...to listen to Stevie Nicks?! I've just 'discovered' her and I'm in love already. How have I gone this long not knowing she exists?

What songs/albums should I be listening to?

The Shires did a great Fleetwood Mac cover at Larma Tree last year

woodhill · 09/09/2016 19:35

Yes and songbird is on Rumours. I remember arguing with another parent who insisted it was Eva Cassidy's song and looked at me like I was mad when I mentioned Fleetwood Mac

I love the Greatest Hits album.

woodhill · 09/09/2016 19:36

The Chain is amazing. I love Rumours and used to play it in the car to my Dc.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 09/09/2016 19:39

Love the Mac Smile. One of my sisters friends was named Rhiannon after the song Grin

woodhill · 09/09/2016 19:41

Agree about the Seekers, Simon and Garfunkel, Carpenters all my favourites.

I love 60s music too and the Springfields Island of Dreams

Willow2016 · 09/09/2016 19:45

Kate Bush - amazing, am old enough to have her stuff on vinyl! Played it endlessly (and danced around to 'Wuthering Heights' Blush ) Some hauntingly beautiful songs 'The man with the child in his eyes' , 'Army Dreamers', and weird and wonderful ones 'Coffee Homeground' love her.

Deux · 09/09/2016 19:45

Oh my. Agree withal many here.

Rumours would be on my top 10 to take to a desert island

Simon and Garfunkel Bridge Over Trounled Water. Know every word as my mum played it when I was little and we'd sing along together.

Carpenters, yes.

Carole King and so many others.

Oh, The Band ... Could go on.

TattiePants · 09/09/2016 19:53

Deux I was just about to suggest Carole King - absolutely love her.

I can still remember the first time I heard Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd and realised it wasn't the Scissor Sisters' song! OK I was only 4 when the original came out but I love 70's music.

BeMorePanda · 09/09/2016 19:56

Re Beach Boys start with the album Pet Sounds.

Also
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers "Damn the Torpedos".

Tori Amos "little earthquakes" (named after the female orgasm. Grin

Human League "dare".

All of Pink Floyd.

Alberta Hunter "amtrack blues" - recorded in her 70's and fantastic.

FurryLittleTwerp · 09/09/2016 19:57

DH loves Stevie Nicks - I hate her voice but like a lot of Fleetwood Mac's stuff.

DimsieMaitland · 09/09/2016 19:58

I have got my DD hooked on Carole King and Carly Simon but hadn't thought about Fleetwood Mac for her - great idea.

I also love Steeleye Span. Even if Folk rock isn't your thing, Maddy Prior is another one with a truly amazing voice.

BeMorePanda · 09/09/2016 19:58

Flying Burritto Bros - alt county, incredible songs and vocal harmonies.

Ego147 · 09/09/2016 19:59

Could go back even further and you could listen to Dusty Springfield

TattiePants · 09/09/2016 20:02

Son of a preacher man is such a classic. I love going on a long drive on my own so I can blast Dusty, The Carpenters and Carole King without anyone complaining.

frikadela01 · 09/09/2016 20:03

We have a rule in my family that if you are going to listen to Pink Floyds The Wall then you must only listen to it from start to finish. No cherry picking songs and no starting if you want finish. It's our long journey album.

frikadela01 · 09/09/2016 20:05

If you can't finish. Damn autocorrect

woodhill · 09/09/2016 20:06

I love All around my hat blasting in the car.

mrsmalcolmreynolds · 09/09/2016 20:15

All the above are great, agree. For a stunning pure voice, check out Judy Collins - her version of "Both Sides Now" makes a really interesting contrast with those by Joni Mitchell. We had JC's own song "What I'll Give You Since You've Asked" at our wedding - I think it's the most romantic song ever!

allthecarbs · 09/09/2016 20:20

Oh so many bands to start myself on, I had no idea I was missing so much.
Already a huge fan of the carpenters because I've listened to them since I was little, I feel soothed as soon as she starts singing. I'm fond of a bit of Dusty too.

Going to start making a list Smile

May have to go in the loft and transfer the vinyl it to the computer now ...

Ego147 · 09/09/2016 20:22

I think Gold greatest hits

Some of us had the original albums when they came out Grin

Lalaloopsyscaresme · 09/09/2016 20:23

I went to see fleetwood mac last year in concert. Stevie was amazing, they all were but she belted Rhiannon like she was 25 again.
My favourite Stevie song is Storms from the tusk album, also beautiful child.
My favourite solo song is Beauty and tge Beast, it takes my breath away every time.

bookbook · 09/09/2016 20:23

Ego147 - mines from about 1976? something like that...

woodhill · 09/09/2016 20:35

My parents had the brown carpenters album always played in the car on journeys, still love it.

Deux · 09/09/2016 20:35

Oh and what about The Eagles?

I'm not a Beatles fan at all but love Paul McCartney & Wings album Band on the Run.

I think when I get a quiet moment I'm going to put together a playlist with some of these on Spotify. Smile. It will take me to a Happy Place. Smile

Jackson Browne too ..... Must stop.
