elendon. You on the vino? Hmm

savedbythebell · 09/11/2016 13:21

The American voters had an appalling choice, but the thought of Trump having to talk and negotiate with other world leaders is going to show just how out of his depth he is. He certainly can't talk the talk that's for sure. I have absolutey no trust in the man, he's going to be an embarrassment to his country.

Elendon · 09/11/2016 13:21

Marine le Pen will never win. It won't happen. Europe is not as reactionary amongst the middle classes as the UK and the USA (and Australia).

Batteriesallgone · 09/11/2016 13:22

Elendon Somebody asked what are the objections to Clinton. I listed a few that I've heard from the demographic that voted Trump. Thought it might be relevant to the thread.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 09/11/2016 13:22

leapfrog Thank you. The words I have been searching for all morning!

FookinHell · 09/11/2016 13:22

Trump is a xenophobic, islamophobic, racist, misogynistic twit with no previous political experience. Hilary had her bad points too. But she was the lesser of two evils. Why on Earth did the American people vote Trump...disaster!

Putin seems chuffed...probably because he knows trump is a plonker and will bring America down. So Russia can rise.

Marynary · 09/11/2016 13:23

But finger pointing and accusations of stupidity don't get us any closer to understanding why we have this risky voting on both sides of the pond.

Whether or not we "finger point" or accuse people of stupidity will have zero impact on anything. Whether we understand why people voted for Trump will also have zero impact on whether or not he is power as apart from the fact that ship as sailed, as most posters on this thread don't even live in the US.

divineinterruption · 09/11/2016 13:24

This was us version of the brexit vote. Pure and simple. Isolationism and anti-immigration. I fear what is next. I want trump voters and leave voters to show that they care about fellow humans, theyre not guided by fear of the other and they want to build a country and world that works for all. Not just close borders and hope for the best. I worry for the world we live in and i hope to be proved wrong but somehow i dont think i will be.

LordRothermereBlackshirtCunt · 09/11/2016 13:24

I hope not Elendon, for selfish as well as ideological reasons (I am seeking French citizenship and would be very unhappy at losing my EU citizenship a second time due to Frexit).

But I don't think anything can be assumed in the current climate. The bookies are offering the same odds on Le Pen as they were on Trump last night.

Elendon · 09/11/2016 13:25

No Jess I'm not. Take it up with the president elect of the USA.

edition.cnn.com/2016/10/08/politics/trump-on-howard-stern/

Donald Trump has said he likes pussy. He is the president elect of the USA.

He also mocks disability. He is the president elect of the USA.

He has encouraged racism at rallies. He is the president elect of the USA.

Batteriesallgone · 09/11/2016 13:25

I should say what I understand to be the demographic that voted Trump. White middle class men and their (mostly SAHM) wives, averagely educated, in middle to high tiers of business. We heard the same things over and over. Not pro-Trump. Just vehemently anti-Hilary.

Bananabread123 · 09/11/2016 13:26

Marine le Pen will never win. It won't happen.

Liberals said the same about Trump for the past 18 months... they were wrong. I wouldn't rule anything out!

WrongTrouser · 09/11/2016 13:27

Maudlin re calling people stupid, racist and thick, I really don't think it is a straw man. Plenty of posters on this thread have made comments on these lines.

If it isn't a circular argument, then how do people come to hold the opinion that many leave voters, for example are R, S and T? It can't be demographics for education as the difference are not that huge (43% of graduates voted leave).

So how do people "know" this? And how do some people suddenly have the opinion that all remain voters are (insert list of positive attributes and values) and all leave are (insert negative list)?

How have they managed to divide people up in such a way that it perfectly maps onto how people voted in the referendum, if it wasn't by how they voted in the referendum?

How do we come to so suddenly have such an in depth insight into everyone's thought processes and psyche?

Elendon · 09/11/2016 13:27

I actually fear for those people living in the Baltic states at the moment. This is serious shit!

birdybirdywoofwoof · 09/11/2016 13:28

Putin will be thrilled- watch out gays, Russian opposition, Ukraine, the Baltic states, etc etc- putins gunning for you - and there's no one out there who can help.

shovetheholly · 09/11/2016 13:29

" It can't be demographics for education as the difference are not that huge (43% of graduates voted leave)."

Actually, they are quite significant, particularly for Brexit. See my post on the last page.

Elendon · 09/11/2016 13:30

Marine Le Pen has been hanging around the block for decades! It won't happen.

Besides when the French see how brutal the deal will be with UK leaving the EU, they will not want the same.

I think Putin will try it on in the Baltic states, but Nato will stop him doing anything, with vicious glares and muscle flexing. Then, getting nowhere he will annex Alaska. At that point Trump will have no option but to go to war.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 09/11/2016 13:32

Who wants Alaska?!

shovetheholly · 09/11/2016 13:32

elendon - have you seen the polls? Le Pen is doing exceptionally well at the moment (but a year is along time in politics).

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 09/11/2016 13:33

Europe is not as reactionary

look at the German local election

look at what is happening in Poland, France, Denmark, Austria,

the parties that are on the rise they are fascist parties not populist right wing parties

RepentAtLeisure · 09/11/2016 13:34

Not to mention Hillary got the support of most 'Vagina Voters'

Yes, those awful 'vagina voters' who didn't want to elect a woman-hating rapist.

Because if men were faced with the exact female equivalent of 'Trump' - a female candidate with no political experience whatsoever, who openly bragged about sexually assaulting men, along with other delights like being endorsed by the KKK, threatening to put segments of the population on a 'minorities' register, hadn't paid tax in decades, spent donations to her charity on herself, and put up a VP who believes that you can electro-chock children out of being gay - men would definitely vote for her, right? They wouldn't be spoilsport 'penis voters' and vote for someone just because they had a penis (and actual qualifications)?

Anyway, it doesn't matter. All that's left to do now is see if we need to be terrified, or if we can relax and take the piss for four years.

Southallgirl · 09/11/2016 13:34

the thought of Trump having to talk and negotiate with other world leaders is going to show just how out of his depth he is

I disagree, THIS will be the area in which he will be exceptionally good. This is a guy who holds on to his water.

Marynary · 09/11/2016 13:35

If it's not the fault of the educational system, then why are they 'uneducated'?

I said that it is not the fault of the current education system as most voters have left school.

The same thing happened with Brexit - I voted Remain, but was pretty disgusted at the use of 'racist' and 'thick' bandied about, not to mention ageist remarks when the results came through. Why is name-calling ok and acceptable if an electoral result displeases you, but not when it's done by a candidate?

Why is it unacceptable to think that someone is "racist" or "uneducated" if they express "racist" or "uneducated" views or vote for someone or a policy that does? People aren't "name calling" because an electoral result displeases them. They are giving their opinion because that is their opinion and they will have it whether they express it on here or not.
