David Beckham's leaked emails

parrots · 04/02/2017 08:53

I thought he came across rather well on Desert Island disks the other day, but AIBU to be glad that DB has been exposed?

I've always regarded the Beckhams as a textbook example of much that's wrong with our celeb-culture, accumulating vast wealth and renown on the coat-tails of very mediocre talent.

Now it seems the charitable work was all in aid of securing a knighthood.

Well someone somewhere knows the truth.

I can well imagine someone sat there bursting to tell people what really happens and clear it up once and for all but unable too.

I don't really care either way if it's true or not.

Mrsglitterfairy · 04/02/2017 09:21

I agree with Chattymummy who's business is it what he says in his private emails? I'm super nice & professional at work but if I'm having a bad day I'll text DH slagging people off or having a rant. Does that mean I'm a bad person etc? No. What is said between friends etc in private should remain there. And I would agree calling them a bunch of c*s, I've probably said things like that about my colleagues in jest if things didn't go my way Grin

ChuckSnowballs · 04/02/2017 09:21

This is definitely a spoof. There is no way he is capable of using a computer.

Gileswithachainsaw · 04/02/2017 09:22
Grin

chuck

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 04/02/2017 09:22

In all honesty I couldn't give a flying fuck. These things should in general be taken with a pinch of salt.
Can't abide this hacking of emails & messages, these things are private & no-ones business.

parrots · 04/02/2017 09:22

There's more information about the source of the leaks here.

theblacksea.eu/index.php?idT=88&idC=88&idRec=1298&recType=story

It cites 'the European Investigative Collaborations (EIC) network, with research by The Sunday Times.'

The Sun broke the story in the UK, wouldn't be surprised if the Sunday Times runs a companion piece tomorrow about Brand Beckham's dubious tax affairs

I'm a bit on the fence to be honest, we all know how easily these things can be doctored as part of a smear campaign, or he could have written them, I'd guess the truth is somewhere in the middle and it's been doctored to be exaggerated.

I also agree on why should he put a million of his own money into the fund.

elodie2000 · 04/02/2017 09:24

Cathf
Oh how wrong you are! Just to make your head spin even more with confusion, I have the DF *AND' the Guardian pushed though my door every Sunday. I read both online every day and both are full of crap.
Have you not been here long? DF is MN nickname for DM. Get with it. Hmm

WhatInTheWorldIsGoingOn · 04/02/2017 09:27

Why do people seem so gleeful about a family being damaged by the media? They have children big enough to read and understand what is written about their parents.

Theu have accumulated great wealth through a lot of hard work. Why do people want to bring them down? It has to be jealousy. If you weren't jealous then you wouldn't care enough to comment on them.

3luckystars · 04/02/2017 09:27

Not true.

Chloe84 · 04/02/2017 09:29

From the article:

A spokesperson for David Beckham said: 'This story is based on outdated material taken out of context from hacked and doctored private emails from a third party server and gives a deliberately inaccurate picture.

So which is it, are the emails out of context or doctored? This makes me think the emails are real and DB's PR are desperately trying to throw doubt on them. If the emails weren't legit, they would call them fake.

CheckpointCharlie2 · 04/02/2017 09:33

I still would.

elodie2000 · 04/02/2017 09:33

Chloe
DB's spokesperson has just summed up newspaper 'journalism' in one paragraph.

TheFirstMrsDV · 04/02/2017 09:35

MN hates the Beckhams.
I have never worked out why but I suspect its got quite a bit to do with annoyance at the uppity working classes.

Its interesting that the 'National Treasure' Bruce Forsyth was very open about his wish for a Knighthood and how pissed off he was that he didn't have one yet. He acted like a petulant child.
I didn't see a word about him.

But this leak about Beckham is enough to expose what he is 'really like'?

Bollocks.

The truth is that there are a lot of people who are furious that the Beckham haven't stayed in their boxes.

