How the hell do people clean bathroom only once a week?!

I'm genuinely interested here because I've read many a MN thread of ways in which to save time at home and almost always, people say clean the bathroom once a week! Now, I clean my bathroom everyday and even doing that the amount of scum I clean away each day surely would be unhygienic after a whole week? It leaves me baffled, I'm genuinely interested to know if the people that clean once a week have really dirty bathrooms by the end of it?! To put into perspective I thoroughly wipe the sink, toilet and bath surround - spray the bath and tiles and wash off before bleaching the toilet and wiping the floor which takes all of 10 mins. How do people get away with it?!

My bathroom is usually only cleaned once a week and it's fine.

I don't know how anyone makes enough mess to require it cleaning more than once a week unless there are lots of you sharing a bathroom.

I've only managed to read the first 200 posts or so. OP seems really angry about this. I can't really understand why.

OP didn't seem to accept that bathrooms don't need deep cleaning everyday and got a bit defensive when people tried to tell her that. Bathrooms really just need a wipe round the basin and loo seat as and when and bleach down loo couple time a week followed a big weekly clean. Certainly not ten minutes a day. I reckon that is pretty average for most homes.

I went to a really good museum in Amsterdam called Micropia. There was an exhibit which showed that using detergents & bleach very often kills benign bacteria, and actually allows dangerous bacteria to flourish. They suggested we should all be using pro-biotic cleaners rather than anti-biotic ones.

Great museum. If anyone is ever in Amsterdam I would thoroughly recommend it.

Careful Beryl, Celeste might explode!

MatildaOfTuscany · 04/09/2016 18:20

I have decided to extend Elizabeth I's attitude to personal hygiene to my bathroom and clean it once a year, whether it needs it or not.

celeste83 · 04/09/2016 18:33

The only things that will be exploding will be the cells of the germs in my loo later when i squirt domestos over them. The germs won't have you to protect them HeCan'tBeSerious It will just be me, a few million germs scurrying for cover under the rim for dear life, and my bottle of domestos mwhahaha Grin

Personally I am a fan of vinegar for just about everything. Sinks, especially around taps, shower heads, stinky pits on clothes, dandruffy scalps, wasp bites - you name it, vinegar is pretty effective.

Chopstick17 · 05/09/2016 18:13

Me too beryl I use a a mix of white vinegar and water for mirrors and windows plus sinks. If you mix with bicarb you get a good fizz for cleaning drains and plug holes and toilets.

BerylStreep · 05/09/2016 20:17

Ohh, I didn't know about mixing with bicarb to get a fizz. Great idea!

DD had really oily dandruff and a spray of vinegar on her scalp before washing sorted it out. It really is fantastic.
