...to listen to Stevie Nicks?! I've just 'discovered' her and I'm in love already. How have I gone this long not knowing she exists?

What songs/albums should I be listening to?

Bella Donna for an album and Edge of Seventeen for a song. Agree your friends and family should have introduced you to Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac earlier - she & they made their mark on an era just as much as Abba or the Eagles.

wasonthelist · 09/09/2016 14:17

I like the Buckingham Nicks album as well as loads of the Fleetwood Mac stuff - not so much a fan of her later stuff although she is a phenomenal talent IMHO.

Thank you! I'm sending my dad a strongly worded text message now Wink

I remember 'discovering' Fleetwood Mac. I was a teenager and said to Mum 'Ooh, you'll just love this song! It's called Dreams by The Corrs'.

Mum spluttered her way to the CD player and said 'Sweetheart, this is Dreams'. Playing the Rumours album that day had such an effect on me, it's still a great favourite of mine.

powershowerforanhour · 09/09/2016 14:29

I didn't know the Corrs didn't write Dreams Blush. Am playing Stevie Nicks original now, first time I've heard it. She's got a great voice hasn't she? Thanks OP!

BlueLeopard · 09/09/2016 14:34

Ahhh I loved Stevie Nicks & Fleetwood Mac. Knocks socks off the tuneless girlband type singers we get these days!

LozzaChops · 09/09/2016 14:35

Rumours is one of the greatest albums ever ever ever ever ever, enjoy.

Stevie Nicks is one of my favourites. Rooms on Fire was always on my walkman when I was growing up. I love all the FM stuff as well.

Lolloveswoody · 09/09/2016 14:39

Everything by Stevie Nicks is worth listening to. Rumours is probably my favourite album of all time.

SirChenjin · 09/09/2016 14:42

Stevie is my hero - I used to dress like her in my younger days and know all the words to her songs and to FMs. My favourite singer (and band) of all time.

oldlaundbooth · 09/09/2016 14:43

I thought the same thing about Led Zeppelin.

What the hell, people?!

Mouikey · 09/09/2016 14:44

If you like stevie Nicks watch American horror story (coven) as she is in a few of the episodes. Also watch sound city (documentary by Dave Grohl) as she is also in that 😊

SirChenjin · 09/09/2016 14:46

Can I just do a shameless thread derail and wee plug for my second favourite singer of all time, 'cos like you OP, thought 'why did no-one tell me how amazing this man is' - I give you the multi-talented Richard Hawley and my fave song of his

ElsaMars · 09/09/2016 14:46

I discovered her late too after watching American horror story Coven (she's in it and sings a couple of her songs) I have also converted 3 year old DD too who loves Bella Donna and also a bit of FM, particularly The Chain Grin

MitzyLeFrouf · 09/09/2016 14:54

I'm playing Rhiannon right now. Love this song.

SweetChickadee · 09/09/2016 14:58

DH is a big fan. Seen FM live a couple of times, they are fab

trafalgargal · 09/09/2016 15:04

I love it when people talk about a new song and you remember the original.
Boyzone's version of Love me for a reason was a phrase by phrase lift of the original by the Osmonds, they could have at least changed the arrangement lazy gits.

Fontella · 09/09/2016 15:06

I didn't know the Corrs didn't write Dreams

They didn't only not write it ... they murdered it!!

MitzyLeFrouf · 09/09/2016 15:08

The Corrs also ruined Thin Lizzy's Old Town.

Fontella · 09/09/2016 15:09

Favourite Stevie Nicks ....

Gold Dust Woman (Fleetwood Mac)
Landslide (Fleetwood Mac)
Leather and Lace (with Don Henley of The Eagles).
Stop Dragging My heart around (with Tom Petty) - below ....

Lolloveswoody · 09/09/2016 15:09

I was late discovering Pink Floyd, I remember wondering how the hell I'd managed to miss them and being quite cross with my DM who I thought had given me a pretty comprehensive musical education Blush Can't complain too much though when Rumours was the soundtrack to blissful childhood holidays Smile

BeMorePanda · 09/09/2016 15:11

Rumours is a perfect album. Every beat and breath of it.
"Edge of Seventeen" about the death of her nephew I believe - the tension and beauty in it.

Congrats on your discovery OP!!

Fontella · 09/09/2016 15:11

The Corrs also ruined Thin Lizzy's Old Town

Yep. They did. Absolutely murdered it.

But worse still with the so called Bowie tribute Andrea Corr did with Gary Kemp at the Isle of Wight festival. I saw it on youtube or somewhere and that was bad enough but my son was there and said it was toe-curling!

BeMorePanda · 09/09/2016 15:14

ooh Tom Petty is the perfect counterpart to her vocal!!
Blasting it now.
