Bad hairdo

I decided to go a bit mad and try to get a fashionable hairdo.

I went from long, brown and curly to bleached and grey. It all went horribly wrong and my lovely curls were fried. I then decided to go even more mad and had the right side and back of my hair shaved so I have an undercut. The remaining left side is cut so that it is level with my ear. A very dramatic difference.

I really hate it, I'm freezing cold and feel stupid. I have been wearing a big slouchy hat a lot (I do wear this hat a lot anyway because I'm outdoors almost constantly). But, one day last week, it was a bit warmer and I decided to take the plunge and go to pick up DS from his primary school (he's only being going there since October) without the hat. There was one other lady who I have spoken to in the past and she looked at me wide eyed. I kind of did a rueful grin (like WTF was I thinking?!). Thought no more of it.

Now though, every time I see this lady, she looks embarrassed, looks away as quick as possible and won't smile! I'm pretty gobsmacked. Why would she act this way - it's only a bloody haircut?! Surely if it's that bad she should feel sorry for me, not blank me?

Maybe she thinks you are very not well and she doesn't know how to address it with you. The rueful smile may have cemented that thought. Going from long brown curly hair to half bald and grey must be quite substantial in the difference.

Wear it proud, maybe just tell her, you felt like a change.

I had a mishap over Christmas and had to have my hair cut shorter at the back. I've got a mid uplift hairpiece. 3/4 wigs are also good and clip in ponies very quick.

I'm sniggering a bit reading that, just picturing it now. . . . . .
She perhaps doesn't realise it's you, you know the old long brown curly you and just thinks a random woman with strange hair pulled a face at her. I sympathise, I too have corrected one horrible hair cut with a worse one before. It'll grow!

I do agree, she really may have assumed that you're sick.

Or simply felt super rude for looking\staring and is now embarrassed.

Well... going back to brown may help?

A fashionable hat? Hats can look really stylish and adorable imo. Or a nice turban maybe? There are actually very fashianforward options.

Undercuts are the worst thing U can do. I totally sympathise. I tried it in the 90's in a post punk crustie look. I looked fucking awful. lots of scarves/bandanas /hat's am afraid is in order. When the hair is at an acceptable length get the rest cut in a short style so it all grows back together.

I wish I had gone down the deadlocks route.

And the after. This was on a night out so I'd tried to make it as nice as possible. It's normally more frizz these days. Oh, and I have makeup on which I never wear normally.
