I've always regarded the Beckhams as a textbook example of much that's wrong with our celeb-culture, accumulating vast wealth and renown on the coat-tails of very mediocre talent.

Now it seems the charitable work was all in aid of securing a knighthood.

It says that the charity had explained that when someone sets up a specific fund-as DB did with the 7Fund for UNICEF, it is normal that the celebrity puts some of their own money in. They didn't ask for a million. I think that number came from DB doing a series of events around the world and the fees from these would be donated to the fund. The charity seems to think this is the case, that's why they were 'asking' where the money was. But DB appears to be exceptionally reluctant to put any of 'his money' in the fund. Even when it was explained that they were literally waiting for the money so they could sent urgently needed aid straight to children in extreme need.
