AIBU?

To not wear clean clothes everyday

Happyhippy45 · 10/10/2016 16:47

Clothes are not "dirty," they don't smell and I don't want to wash them. I hang them up on a peg/chair to air and wear another couple of times over the course of the week.
DH doesn't understand this and thinks it's a bit minky.
Talking about tops, jeans etc......not pants and socks. Bras are a whole nother subject.

I never wear my tops twice. I always seem to spill something. Trousers and PJ's I don't wash every day.

My kids are such a PITA they put absolutely bloody everything in

Trousers, t shirts, cardigans get worn a couple of times here. But work tops/shirts and dresses get washed after every use as I will have been wearing them for at least 10 hrs/day plus commute. No way can I wear those again, they do smell a bit of BO by the end of the day.

Clean body, clean clothes

Yes. But I don't think me wearing something for a day automatically renders it dirty.

I RE wear jeans/trousers, but wash tops/dresses after one wear.

All dd's clothes need to be washed after one wear as they get covered in food/dirt. I wish she was less of a mucking puppy.

Everything gets worn once before being laundered and whilst I say its because of where I live, the temps are very high, I have to admit I also just wear things once when in the Uk. I think it all just looks nicer.

Well at what point does it become dirty? Or too dirty to wear again? Assuming there is in fact a clean--> dirty continuum, people just vary the point at which they think it is too dirty to wear. Before the smoking ban, as far as I was concerned anything worn inside a pub was filthy after about 2 seconds. If my neighbour's dog jumps on me as I leave the door then muddy pawprints mean my jeans are dirty. But IMO wearing something for 12 hours does not automatically mean it's not clean enough to be worn again.

I could just assume that as soon as my skin touches something it's not clean and be in a perpetual state of getting changed. Or I could decide 4 hours is the cut off. Or 8. Or 12. Or I could decide that clean is a relative state and that if it's not stained or smelly it's fine. I prefer the last.

Clean underwear/socks daily. Work trousers I make last two days (say a Monday and then wear again Thursday). Work cardigans as per the trousers. Work shirts (short sleeved m and s type), changed daily. Jeans, I'll get three days out of. Casual t.shirts etc, changed after one wear. I'm working from home tomorrow so will just chuck on the tracksuit bottoms I wore for half a day yesterday.

Ok whatever. But I am never going to get out of the shower and out on previously worn clothes whether the fit into the clean, almost clean or minging category. For me I wear clean, laundered clothes every day

Apparently in the post war era shirts were worn for a whole week before being washed. I'm sure many mumsnetters would feignt at the thought of this.

Jeans will get a few wears, leggings and tops will get washed after every wear. Jumpers or cardigans probably get a few wears.

Pants and socks are changed daily, (don't ask about bras Blush) everything else I get 2 days wear from unless it's physically dirty or I've been particularly sweaty. I can just about keep on top of laundry in the summer when I can out things out on the line but now it's colder a load of washing fills the airer and takes at least a day and a half to dry, I'd never get to the bottom of the washing basket if I changed clothes daily!

At the very least. Then again, if you don't have a washing machine, I suspect wearing things for a day or two longer, rather than having to handwash, starts to look a whole lot more attractive. Clean is a relative term.

Everybody smells, it's what they smell of that's the problem. The people I notice most when out and about are the ones that smell of really bad BO or a lot of (often cheap) perfume. Neither is pleasant. But most people just smell human, which is fine, so long as it's not too strong. Where I live it's often human, plus maybe a bit of farm animal, which I also don't mind.

But really strong perfume, or fag smoke, or perfume in an attempt to disguise fag smoke? Bleurgh. Bleurgh and headache.

As long as they don't smell then it's all good and makes sense! I reuse tops and trousers over several days whereas DP doesn't reuse tops as he sweats a lot. Never reuse underwear. I wear bras for about a week. It just depends on the person and the smelliness...

"For me I wear clean, laundered clothes every day"

Very wasteful of your own time and the planet's resources.
Also, I bet you don't change coat every day so why would you change other outerwear such as a jumper?

Everything gets washed after one wear with jeans/outerwear being the exception especially the dc's uniforms. You can smell tge difference when stood beside someone and it is most unpleasant.

Also, I bet you don't change coat every day so why would you change other outerwear such as a jumper?. As it happens I rarely wear a coat, usually for 10 mins morning and afternoon when I get out of the car at school drop off/pick up. If I'm in town or supermarkets in winter I don't wear a coat as its warm in the car and warm in the shops.

Possibly 2 wears out of jeans. Everything else is washed after one wear. Kids stuff never gets worn more than once but it's rarely clean enough anyway.
The washing pile is never ending. Some days I have to do 4-5 loads Confused

Hmmm. Anything that has become marked or worn close to the skin has to be washed after wearing, surely?! With the exception of costs and thick jumpers surely that is everything?

Report
Theladyloriana · 10/10/2016 22:28

Got to reiterate to those who say 'as long as it doesn't smell...'

You are unlikely to be able to smell it.

T shirts, pants, socks washed daily. Bras every couple of days. Jeans once a week. Jumpers likewise depending on material.

I couldn't afford to have all those trousers/jeans for a clean pair every day for work. 2 days black trousers they don't smell. My tops just don't look nice worn twice

So those of you who are washing everything after only one wear - how do you find the time? Are you not washing/ironing every spare minute?
Do you not have more enjoyable/ useful stuff you'd rather be doing? ConfusedSmile
I'm in the underwear and socks everyday,jeans/ trousers a couple of days,T shirts and work tops - depends on how hot it's been group.
But threads like this make me come over a bit "and if you can smell someone? Just a bit? Not exactly the end of the world,is it?"
Disclaimer: not talking about rank uncleanliness here, just low level stuff.

So those of you who are washing everything after only one wear - how do you find the time? it takes less than 2 minutes to put a load into the washing machine, same with transferring it to the tumble dryer. As for ironing, skinny jeans, leggings and most tops can be hung straight from the dryer, shirts need an iron so I do them once a week, doesn't take long