I've always regarded the Beckhams as a textbook example of much that's wrong with our celeb-culture, accumulating vast wealth and renown on the coat-tails of very mediocre talent

Get a grip. He was a talented football player who entered the profession as a young boy.
She was in a manufactured pop band. How is that different from Lulu or Cilla? They are held up as icons.
They have invested and diversified and all that time giving huge amounts to charity and getting on with their lives.

Their crime is to be 'common' but not humble.

Costacoffeeplease · 04/02/2017 09:38

He used to be a twat and he's still a twat - shrug

ScarletForYa · 04/02/2017 09:38

I don't like the Beckham's but having read these emails, so what?

He's a bit grasping but that's not news, the two of them are known for being materialistic and status hungry.

Boring.

purplepebbles · 04/02/2017 09:38

Is Katherine Jenkins the one who said she had definitely not had an affair with DB, no way, when it was not really on anyone's radar?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/02/2017 09:38

Even if he was never bothered about a knighthood, I wouldn't mind betting that Victoria would LOVE to be a Lady.

The mere thought of either of them having handles to their names makes me want to puke.
Even more especially perhaps him, once he covered himself with tattoos.

If that makes me a tattoo-ist snob, so be it.

In any case, I don't see that anyone with so much money that they can give a lot away without even missing it, particularly deserves any special recognition.

If they were to give so much that it materially affected their lifestyle, that would be a different matter.

BillSykesDog · 04/02/2017 09:39

They have children big enough to read and understand what is written about their parents.

What? I think this is probably an unreliable story based possibly on criminal activity. But the press have a right to report that it has happened.

Those children live an astoundingly lavish lifestyle largely based on their parents ability to use the press for their own financial advantage. When negative stories appear nobody has the right just to say 'Oh won't someone think of the chiiiiildreeeeen'. If you don't want to appear in the press get a job as an accountant or in a supermarket. Don't shove your visage in the press every time there's money to be made then whinge privacy if you get a less than positive story.

Or are we to have a Pravdaesque press that only reports on the mighty deeds and great successes of our dear leaders?

Runny · 04/02/2017 09:39

This isn't Daily Mail rubbish at all. The Sun have put it on their front page this morning, they have taken the story from French publications where the story originated.

parrots · 04/02/2017 09:39

Theu have accumulated great wealth through a lot of hard work. Why do people want to bring them down? It has to be jealousy. If you weren't jealous then you wouldn't care enough to comment on them.

Jealousy and 'hard work' are red herrings. I 'work hard' and am actually very wealthy myself - I don't envy them. But plenty of other people work even harder still - in far more worthwhile jobs - and are living on the breadline.

It's the hypocrisy that rankles - the British press have feted and protected the Beckham brand for years, I think it's good to see the other side exposed

OP posts:
howabout · 04/02/2017 09:40

I don't think it's fair. Sir Andy didn't even want his knighthood and look at all the suspicions re Sir Bradley. Maybe if Sir Phillip has to give his back Becks could have it, although I think VB may be more deserving for services to fashion.

TheFirstMrsDV · 04/02/2017 09:47

Yep Parrots I would be one of them.
Low income, hard work in a vital sector.

Do I froth about the Beckhams being succesful? Nope. It bothers me not.
I am not a fan but I don't like the way they are slagged off for all kinds of things when really its down to a couple of things 'common' and 'vulgar'.

Fuck all to do with anything else. It doesn't matter what they do, they will always be Non U to certain people.

This email stuff is irrelevant.

TheFirstMrsDV · 04/02/2017 09:48

It's the hypocrisy that rankles yeah course it is. This is all about your higher ideals.

cathf · 04/02/2017 09:50

Elodie, in that case, I apologise unreservedly, although I am a bit puzzled why you would buy a paper you refer to as the Daily Fail.
I disagree that the DF is MN nickname for the Mail generally though - it is used as virtue signalling to illustrate the poster using the nickname does not approve of the 'Fail' and although he/she is happy to discuss it, needs to make it clear that she/he would not he seen dead with the Mail Hmm
