Bad hairdo

sam2069 · 13/01/2017 14:53

I decided to go a bit mad and try to get a fashionable hairdo.

I went from long, brown and curly to bleached and grey. It all went horribly wrong and my lovely curls were fried. I then decided to go even more mad and had the right side and back of my hair shaved so I have an undercut. The remaining left side is cut so that it is level with my ear. A very dramatic difference.

I really hate it, I'm freezing cold and feel stupid. I have been wearing a big slouchy hat a lot (I do wear this hat a lot anyway because I'm outdoors almost constantly). But, one day last week, it was a bit warmer and I decided to take the plunge and go to pick up DS from his primary school (he's only being going there since October) without the hat. There was one other lady who I have spoken to in the past and she looked at me wide eyed. I kind of did a rueful grin (like WTF was I thinking?!). Thought no more of it.

Now though, every time I see this lady, she looks embarrassed, looks away as quick as possible and won't smile! I'm pretty gobsmacked. Why would she act this way - it's only a bloody haircut?! Surely if it's that bad she should feel sorry for me, not blank me?

There are so many really cute and curly short undercuts imo. Have you googled them and tried something like that?

BillSykesDog · 13/01/2017 23:55

It's not that bad but it makes you look years older. Apparently rubbing your scalp with coconut oil makes it grow quicker. I rub it on my babies' head as well as my own and anecdotally it is working on all 3 of us. Also it can improve the condition if you rub it on the lengths. OGX Moroccan oil shampoo and conditioner are good too. Good ceramic straighteners with an ionising function are also good for frizz.

If you can use the longer bit to pull back and cover the front of the shaved bit you could get a 3/4 wig and they are easy to wear.

I don't know why she isn't talking to you, what a weirdo.

MitzyLeFrouf · 13/01/2017 23:56

Oh OP you've given me a good laugh. I started giggling when you followed 'it all went horribly wrong' with 'I then decided to go even more mad and had the right side and back of my hair shaved'. That well known method of fixing a bad haircut! Grin Grin

The Daily Mail sad hat face pic is particularly great.

I don't think your hair is awful or anything and it's certainly better than the hat look. Style it to the max, don't hide it away. Tell scared school mum that it's not contagious and that you won't be taking a clippers to her scalp.

MitzyLeFrouf · 13/01/2017 23:56

Your curls are lovely though...

BillSykesDog · 13/01/2017 23:58

Wow, just read how old you are. I thought in your before picture that you looked about 30 and about 38/39 in your after pictures so you have a few years to play with!

sam2069 · 14/01/2017 00:02

Lol BillSykesDog, bless ya

Your hair is a cracking colour to play with- but as it stands it's far too cold for you.

What about a rose gold or warm purples? If you're going to have statement hair you might as well go the whole hog!

NameChanger22 · 14/01/2017 00:15

The colour is fine, but it would probably look better a bright or pastel shade of pink or purple.

The cut, it will grow again.

user1471503992 · 14/01/2017 00:19

Maybe she thinks you have nits and she doesn't want to catch it.

Seriously though, get some spikey layers chopped into the long side and put some wax in it, it'll be cool!

user1471503992 · 14/01/2017 00:19

Catch them.

BadKnee · 14/01/2017 00:22

I have also just read your age. Bloody hell! You look great! I thought you were a good fifteen years younger than that.

sam2069 · 14/01/2017 00:22

NITS!!!! OMG hahahaha

That's funny, an old lady in the summer asked if I was my friend's Mum (we are the same age)!

Oh Sam! I'm curly and I wanted silver hair but I've settled for ash blonde. I've stopped bleaching now as it just wrecked my curls and I had a lot of breakage.

I'd recommend Olaplex. Get it on Amazon - the number 3 bottle it's about £20 (it's a very small bottle but on your length it should do you at least 6 treatments.

Use it every week - you should notice a big improvement after the first application. Leave it on for an hour. It should give you some decent curl back and improve the general condition. Osmo deep conditioners are great as well.

Your hair (sadly) looks completely fried to me in those photos.

I think short really suits you. I'd get a super choppy inverted v. short bob on the longer side, I think it would look ace.

Please though, no more permanent colour or bleach! You'd be looking at major breakage (if you haven't already got bad breakage) and you'll end up needing it cropped - though I think a crop would also suit you!

CateGory8 · 14/01/2017 00:30

You could try and do some loose curls using your straighteners. I think that would look great. I do agree with the pp that a bolder colour would look brilliant. I think you need to play it confidently and act like this haircut is exactly what you were aiming for. Play it up and not down, have fun with it.

piknmixer · 14/01/2017 00:34

Olaplex

Osmo deep repair mask

UniqOne shampoo (can be found for £6 in TKMaxx sometimes)

I'd swear by these products but everyone's hair is different. The Osmo conditioner you can buy in a small pot if you just want to try it. It's the best deep conditioner I've ever used.

And if you want to use straighteners/tongs, Wella Eimi Thermal Image is a great heat protector once you have improved the condition of your hair.

Bluntness100 · 14/01/2017 09:48

Well I just got up and saw this, it's not that bad. Ok it's not great but she's not thinking you are sick.

I don't think uou should shave the other side, but it needs more shape to it. 😃

Cary2012 · 14/01/2017 10:02

It looks much better than you think OP, you have lovely bone structure.

If it was me, I would leave it as it is if you possibly can for about six weeks, so the shaved hair grows, then I would have it all cut in a choppy pixie, I promise you, you have excellent features for a pixie. Then, lose the grey! Bleached blonde or a warm reddish chestnut looks lovely with that style.

You're a pretty girl, it'll grow, just stick it out for a few weeks and then start again.

When I fried my curls with bleach, I used this and after just one treatment, my hair was curly again! I was gobsmacked. I now have several tubs of it in the bathroom and use it once a week, and have done for three years now.

I can't recommend it highly enough. My hair was completely frazzled and it fixed it.

SouthWestmom · 14/01/2017 10:35

What are you all on?
It looks bloody awful op, you can't do something drastic half heartedly. Why did you go from girly and curly to something quite radical? Will the new cut suit your every day style (i.e. Get it tweaked) or is it a mistake you need to grow out?

I would get some product on the frizz, get it chipped into and maybe some pale highlights. Take the weight of it.

Or, if it's a mistake I'd get the length blended so the shaved bit can catch up and just grow it.

Luckily you are very pretty so can work this out.

statetrooperstacey · 14/01/2017 11:11

Clary I concede the first one is wearable and quite cute , but the second 2Shock bleurgh.
Anyway op get a slouchy hat. You can style this out if you cut off the droopy side, you can def pull off a very short cut, you have a lovely face.

MrsMeeseeks · 14/01/2017 11:22

I think the shaved bits look awesome but the remaining hair looks very overprocessed. I'd suggest getting rid of the lot. You are certainly striking enough to carry it off.

MrsMeeseeks · 14/01/2017 11:24

As for getting the curl back, you might want to try a hardcore protein treatment such as Aphogee 2-step.

ClaryIsTheBest · 14/01/2017 11:24

The styles you wanted to go for is awesome! Seriously, it's so cold and fresh. And I think it would really suit your bone structure!

@statetrooperstacey
The creamy, lacy tichel and the blue one? Well, it's all about taste, that's personal, right? I personally really like the cream one. Although I'd never wear a tichel or religious headscarf. I like wearing 'sexy' clothing and leather jackets and jeans way too much ;)
But I actually quite like the style Wink
