...to listen to Stevie Nicks?! I've just 'discovered' her and I'm in love already. How have I gone this long not knowing she exists?

What songs/albums should I be listening to?

OP posts:
Cellardoor23 · 10/09/2016 00:31

I love Fleetwood Mac too. I have so many favourite songs. I really like Sara and Seven Wonders.

WanderingNotLost · 10/09/2016 00:31

EO17 and Landslide. Two amazing songs.

CoolCarrie · 10/09/2016 00:34

Phoebe Snow is another wonderful singer you should check out too OP, especially Every Night.

CoolCarrie · 10/09/2016 00:35

You are soo lucky to have all this wonderful music to discover!!!

UnGoogleable · 10/09/2016 00:43

Wow I'd never seen the live versions of them doing Silver Springs - there's a whole heap of unresolved passion right there. If i was Lindsey's wife I wouldn't let him out of my sight!

I also have a huge crush on LB, he was bloody gorgeous and still sexy in his silver fox years.

BeastofCraggyIsland · 10/09/2016 00:44

I'm a huge FM fan having been introduced to them at an early age by my Mum; I got her tickets to see them at the O2 last year for her Christmas present and they were INCREDIBLE. Hands down the best concert I've ever been to and I've been to quite a few.

Cellardoor23 · 10/09/2016 00:45

I love Tory Amos Cornflake Girl. It's so weird but strangely brilliant.

Cellardoor23 · 10/09/2016 00:50

Tori

UnGoogleable · 10/09/2016 00:52

I'd kill to see FM live - do you think they'll ever tour again or was last year their final one?

I LOVED Tori Amos back in the 90s. I'll have to have a little revival, I think she's a musical genius. A lot of her lyrics totally went over my head when I was young, I think I'd understand her more now.

I'm also deeply into Suzanne Vega - she is so much more than Tom's Diner and Luca. Gypsy is hauntingly beautiful. I once saw her in the Acoustic tent at Glastonbury, just her and her guitar. She was stunning.

Tezza1 · 10/09/2016 01:02

Stevie is my hero - I used to dress like her in my younger days and know all the words to her songs and to FMs. My favourite singer (and band) of all time.
I remember having my hair permed like hers (the start of a long love affair with big perms) and was so excited when a bloke I fancied said "Love the Stevie Nicks' hair look."

UnGoogleable · 10/09/2016 01:09

I was once told I sang like her. I really don't. I think the bloke was just trying to get into my pants.

pennefabredux · 10/09/2016 03:02

You are ALL NBU! I have spent several hours listening to Stevie and others now that you reminded me ... Will I ever stop listening? Brings me back to the days ...

derxa · 10/09/2016 03:40

If i was Lindsey's wife I wouldn't let him out of my sight! I so agree.
Stevie and Lindsay are still canoodling on stage.
I'm sure I still have Rumours on vinyl.
God this thread makes me feel old.

AnnaT45 · 10/09/2016 03:58

There was an excellent documentary on fleetwood Mac a few years back. I can't remember the name now but a lot of it focused on when they made rumours. It was brilliant! Stevies face when they're recording 'go your own way' is classic. The hatred towards Lindsey Buckingham is something we can all identify with! M

I saw them a few years ago in concert. Amazing!!

(not sure if that link will work, SN presenting some kind of live streaming music thing).. depths of the internet at 5am

bookbook · 10/09/2016 08:49

I love the Dixie Chicks - lovely voices - Home is my favourite album
and I prefer their version of Landslide - Blush

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 10/09/2016 08:52

Don't wanna brag or owt, but DD has her stereo programmed to wake her up each morning with Little Lies playing from it :)

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 10/09/2016 09:14

We had EO17 on our wedding reception playlist and it cleared the dance floor Grin philistines.

BeMorePanda · 10/09/2016 11:06

Oh yes the Stevie perm memories GrinBlush

KatieScarlett · 10/09/2016 11:20

As PP said, "Storms" by FM should be listened to, preferably loud in the car for singalong purposes. DD and I make a habit of this.
And yes, Rumours is the best album in the world, ever. Went through 3 vinyl copies and 2 CD's before the magic of downloading meant I couldn't wear it out.
Finally, if you want to understand the dynamic of FM, Mick Fleetwoods book is well worth a read... Shock

Whathaveilost · 10/09/2016 11:24

I love (most) of Marianne Faithfull's stuff.
From the dreamy as tears go by to the rather raunchy Woring Class Hero album to more recently 'Give my love to London' with a collaboration with Nick Cave.
Very intresting. I just skip the folky stage.

CustardOmlet · 10/09/2016 11:33

Can I add PJ Harvey to the mix? I'm a massive Kate Bush and Tori Amos fan, and PJ is just as amazing. I inherited much of my music taste from my DF, however it took me a long time to discover Stevie as he liked the original FM line up.

mammmamia · 10/09/2016 14:15

Only read first page of this thread and nothing useful to add except I also love love Stevie Nicks and her voice!!

Ego147 · 10/09/2016 14:22

Suzanne Vega - loved her music, also someone mentioned Carly Simon. Love this mix she did at a concert
