To wonder how far Trump will be allowed to go

before action is taken for the world's safety?

So far we've seen executive orders to increase nuclear defences, build the wall and stop all entry to the US from at least seven countries. Also executive orders winding female reproductive rights back several decades. There rumblings of restoring torture and various other things that aren't official yet.

Quite honestly this is part borne of my ignorance of how American constitution works but so far I'm really worried and wondering just quite how far he's going to be able to go before there are moves to stop him?

Before he was elected there was lots of 'don't worry he has to get through the house first' but he's done so much this week just because he wants to.

How much more?

He can't string a sentence together Out he's incapable of actually saying anything Confused

Somebody suggested that he has a disorder which prevents him from expressing himself properly. I can't remember the exact term.

Trainspotting1984 · 26/01/2017 18:32

Dictators all over the world have been doing awful things for hundreds of years and have rarely been stopped. Look at pol pot or Mugabe. No one stopped them, why walls they stop trump

Lorelei76 · 26/01/2017 18:32

One, POTUS effectively runs the world, it's fair enough to worry.

and TM is going to suck up to him as well. All this for trade. Economies built on people buying tat to keep exploding populations going. Joy.

I just hope the nuclear strike takes me out in one go. I wouldn't want to survive something like that. Well, I wouldn't really - if it all went to shit I'd finish myself off anyway.

fakenamefornow · 26/01/2017 18:33

what do you like?

CockacidalManiac · 26/01/2017 18:34

All this rubbish about 'taking back control', just to crawl up the arse of a demagogue.

Lorelei76 · 26/01/2017 18:35

x posting all over the place
no point comparing him to a dictator
he might not have won the popular vote but many many people voted for him
apparently many people were quite happy for him to be in power by not getting off their arse and voting
I am on a US website and there's a strong level of complete "Meh, won't make much difference" and I suspect there's a lot of Trump supporters who just don't want to discuss it. It's fine and dandy for a lot of people.
and again - the Dow Jones. Clearly many people happy with the Big Ol' Dump.

Natsku · 26/01/2017 18:35

Look at pol pot or Mugabe. No one stopped them, why walls they stop trump

Because, as bad as they were, they didn't threaten the future of the entire world.

CockacidalManiac · 26/01/2017 18:36

And the US has democratic checks and balances (I hope) that didn't exist in Cambodia or Zimbabwe

OneWithTheForce · 26/01/2017 18:38

No one stopped them,

Why is this? Why aren't we learning from history? Surely we have enough knowledge and experience to be able to plan our political structures in a way that prevents this happening. says I from the land of no current government: NI

True but there are other people down the line who physically pull the trigger so there are other humans in the chain.

However if that where to happen, essentially the military would need to stage a coup.

Out2pasture · 26/01/2017 18:43

I'm in favour of strong industrial jobs; I agree with new technologies and clean mining. I agree with the the US getting their nose out of other countries business. 1-1 trade deals will be better. Immigration worldwide needs to be reworked.

Trainspotting1984 · 26/01/2017 18:46

Natsku- who is going to stop trump? Which country/ group of countries do you reckon is going to commence air strikes, ground assult?

The best we can hope for is he'll be stopped by other Americans, who will stand up for what's right regardless of party politics

Natsku · 26/01/2017 18:50

Hopefully the rest of the American Government will stop him, as their Constitution is supposed to ensure. If not then all we can hope is that either pressure from the rest of the world, rioting from Americans, or a handy grassy knoll will stop him.

Not much.....You would have less than 3 mins before you watched your own shadow catch fire!

The U.K. Would surrender after approximately 3 missile strikes

I am British living in the US. Looking to do my citizenship this year. Trump hasn't done anything to worry me or my family yet.

Lorelei76 · 26/01/2017 19:00

Out2pasture - put that way, I see what you are saying - not saying I agree with it, but it's interesting to hear.

I don't really believe that he will create jobs. I would also be really interested to see who he has working in his own organisations. Whoever works for the lowest wage I guess.

Immigration needs reassessment yes, but not in the way he wants to do it.

It's his views on women and minorities and healthcare and guns that trouble me most. I also - admittedly am speculating - would imagine he won't care about workers' rights at all and will get the US to go even more "hey bend over and lube up, you're lucky to have a fucking job" even more than it already is.

Lorelei76 · 26/01/2017 19:01

PS i really have less than 3 minutes before I catch fire? That's good to know.

user1484596219 · 26/01/2017 19:01

I've solved 'The Wall' issue ..... The whole world club together and build the wall for Trump only it's built around the entire American border that way the Americans can be isolated and sealed in (like an Egyptian king) with their idiot president that THEY voted in and then they wont need to bother the rest of us normal civilised beings

EagleIsland · 26/01/2017 19:06

Lorelei76

As nuclear weapons have improved in design they have become harder to detect. The MOD believes that it has a 70% chance of being able to give the country a 3 minute warning

MrsDoylesTeabags · 26/01/2017 19:08

Haha good idea user although to be honest I can't see why anyone would want to visit there right now let alone choose to live there.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/01/2017 19:09

the US has democratic checks and balances

And thank god for them Smile

Let's face it, everyone who's newly elected starts off in a blaze of all those wonderful (or not) things they're going to do; it doesn't mean they'll actually do them, or that the system will let them even if they try

I appreciate this could change, but honestly don't feel there's any need for panic just yet

OneWithTheForce · 26/01/2017 19:10

Trump hasn't done anything to worry me or my family yet

You're either a rich white male or an ostrich .

Lorelei76 · 26/01/2017 19:11

Eagle - oh the 3 minute warning
so let's say for the sake of theory it hits central London, I'm about 14 miles away - will I be vaporised in 3 minutes or no? Because that definitely seems better than the alternative.

Lorelei76 · 26/01/2017 19:12

one "You're either a rich white male or an ostrich ."

or one of those types who believes wimmin belong in the kitchen - when they're not making behbez.

Out2pasture · 26/01/2017 19:14

My experience of large industrial sites (oil and gas, aluminium, nuclear power) are that the people are well trained and safety is a huge priority.
I'm pro choice, but think the us's views on family planning have no business in other countries. Local governments need to fund local choices.
Hopefully it's already mentioned upthread but the wall is already built with only a few sections missing.
