To not wear clean clothes everyday

Happyhippy45 · 10/10/2016 16:47

Clothes are not "dirty," they don't smell and I don't want to wash them. I hang them up on a peg/chair to air and wear another couple of times over the course of the week.
DH doesn't understand this and thinks it's a bit minky.
Talking about tops, jeans etc......not pants and socks. Bras are a whole nother subject.

I wear the same pair of socks for weeks. They can stand on their own.

Happyhippy45 · 10/10/2016 23:52

When I was 15 my dad bought a tumble dryer.....he made us look at the electric meter turning.....to show how quickly it turned. That was in the 80s
Obviously this has stuck with me.
Add in, washing shit that isn't dirty.....ffs. Stupid and a waste of my energy and electricity.
Don't get me started on ironing

Do you have a 4x4 too? I don't. Sorry to disappoint, you could have got a whole load more insults in there as well.

Salmotrutta · 10/10/2016 23:53

Oh Meadows - poor you.

Yes you own the tumble dryer.

I own a tumble dryer - but I try to save energy by only using it in the depths of winter when there is limited daylight/low temperature etc.

On other days I hang washing out.

To save energy.

thenightsky · 10/10/2016 23:54

Having just come home from spending a few week living with my friend in Tanzania, I'm now converted to wearing my clothes for a hell of a lot longer than 2 days.

Salmotrutta · 10/10/2016 23:57

I genuinely don't understand people who resolutely refuse to listen to the news, read advice etc. about wasting energy.

Either they don't think it applies to them (how stupid) or they don't believe fossil fuels are running out and that burning them contributes to climate change (how stupid).

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 10/10/2016 23:57

thenightsky. Your comment should be a diplomatic and relevant thread-ender but somehow I suspect it won't be...

avamiah · 10/10/2016 23:58

I have a garden, and don't have a washing line.
I haven't got time to hang out washing.
I'm a working mum not Mary Poppins.

Meadows76 · 11/10/2016 00:00

I'm so damn entitled. Single handedly using up the entire supply of the worlds remaining energy. Simply because I choose to use my tumble dryer. Maybe I could pay back some of that energy by being careful in other areas of my life. Or maybe I am just a twat after all. Who knows? Oh yes, that's right, you don't!! Just because I use my fucking tumble dryer, to you know, dry my clothes (I think that's the idea of the things?) does not mean I am entitled, or a twat, or anything else. Because you have no fucking idea what I do in other parts of my life so you can all take your judgey comments and hang them out to dry.

Salmotrutta · 11/10/2016 00:00

I'm not really known for diplomacy ItShoukdHaveBeenJess - I don't get too riled up that often on MN but this thread...

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 11/10/2016 00:01

meadows. I guess it depends on how often you use the tumble dryer. Daily does seem a bit excessive.

Salmotrutta · 11/10/2016 00:02

I don't think I called you entitled or a twat.

I do think it's very selfish to just shove on a tumble dryer without thinking about planetary resources though.

Meadows76 · 11/10/2016 00:04

meadows. I guess it depends on how often you use the tumble dryer. Daily does seem a bit excessive.. I don't remember saying I used it daily? In fact I'm sure I didn't, I don't use my washing machine or tumble dryer daily, I have a life outside of my kitchen

Meadows76 · 11/10/2016 00:05

I don't think I called you entitled or a twat I don't think I said you did?

avamiah · 11/10/2016 00:12

Meadows76,
"I have a life outside of my kitchen"
Hahaha,
That is hilarious.
I've bloody forgotten the OP.
haha

I used to work in an area of Central London well known for being a hub for Australians. Judging from the body odour I experienced in many pubs and bars not all Australians are as fastidious as Cacofonix husband.(great username BTW).

ItShouldHaveBeenJess · 11/10/2016 00:15

meadows. 'So you can all take your judgey comments and hang them out to dry'

C'mon! Was that deliberate? If so, I offer you a handshake. If not, eh, it's late. Maybe I have tumble dryer envy (my pjs are always sooo cold lately)

NeedABanner · 11/10/2016 00:17

Everything except jeans & cardigans/jumpers get washed after one wear. (I'd no sooner wear a bra twice than I would knickers)

Jeans - sometimes one wear, but mostly after a couple/few.

Cardigans rarely. I don't tend to wear them often/for long so they get washed when they feel like they've been hanging around for a bit 😁

Shower at least once a day, usually twice, occasionally more.
Bed changed twice a week minimum.
Towels 2/3 showers.
Tea towels washed separately.
Don't own anything that's 'Dry clean only' anymore

Don't have a tumble dryer.

Only iron bedding & tea towels - very, very occasionally a shirt.

I think that answers all the usual follow on questions 😂

rosesandcashmere · 11/10/2016 00:23

I work in the City, shower and wash my hair every morning and often again at night (the tube makes me feel grubby) undies obvs clean daily, stockings, skirts, trousers, camisoles and tops also clean daily. Suit jackets - dry clean only, a weeks wear a time but on and off. I feel grubby going into the centre of London despite looking smart! Weekends are different, jumpers twice or so, jeans at least 3 wears (unless I get curry down them which happens often)

avamiah · 11/10/2016 00:30

rosesandcashmere,
I made this point earlier .

Liiinoo · 11/10/2016 00:33

OH rosesandcashmere. I know what you mean about the tube. Normally I only shower in the morning or if I've been exercising but if I've been on the tube I have to head straight upstairs and shower as soon as I come in

Anything that touches bum or armpit flesh is worn once. Jeans and sweaters 2/3 times. PJs 3-4 days. Towels and sheets are washed about every 10 days.

I don't think DH realises towels and bathrobes need washing. If I didn't do them he'd still be using the ones he got out at the turn of the century. DDS on the other hand firmly believe in the washing fairy. They would get home from school, change into a top for 3/4 hours and then chuck it in the laundry. I would fish it out, put it on a hanger and they were never any the wiser.

DDS are grown up now and DD1 is living at home while she saves for a flat. Her (v nice) boyf stays once or twice a week. It recently dawned on me that every time he stays over he puts the towels he has used in the washing. Very tidy but this isn't a 5 star hotel. So now those towels get fished out, folded and hung on the radiator in her bedroom.

imnotreally · 11/10/2016 00:36

I think it possibly makes a difference if you live in the city or the country. When you've been in the city all day your clothes are mingling.

I don't wash after one wear but I have a question for those that do - how do you afford the clothes? Because I find washing and drying very quickly wears clothes out. Or is there a trick that I'm missing?

avamiah · 11/10/2016 00:41

imnotreally,
It depends what temperature you wash and dry on.

heron98 · 11/10/2016 06:18

YANBU if they don't smell but you must be a very unsweaty person or very sedentary. My clothes are always a bit whiffy at the end of the day.

missm0use · 11/10/2016 06:23

I wash clothes after one wear - I also have an 8 month old DD doing baby lead weaning and I am her canvas! I NEVER have clean clothes on!Confused

Before the weaning think I'd wear stuff till it was actually dirty or I'd worn it about 5/6 days and was starting to smell.
Sometimes I've even been know. To wear the same socks 2 days in a row!!ShockShockWink
