Commenting that Trump won because he stirred the uneducated, racist, homophobic to vote (when normally they don't) is not equivalent to saying that some people shouldn't be allowed to vote.Hmm

AmyInTheBoonies · 09/11/2016 09:02

I just have that awful Brexit feeling again where the wrong side have triumphed. A victory for the bigots.

Plus it makes me so angry as it really seems like it was anyone but a woman. Sexism is so entrenched and unmovable. I can't bear to watch any news today it's too sickening.

growapear · 09/11/2016 09:03

How depressing. Thick hillbillies.

America has fulfilled its destiny as truly being the most uneducated country on earth

FFS. You go on about hate then spout this drivel....probably typed on a computer designed in the US, running software designed and written in the US, published on computer networks designed and built in the US, on a continent who's post WW2 security was guaranteed by the US.....and now they're all fucking idiot hillbillys. This is the real reason there is such a schism in politics just now, it's this imagined intellectual superiority of those on the left, who ironically are saying that the moral thing to do is elect candidates and maintain a political system that people think has failed them.

iveburntthetoast · 09/11/2016 09:03

I don't know where the Republic

areyoubeingserviced · 09/11/2016 09:04

They thought that Clinton was unfit for the job. However a racist, misogynist is deemed fit for the job?

Soubriquet · 09/11/2016 09:04

Saw this. Made me Grin

Trump has won 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
cdtaylornats · 09/11/2016 09:04

Lots of women must have voted for him so you can't blame sexism.

iveburntthetoast · 09/11/2016 09:05

Sorry! Pressed post too soon. My phone has lost the love plot & kdx

Destinysdaughter · 09/11/2016 09:05

If this is true, it's very chilling as it shows just how cynical Trump really is...

Trump has won 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Suppermummy02 · 09/11/2016 09:05

I guess that will teach women to know their place. When is Hillary going to prison?

mathanxiety · 09/11/2016 09:05

I agree with you Saoirse31.

A really poor selection to choose from.

Hiddenmnetter, I agree with you too.

It's not a good idea to cast everyone who voted for Trump into the 'stupid' corner (or into 'the basket of deplorables', to repeat a monumentally regrettable choice of phrase). This is not the way to move forward in the US. You have to respect that people in the aggregate possess and express wisdom at the polls, or else you should throw your hat at democracy.

You have to trust the constitution and the institutions of state that have lasted through a civil war and other major calamities to pull the US through and to pull the US together.

QueenLizIII · 09/11/2016 09:06

Well actually my old constitutional law lecturer actually said many years ago, the USA would never elect a woman as president and that they'd have a black president rather than a woman.

He said this is 2001. He was right when Obama was chosen instead of Clinton as candidate and right again now.

whyistherumgone · 09/11/2016 09:06

I'm gutted at the result but have to disagree with anyone calling those who voted for Trump 'stupid'.
Disillusioned, disenfranchised, angry...yes...

Trump winning is only part of the issue - it's how we got to this point in the first place too.

iveburntthetoast · 09/11/2016 09:06

I give up. My phone won't let me type anything about Trump.

Graphista · 09/11/2016 09:08

Re assassination I'm hoping he won't be obviously assassinated as

It'd turn him into a martyr and I wouldn't be at all surprised if it led to a hell of a lot of violence just short of a civil war

Mike pence is JUST as scary a prospect as president, he'd be less obviously a nightmare, but he's more sly.

It would turn people even more away from democrat party.

As for 'well democracy innit' I cannot think of one country in the world right now that has GENUINE democracy, USA were closer with obamas election but basically elections/leaderships are bought by the wealthy. In addition all supposedly democratic countries faff with the way the votes are interpreted. How many people eligible to vote ACTUALLY voted for brexit? For the tories? For trump?

I would be very interested to see actual numbers ie how many people voted for trump v Clinton v others? Remove all the electoral college statistical manipulation crap.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 09/11/2016 09:08

He has the power to do that, toast Grin

GinAndTunic · 09/11/2016 09:08

Ironically, I thought Clinton a better candidate than Obama eight years ago. If she had been elected then, I doubt that Trump would have been elected just now.

rawsienna · 09/11/2016 09:10

Wodner how nicola will keep him out of Scotland now Grin

BipBippadotta · 09/11/2016 09:11

Gin also agree re: 2008

Elendon · 09/11/2016 09:11

He might well prove to be the most liberal of Republicans in all the history of America.

I hope he is. His speech was good and I hope he does bring about changes to education, health and spreads the wealth.

I also hope he does this soon. Then perhaps, world leaders will take him seriously. He doesn't stand alone.

areyoubeingserviced · 09/11/2016 09:12

I truly hope so Elendon

rawsienna · 09/11/2016 09:15

I think he'll do a good job.
Nice is all very well. But nice doesn't always get the job done.

You can have a president who everyone, loves, who turns out ineffectual.

I know which I'd prefer.

novelsandnaps · 09/11/2016 09:15

cdtaylor I have to disagree, just because women voted for him doesn't make him any less sexist, if anything it makes them complicit (although I accept many may vote for policies over personalities) We need to stand up to blatant sexists in today's world if anything is going to change, but clearly that hasn't happened.

Cguk81 · 09/11/2016 09:15

It's just awful. I hope he has some strong switched on people pulling his strings once he is in power. Putin will try and play him like a banjo.
