Creepy Clowns

I am genuinely worried about these people dressing up as clowns and think something nasty might happen.

Is it just me?

Our local Police have circulated a warning to all school children that they face serious consequences if they are found to be harassing people. There have apparently been incidents with someone dressed as a clown. The notice also warns that 'Clown hunting' will not be tolerated either.

What a weird world we live in!

abbinob · 12/10/2016 10:11

There was one hanging around outside my flat and chased a teenage girl down the underpass yesterday apparently.
I would go absolutely ape shit if one of these dickheads jumps out at me if I have ds with me. I don't care if they're just teenagers messing about, it's fuming stupid. what happened to scaring your friends not random kids.

I have anxiety too so I can't help but worry that some weirdo will use the clown excuse to be lurking around with a mask and a weapon and actually hurt someone.

PikachuSayBoo · 12/10/2016 10:15

Someone's been fined £90 for being dressed as a clown.

Which sounds harsh to me as I never thought it was illegal. I'm not condoning twatty clowns at all but he didn't do anything apart from hang about, admittedly near a school. But he's been done for some public order offence I think. From what I read he didn't chase anyone, didn't have a knife.........

daisypond · 12/10/2016 10:35

And the one I read about yesterday chasing people on a university campus with a working chainsaw (buzzing, with the motor on) has been arrested:

I think something bad will happen, and it already has. A pregnant woman went into premature labour. I'm 6 months pregnant and rang my husband going out of my mind with back ache - he told me to go for a walk but as it's getting dark, take my engagement ring off and the first thing I thought of was being mugged by a clown! It's bad.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 12/10/2016 20:07

Helena. Ha! It was going to happen at some point.... Grin

HelenaDove · 12/10/2016 20:13

I wonder what Batman looks like under his costume Smile Blush

Ilovenannyplum · 12/10/2016 20:25

Oh ffs. Ones been arrested literally round the corner from me Angry

HelenaDove · 12/10/2016 20:30

Re the Batman thing. the company doing it is Cumbria Superheroes not My Superheroes who are trying to take the credit.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 12/10/2016 20:45

helena. I imagine he looks a bit sweaty, tbh.....

jamdonut · 12/10/2016 21:39

When I went into school this morning, a bunch of year 6 girls were getting hysterical about clowns, and the fact that one had been spotted in a nearby town. I spent about 20 minutes trying to calm them down and reassure them that nothing truly bad was about to happen - that some people thought it was funny to give others a scare, but that they could be arrested for doing it!
It's all very well the media making a big thing out of it, but now it's been drawn to the attention of children. It's horrible.

I keep my beating stick in my car, for when I'm beating on pheasant shoots. It's a nice big stick. Those clowns piss me right off. Wouldn't need much of an excuse to hit one hard if it even thought of coming anywhere near me.

HelenaDove · 13/10/2016 01:05

The link is about a young lad who was assaulted by one of those twunts and has ended up in hospital with a head injury.

HelenaDove · 13/10/2016 02:28

Joiner suffers permanent damage to hand because of a "clown" wielding a knife.

PikachuSayBoo re "Someone's been fined £90 for being dressed as a clown....Which sounds harsh to me"

Does it really? Causing anxiety and public disorder, waiting police time while they have to chase a lot of twats in masks. I think £900 would be more like it.

If people put themselves out there dressed as clown how does the public know it is just some wanker in a costume who gets his fun from intimidating women and children, or is it someone who might throw a log at a child's head and cause them to have stitches, or perhaps the one who threatened to rape a thirteen year old and slit her throat.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-37634853

If the police do not take this seriously then I think we will have vigilante's.

Put the fuckers in prison.

Italiangreyhound · 13/10/2016 03:05

And you don't just get to say sorry after running about with a chain saw.

These people need to be punished.

madparent1 · 13/10/2016 11:47

Amazing how a bunch of idiots (and I include the media) can create such angst!

sportinguista · 13/10/2016 13:03

I thought DS hadn't noticed it but one of his little friends had talked about it yesterday.

It was on Newsround and I think they did a good piece to reassure kids about what they are seeing especially with regards to you tube etc.

I just told him that it wasn't anything to worry about and if he sees anything to tell an adult and that it is just some very silly people.

To be honest it's all got very out of hand.

Italiangreyhound · 13/10/2016 16:13

madparent I am not sure how much you think the media is responsible for a boy needing stitches or a girl of 12 being threatened with rape, do you mean because they reported on these things?

I rarely watch the news on TV, never buy newspapers and only listen on the radio (which doesn't seem to mention it). I heard about it on Mumsnet and say other clips on line, plus people are talking. I don;t think this is just about people who fear clowns. I don't have a clown phobia but some have been carrying actual weapons.

Italiangreyhound · 13/10/2016 16:25

sorry, girl of 13

HelenaDove · 13/10/2016 21:31

YY Greyhound. I have heard ppl saying that nasty fuckers will don clown costumes as a disguise so they can deliberately do something nasty.

But the links show that is already happening.

Sunshineonacloudyday · 13/10/2016 22:10

I thought my daughter was joking about the killer clowns????
