MN clique

TickTickBoomBoom · 05/02/2017 14:12

I'm a regular poster, and have name changed for this.

Is it just me, or does there seem to be a clique here? Some people's posts always get answered and they seem like a happy friendly little group. If you're 'new' or haven't posted that much, you pretty much get ignored.

I enjoy reading the posts, and I enjoy posting, but this 'exclusivity' is really getting to me. This is supposed to be a place people can come with their problems/jokes etc, and to feel like some people are 'left out' kinda defeats the object IMHO.

OP posts:
Kirriemuir · 05/02/2017 16:28

I've been in here for 11 years. I couldn't tell one poster from the next.

Highalert · 05/02/2017 16:31

No one really flounces these days.

ClashCityRocker · 05/02/2017 16:32

See if ghost doesn't mind me using her as an example...

I've followed some of ghosts previous posts so know a little about her situation and have posted on her threads previously a time or two. If I see a thread posted by ghost in active, I'll click on it even if the title is quite mundane to see how she's getting on. ghost and I have never had any personal interaction - we don't know each other IRL, no pms etc. She's just a poster I recognise and want things to turn out good for, so I maybe take more interest in her posts than I would someone whom I hadn't come across.

KatieScarlett · 05/02/2017 16:34

Nothing good ever came from a flounce. 💃💃💃

ClashCityRocker · 05/02/2017 16:35

hmm, I think that came out wrong. I'm certainly not being very air-you-dight today.

DioneTheDiabolist · 05/02/2017 16:37

The OP's name doesn't appear on my Active page, so I just go by the titles.

Cherrysoup · 05/02/2017 16:39

It was an off mn group started because of some big fall out. It got all a bit mean girls as only certain posters past the test to be allowed in.

How very Mallory Towers. Sounds ridiculous.

Other forums recognise people far more quickly, especially troll types purely due to their size. I wouldn't have a clue on here. Someone mentioned MN 'royalty' the other day. I gathered this just means someone who hasn't name changed ever, I didn't see how this made them more valid in their comments than a newcomer.

Newbies sometimes get a raw deal on here, particularly when established people bang on about 'nice first post'. Who cares, honestly? Everyone has to start posting sometime, no need for the ones who've been here ages to have a go. And who on earth checks back on someone's posting history? Confused

ghostspirit · 05/02/2017 16:41

There nothing wrong with a group of people who happen to get on.simlar threads might intrest them so tend to bump into each other.

UnbornMortificado · 05/02/2017 16:41

And who on earth checks back on someone's posting history?

Me if someone pisses me off or if something clicks and makes me worry about a certain poster. I can't be the only one?

I remember the most mundane shite though.

Bambambini · 05/02/2017 16:42

"What I can't understand is how people are fearful of being identified. Wow, in a population so large as the UK (and other countries are represented too, I know), the chances of that must be so small! But I suspect it is just being identified in the bubble of MN. How fekkin sad."

Depends, i remenber Riven and how that blew up. LaQueen too though less pulic and serious but still obviously not pleasant for her.

The media (TV and press) have focussed on quite a few posters and comments which could be identifying. I've spotted a few folk i've known on social media - if people post about certain recognisable situations - of course they could be spotted.

ghostspirit · 05/02/2017 16:43

I thought mn royalty was another name for mnhq.

Lweji · 05/02/2017 16:43

I did come across an old thread about using homeopathy to treat worms the other day.

Were they advocating giving the person very diluted (10 ^60) worms to treat worms? As per definition of homeopathy?

Hi OP I'm really sorry you've experienced this. I feel compelled to reply though. I'm a pretty infrequent poster and don't really use the standard MN acronyms or lingo but I posted for some support in relationships recently and lots of lovely, kind, thoughtful posters who don't know me took the time out to give considered advice and it touched me. Yes there were the odd couple of cruel ones just there to out the boot in but they were easily ignored. Just to give you a balanced view.

Highalert · 05/02/2017 16:45

No one really knows who is a newbie though.

'Nice first post' is code for Troll. And is usually right.

CaraAspen · 05/02/2017 16:50

"DioneTheDiabolist

I use my iPhone to access this site and every site I go to so I don't get last name or any other additional stuff. Using a mobile site takes up less space, obviously.
I respond to titles.

KatieScarlett · 05/02/2017 16:50

I prefer the understated "Wow" Shock

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2017 16:51

I think there should be a box to tick on the report page- 'Interesting first post'.

If your first ever post on the site is just normal nobody would bat an eyelid or start doing ASs etc.

BoffinMum · 05/02/2017 16:52

If there's a clique on here I haven't noticed.

If your first post is about anal sex then you will get lots of 'interesting first post' replies.

MiddleClassProblem · 05/02/2017 16:54

I'm that way inclined that if someone PMed me telling me not to talk to someone I would tell them that I will do as I bloody well please and probably comment just to prove a point.

Sparkling Did you see the KP and Cowell story today? Now there's a combo I didn't expect.

Highalert · 05/02/2017 16:56

If you have been around the MN block a few times, you can tell if a thread has been started to wind everyone up.
