MN clique

I'm a regular poster, and have name changed for this.

Is it just me, or does there seem to be a clique here? Some people's posts always get answered and they seem like a happy friendly little group. If you're 'new' or haven't posted that much, you pretty much get ignored.

I enjoy reading the posts, and I enjoy posting, but this 'exclusivity' is really getting to me. This is supposed to be a place people can come with their problems/jokes etc, and to feel like some people are 'left out' kinda defeats the object IMHO.

OP posts:
Cherrysoup · 05/02/2017 16:57

I read the 'nice first post' as the op sounds like a troll

Maybe, but if someone thinks that, best surely just to ignore and move on.

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2017 16:59

Yes Katie I saw that. All very strange.

I agree with Highalert. The longer you are on here the more you get to recognise goady wind ups.

CaraAspen · 05/02/2017 17:00

"Cherrysoup

Of course. But some people cannot resist and the mods disapprove hugely.

Highalert · 05/02/2017 17:01

All your posts are interesting, cara.

BIWI · 05/02/2017 17:02

Cherrysoup - are you new to internet forums?

Or MN?

Trolling is a horrible phenomenon, and lots of posters have been very hurt (and sometimes put themselves at risk by getting involved) by trolls. It absolutely isn't something that should be ignored.

That's why 'regulars' Hmm might post to others things like 'nice first post', so that the less aware can be alerted to a possible trolling poster. (As well as reporting to MNHQ, obviously).

Witchend · 05/02/2017 17:04

I name change about every months or so, and I've never noticed any difference in how people respond to me when I've just name changed or just before I do.

I certainly don't look at the username before I respond, although I do have a certain tendency to think "I agree with that poster," look at the username and find it's Worra.

TickTickBoomBoom · 05/02/2017 17:05

I'm not a troll Sad. I'm just a normal person. I despise trolls and people who go out of their way to hurt or upset others.

Why did you name change Tick?
It would have made more sense to post this in your regular name, then people could actually have helped you.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 05/02/2017 17:13

No and I used to post all the time before my kids returned to school, I dip in and out now and like seeing all the old faces despite it being at least 2-3 years since I posted lots now.
I don't find it a nest of vipers either, when I've needed support it's been invaluable.

Do you go to unanswered threads? As I used to often do that to make sure people had a reply. Once it got into active others would reply too.

Or if it's one of your own threads bump it?

ClashCityRocker · 05/02/2017 17:18

I don't think you're a troll ticktick just think you've got the wrong end of the stick.

Due to the size of the forum, threads can slide off active quite quickly. Personally, I only read what comes up in active, or a select few sub topics that cater towards my interests.

OhhBetty · 05/02/2017 17:19

Just whilst we're here, can someone explain to me what a mumsnet chicken is please? I've been wanting to ask but didn't want to start a thread about it. I've googled but all that comes up is recipes!

ArmySal · 05/02/2017 17:20

It's the ability to make a chicken and serve it to a family of 6 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 05/02/2017 17:20

Today 15:02 Foxesarefriends

'Today 14:56 Highalert

There is sometimes a 'call to arms' Much less now then there used to be though'

That definitely did used to happen and I agree, much less so.
...

I do get (childishly) bothered when I suggest something which gets ignored and another poster suggests it and gets the glory Grin.

How ironic that you quoted HighAlert, when I mentioned the "call to arms" first. < stamps foot>

It's YOU @Foxesarefriends, YOU'RE the clique ShockGrin

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 05/02/2017 17:22

Ooh ooh waves hand I know what the chicken is!
It's a mythical beast that can serve roast dinner for 12 on Sunday, sandwiches for 10 on Monday and make stock for soup on Tuesday or something like that

KatieScarlett · 05/02/2017 17:23

The chicken is a legendary MN invention where posters like to brag about how many meals they get out of said poultry. E.g.
On Monday, we had roast chicken for 10, Tuesday was chicken curry for 20, Wednesday, goujons for 4 (freezes the other 6 portions), Thursday, chicken noodle soup for 13...
All from one little bird.
Marvellous.

Sallystyle · 05/02/2017 17:23

I never name change and I'm not a part of a clique.

There are a handful of posters who are well liked and popular. But, they have put a lot of time into posting and helping others, so it's natural they will have built up relationships. There is no MN clique.

OhhBetty · 05/02/2017 17:23

Haha thanks ArmySal and JohnLapsleyParlabane! I may sleep a little better knowing that!

Foxesarefriends · 05/02/2017 17:24

Soz MilkTwoSugarsThanks, I have been in a clique of my own for 14 years.

StumblyMonkey · 05/02/2017 17:29

A MN regular from Relationships pulled me up on something about a year ago and I've never seen any fall out from it.

I very, very much doubt the regulars on here who I assume you're counting as part of a possible clique have the time or inclination to suggest people don't talk to someone.

Anyway there's sooooo many posters here that even if the 20 or so (?) posters I can think of did ignore you it would hardly make any difference to the number of replies to your posts overall.

Sorry, OP, I too think you're being paranoid on this one...

ClashCityRocker · 05/02/2017 17:30

The thing is with the MN chicken, is they then go on to say the use the meat for flavouring not as the main meal itself.

The same effect could be achieved with a bisto stock cube. And then you could have a proper portion of chicken with your roast dinner.

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2017 17:30

I think they eat the chicken bones in a sandwich on the Friday. Grin It's also known as the 'magic' chicken.

KatieScarlett · 05/02/2017 17:30

Funnyonion17 · 05/02/2017 17:31

I've never noticed a clique. I have noticed a few posters over the years who are regulars. I did have someone tell me to basically shut up earlier in the week as the person who I defended myself too was a long standing, respectable member apparently. Told them I'm not a sheep!

Most people are ok and will reply to anyone. There are many with axes to grind though, they take your post and project their own situation upon it. Can get a bit crazy!

DioneTheDiabolist · 05/02/2017 17:31

I've never received a call to arms. What sort of threads were they used for? And I've never received a pervy PM, just one politely offering me sex. I turned him down. He was in an inconvenient location.
