AIBU to wonder why nobody uses emojis on mumsnet?

Just that really! Emojis are everywhere and it just dawned on me there are so many yet everyone uses the few mumsnet ones. I'm still relatively new so many there's some code or something I'm missing? 😬🤔🤔

They look weird when used on forums.

They show up as squares if you don't have the right iOS/android. Plus this'll is not facebook.

Just curious as they do back up many words nicely, and people regularly use the mn ones! My 7 year old dd is obsessed with them and she knows nothing about Facebook so don't think they purely for use there!

They're a bit crap on here. On a website I used to frequent, you could use two footballs, a hot dog and a ghost to create a spunking cock and balls. It was rather handy as the site didn't allow swearing.

Way better that the the 'Here have my first that is endlessly parrotted on here.

It's annoyingly hard to add them
But I sometimes use my iPhone vocabulary to use an 📱 emoticon

I like the mumsnet ones because there's only a few and everyone knows what they're supposed to mean.

My phone had about 5 different variations of kiss, happy, sad etc. It's just daft.

Because there's not a single emoji ever created that I like more than I wish I could use it everywhere.

Because half the time I can't see the emojis other people have used...just a little box so I know something was there but have no idea what.
The other half the time, I can't post emojis from my ancient tech so I use the MN ones.

I also tend to look down on emojis as being part of Apple's creeping infantilisation of our culture

Yes. Emojis are the mark of the newbie and the netmum. It's frowned upon.
We used them a lot on certain threads when it became possible to use them on MN, then we almost forgot about them when the excitement abated.
