Just that really! Emojis are everywhere and it just dawned on me there are so many yet everyone uses the few mumsnet ones. I'm still relatively new so many there's some code or something I'm missing? Blush 😬🤔🤔

My mum sends texts that are more emoji than words. It might not be so bad, but they appear to be utterly random emoji and convey absolutely nothing useful. All it means is that her texts look ridiculous and are harder to read.

I couldn't see it as a tongue until you said it was one.

ListenIda · 06/01/2017 08:35

Because they make me want to say 'Are you not fluent in our Earthling tongue, alien visitors?'

It is a frilly square in the first post Trills. I am using a Kindle Fire BTW.

A lot of emojis look like rectangles with crosses in them to me, which clearly demonstrates that they aren't compatible across all devices. I don't have any Apple technology.

RedStripeIassie · 06/01/2017 08:43

Oh my God I love emojis and I have to show massive restraint to fit in on mumsnet!! Xmas Grin

I'm also well aware of my !!!! Issues as well! Wink

I will be trying out unborns beautys on my siblings this morning!

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 06/01/2017 08:45

Weirdly, when I came back to this thread the emojis were showing up "Twitter" style, but changed back to "Apple" style when I pressed refreshed.

I think if you're using a device or platform that can't "translate" most common emojis it's either time for an upgrade or time to accept that people are going to use the little buggers and you can't see them! 😁😘

PencilsInSpace · 06/01/2017 08:45

Because they are total wrongage and the MN ones are the bollox BikeTardisBearTorch

Also they don't load properly for some people so they just see a little squary thing.

Lweji · 06/01/2017 08:52

I've been on here for over 10 years, never been on any other forum, don't have Facebook or Twitter - so emojis aren't limited to newbies or Netmums!

I said they were a sign of the newbie and netmum, not that they were the only ones using it.
But the discerning veteran will know to limit their use only for jokes or emergencies. Grin

My Kindle Fire is the latest model Milk. I am not bothered about emojis anyway. I'm not a teenager.

soupplate · 06/01/2017 08:55

They take too long to work out if being used as an integral part of post - why not just use words. Except for Hmm best emoji ever and I have spent the last decade trying to train my actual face to replicate it. On some days it would be an almost permanent expression.

Ah. Nothing discerning about me at all. I admit that! 😁Grin* (Delete as appropriate)

I'm not a teenager.

Nor am I. What's your point?

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 06/01/2017 09:08

People on Mumsnet can be very resistant to change. I remember the hoopla that ensued when posters were given the ability to post photos. From the way some went on you'd swear the sky was about to fall in.

soupplate - I can replicate Hmm, it's one of the few things I'm proud of!

Dafspunk · 06/01/2017 09:10

I love an emoji story and congratulate myself every time I use a new one. It has to be in the correct context - no random pineapples, etc - and it's not allowed to make up stories, e.g. I hit a bumblebee in my racing car on my way to the anchor shop, just to get new ones in.

Them's the rules, the first being that we don't talk about emoji club. Obvs.

Sprink · 06/01/2017 09:14

Who wants to have to use a fecking Rosetta Stone when all we really want is to piss away some time on mumsnet?

The painting fingernails thing? No idea. Don't know, don't care, haven't got the time or inclination to find out. Hmm

happynewyearchum · 06/01/2017 09:19

Painting nails just means painting nails....
