Creepy Clowns

I am genuinely worried about these people dressing up as clowns and think something nasty might happen.

Is it just me?

OP posts:
capricorn12 · 10/10/2016 23:21

I may take to walking round armed with a custard pie.

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 10/10/2016 23:26

Whaaaat? This is a thing? No. I can't handle clowns. Why would you post this so late at night?!

I've never heard clowns being discussed so seriously before. And I really don't like it.

DramaInPyjamas · 10/10/2016 23:28

Why would they stop after Halloween with clowns though?
Killer santas at Christmas
Easter bunnies at Easter etc etc

Idiots are idiots all year round.

Pseudonym99 · 10/10/2016 23:29

This happens every few years. Don't worry about it. It'll blow over.

TrionicLettuce · 10/10/2016 23:32

How many of these photos and videos are genuine though?

Plenty being circulated are recycled photos from the spate of clown sightings in 2013/2014.

A photo of a supposed sighting tonight in London was put up on FB couple of hours ago. The photo was actually lifted from any one of many news articles (such as this Huffington Post one) from 2013 about some tit dressed up as a clown to freak people out in Northampton.

I've seen the photo from this 2014 article used as proof of a sighting this evening in Manchester.

I'd hazard a guess that there are more people enjoying stirring up hysteria on FB (or getting their names in the local newspaper) than there are dressing up as clowns and terrorising people on the streets.

WorraLiberty · 10/10/2016 23:34

If any clowns jump out on me, they're getting a dick kick.

Don't give a fuck how old they are, or why they chose to hang around in the dark, dressed as a clown, trying to scare people.

madein1995 · 10/10/2016 23:38

Mixed feelings here. People in mothers place told her and scared her (she's a worrier at the best of times) me I'm not too bothered. My local police force have said it's about people dressing up and scaring people (and warning them of consequences) so while it's not nice there's not been any attacks that I've heard of. My reasoning is that it doesn't matter if a person is wearing a clown outfit or a suit it's the same person inside, so in my relatively small area it's not more dangerous than before. It's exactly the same people as I see day in day out, and I don't feel the level of risk has risen. Mostly stupid teenagers thinking they are funny. I'm sure not all reports are true either - they appear on those made up facebook groups where everyone seems incapable of using capitals or spell properly and the suitable response to seeing someone in a clown outfit is 'to kick his head in' not report to the police. I don't think there's anything to worry about op, these people are the same as ever, their clothing makes them no more dangerous. Let's be honest if it was teens going out with small blades in hoodies would it feature in the evening news? It's because of what they're wearing they're on there, when what they're wearing makes them no more or less dangerous to the public. That said, any idiot who does try and scare people In this way ought to be punished. I'm sure it's a public order offence or something

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 10/10/2016 23:39

worra. Me too. They are taking a hell of a risk as far as I'm concerned. They think they can frighten the crap out of people and nobody will retaliate? Good luck to that way of thinking. If anyone tries this on DS or I, they'll regret it.

WorraLiberty · 10/10/2016 23:41

Sage advice Grin

If a woman was carrying a knife or something else because she was scared of her ex she would be prosecuted for carrying an offensive weapon.

So why arent these twonks dressed as clowns facing the same!

hollinhurst84 · 10/10/2016 23:55

Yes I rang 101
They stood there and when I didn't look at them they shouted. I looked up and asked if they had nothing better to do, then they ran off Hmm
I heard one of them say "what did she do when she looked up?"
So I imagine the other went "er. Nothing" and they sloped back off home

Cococrumble · 11/10/2016 00:12

One of our towns soft play areas was targeted this afternoon by a clown with a fake slit throat, waving a knife around in the car park as children were leaving the afternoon session.

There is absolute uproar locally, people are going to end up retaliating and things are going to get out of hand very quickly I think!

avamiah · 11/10/2016 00:17

Did you all read that Stephen King even posted on twitter that it was getting out of hand.
It must be serious for him to say calm down as he wrote the book with the Clown in.

Janey50 · 11/10/2016 00:20

I saw something on FB this evening saying that one had been seen on a uni campus in Uxbridge, carrying 'what looked like a chainsaw',but they were not certain. This has worried me as Uxbridge is not that far from where I live.

avamiah · 11/10/2016 00:22

It was the film "It"

trashcanjunkie · 11/10/2016 00:31

Haven't read the full thread but where I live the 'killer clown hit list' has named my twins school. This was reported by the local press. Police have issued a statement saying there's no credible threat but notwithstanding have increased their patrols. It then creates massive drama which feeds the damn thing. Any reports I've read of previous clown arrests have been teens. They're going to ruin their own lives as well as traumatising children. It's so rubbish!

RockinHippy · 11/10/2016 00:39

Someone I know was jumped out on by one this week, it frightened the life out of him & as a reflex action, he punched it hard - cant say I blame him really. I don't have a clown phobia, but have friends who suffer badly & as pranks go, its a step too far

avamiah · 11/10/2016 00:45

Imagine whats going to happen on Halloween.
I can honestly say that i have never had a trick or treater(Clown)ever and i don't want one.

HelenaDove · 11/10/2016 00:45

If a man comes at me with a knife (i dont give a fuck how hes dressed) i will expect the police to take it seriously.

Mummylin · 11/10/2016 00:45

It is reported in my local paper that someone has been attacked here by a clown.

Story Here

frikadela01 · 11/10/2016 00:57

There was one stood on my mil street last night holding what looked like a knife.
Thing is take away the clown and what you have is people concealing their identity in an attempt to intimidate people. If it were teens in balaclavas following people home or jumping out on people whilst appearing to have weapons then I imagine the response by those on authority would be very different

HelenaDove · 11/10/2016 01:03

frika i totally agree. I hope the fact that they are in clown costumes isnt going to be used as a "get out" clause.

trufflehunterthebadger · 11/10/2016 01:04

We had dozens of jobs with fucking clowns tonight (police). Every other call seemed to be clowns. Frightening kids, old people, carrying knives . Cant wait for halloween late shift Angry

HelenaDove · 11/10/2016 01:09

I wasnt having a go Truffle. I do realize it is a right PITA for those dealing with it head on.

HelenaDove · 11/10/2016 01:12

I walk everywhere to keep my weight down and stay fit. I wont be getting cabs and buses everywhere.

a, i cant afford to.
b. for the other reason stated above.

When a woman gets a knife pulled out at her by a man we fear being raped and killed.
