. Here's my preferences:
M&S
Sainsburys
Aldi
Morrisons
Asda
Tesco the worst of them all.

SmilingButClueless · 05/02/2017 19:38

Sainsburys isn't posh, just expensive.

JaniceBattersby · 05/02/2017 19:38

For those asking, Booths is a fancy, family-run store with only a few shops in the north of England. It was up north's answer to Waitrose, until, erm, Waitrose arrived.

I love Booth and it's my first stop when I'm back up in Preston

mambono5 · 05/02/2017 19:38

It's a supermarket, how can it be posh? Confused Some branches are bigger than others, but prices are similar to Tesco, Asda. M&S is different because they sell mainly their own brand, but I am not sure that makes them posh.

I agree that Lidl and Aldi are very fashionable at the moment. Unless you are in the neighborhood, you are unlikely to pop at Harrods. That's the only posh one, the address makes it fairly exclusive, even if it's full of tourists.

BiscuitMillionaire · 05/02/2017 19:38

Parker Why on earth would someone think that one supermarket is posher than another?

Because they sell different ranges aimed at a different demographic.

The80sweregreat · 05/02/2017 19:39

I love a bit of orange and cranberry nutty bread on pay day.
Its the normal stuff the rest of the month..

VirgilsStaff · 05/02/2017 19:39

Sainsbury's is just normal, isn't it?

Now, Booth's is the place - best-kept secret in the north west ...

JaniceBattersby · 05/02/2017 19:39

And also, people are forgetting Farmfoods. Surely fighting for bottom spot along with Iceland?

foodiefil · 05/02/2017 19:41

I love Booths! But it's mostly in the North West isn't it? None in the North East sadly. I LOVE BOOTHS

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 05/02/2017 19:41

Actaully, I'm an authority as we have all of them:

Waitrose in nearby Georgian town - wanky and posh
Tesco is next door town to Georgian town - busy and not posh
Two tescos in my town : one ahs artisan bread and is ordinary
one is definitely not posh!
Three Aldis : all deserted and nothing on shlves. We do not egt yummy mummies in ours!
Sainsburys North of town - posh with private school kids and mums braying
Waitrose next to Tesco : put in wrong place. All the posh people are at the posh Sainsburys. Nice cafe
Morrisons - clean, deserted not at all posh . Old people
Sainsburys near me - absolute cess pit of humanity
M and S food hall - vvvvvvvvvv posh. My car looks embarrassed in the car park.

AQuietMind · 05/02/2017 19:42

What about Heron? Do people shop there?
