Bad hairdo

I decided to go a bit mad and try to get a fashionable hairdo.

I went from long, brown and curly to bleached and grey. It all went horribly wrong and my lovely curls were fried. I then decided to go even more mad and had the right side and back of my hair shaved so I have an undercut. The remaining left side is cut so that it is level with my ear. A very dramatic difference.

I really hate it, I'm freezing cold and feel stupid. I have been wearing a big slouchy hat a lot (I do wear this hat a lot anyway because I'm outdoors almost constantly). But, one day last week, it was a bit warmer and I decided to take the plunge and go to pick up DS from his primary school (he's only being going there since October) without the hat. There was one other lady who I have spoken to in the past and she looked at me wide eyed. I kind of did a rueful grin (like WTF was I thinking?!). Thought no more of it.

Now though, every time I see this lady, she looks embarrassed, looks away as quick as possible and won't smile! I'm pretty gobsmacked. Why would she act this way - it's only a bloody haircut?! Surely if it's that bad she should feel sorry for me, not blank me?

Just reread this,.. uhm, oops.

*the style you wanted to go for.

It's so cool and fresh!

BillSykesDog · 14/01/2017 11:34

Aphogee is good, I've used that. I have to say I tend to agree with Noeuf. You don't look like a loon but it doesn't look good so I think you should ignore the people telling you to stick with it because it looks great. Misguided kindness.

You still have a really pretty face even though your hair looks shit. Smile

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 14/01/2017 11:38

i think it's in such terrible condition the best thing to do is an Annie Lennox

and then get a badge with "No, it's just a crazy haircut" on it for that horrible hat.

but also don't go back to the brunette spiral perm look, we are not in the eighties anymore.

TheHiphopopotamus · 14/01/2017 11:46

I like the shaved bit too but the other side is too 'blocky' and blunt. Speaking from experience (I had a similar haircut), if you're wanting to grow it, I would suggest getting regular trims and asking your hairdresser to thin the ends out, getting rid of your fried bits, and maybe ask for it a bit longer at the front and a bit more shaped IYSWIM.

I looked like a very butch 80's lesbian for a while but when it started to grow, I ended up getting loads of compliments on it. The trick is to get it cut regularly though, so you don't get too fed up of the growing out stage.

BillSykesDog · 14/01/2017 12:02

It's not a spiral perm it's her natural bloody curl FFS! And FYI, perms are back in.

Fucking hell, aren't you a delight? Confused

The condition can be improved and newsflash: some people have curly hair naturally.

Pineapplemilkshake · 14/01/2017 21:23

I would secretly love an undercut but I can't as I'm expected to look reasonably conservative in my job! Could you get anything done to make the long bit less frizzy? I once bleached my hair and it looked a bit like straw but my hairdresser was able to do some treatment to improve the condition. I think if the long part was more like your original hair it would be lovely

SouthWestmom · 14/01/2017 21:32

Technically I thought an undercut was shaved hair under longer hair, otherwise it's just shaved.

KungFuPandaWorksOut16 · 14/01/2017 21:33

Hairdresser here.
It suits you, but they've done too much of a "blunt" cut. They should of added a few layers and not made it look so slap bang too your face.
You definitley Rock the look!
Just get a proper cut and it will look even better

CaraAspen · 14/01/2017 21:46

You have a nice face and smile. I prefer your hair short to the way it was originally. It is more youthful. As someone else has suggested let the longer side dry naturally!

neveradullmoment99 · 14/01/2017 21:56

I would definetly shave the other side and keep it longer on top. I like the middle picture on wittanks post. I think that would look great on you and would be easy to achieve.

sam2069 · 15/01/2017 16:45

Well first photo is dried naturally and second is my natural environment! You can really see my natural grey in this light. I match the hay lol.

Today I have bought the Lee Stafford stuff and some Bleach London colours (orange, violet and rose). Gonna have some fun!

Amusedbush...what is the special hair elixir of which you speak?

I can't open the link you posted for some reason and I definitely need some of your magic hair fixed in my life...

amusedbush · 15/01/2017 18:06

stumblymonkey

It's Lee Stafford stuff from Boots, it's in a round, hot pink tub and it's about £8 but it's usually on a deal.

I'd aim for a pixie as you suit the shaved side and it will rid you of the frizz/improve the condition and even up the balance a little - there seems too much hair dye to the frizz/blunt cut and it's making it all a little crazy

When it regrows, aim for your original intention

There's a thread about deep cleansing then washing with conditioner that may help with the condition

Can't help you with the parent avoiding you I'm afraid - says
more about her than you though!

The Bleach London colours are really good - I'll be honest though, I don't think they'll take on your hair. They could come out patchy because it's so damaged on that longer side.

Good luck with it though. Just embrace it, see what you can do with it and at least try getting some shape cut into it before you decide (if you do) to shave the lot off.

Fingers crossed for the colours working, I vote for the rose!

coughingbean · 15/01/2017 18:53

sam love love love the shaved side! it make yiu look younger and I just generally amazing!

coughingbean · 15/01/2017 18:54

very bad grammar, sorry!

coughingbean · 15/01/2017 18:54

very bad grammar, sorry!

sam2069 · 16/01/2017 13:45

Well the Lee Stafford stuff is bloody amazing! It has put the curl right back in at the roots with one treatment! I followed the instructions and washed it out after 5 minutes (I normally leave conditioner in). I then put my normal conditioner on and left it. That night it looked pretty pants as usual, but this morning? Hey presto, curls on my roots!
I've just washed it again (got covered in hay dust) and have put the Lee Stafford stuff on but this time I'm leaving it in. Thankyou so much amushedbush, genius x

Oh yay sam2069, I'm so glad! I'm sure I sound like I work for the company as I'm so evangelical about it but I promise that's not the case! Grin

I was gobsmacked when my ruined, fried hair curled after one treatment and I'm really happy that it's working for you too!

piknmixer · 18/01/2017 21:21

How did you get on with the colour @sam2069 ? Hope all is well and you're rocking pink or purple now!

rosenylund · 18/01/2017 21:43

I love it. honestly. Amazing bone structure. I have short hair and use this thing to keep it in check, really easy and versatile - straight and wavy

sam2069 · 20/01/2017 11:05

Sadly the colour won't take on my hair piknmixer Sad

I am currently looking at various forms of pixie cuts to try and take some of the weight out of my long side. Umming and ahhing. Hmm
