How the hell do people clean bathroom only once a week?!

I'm genuinely interested here because I've read many a MN thread of ways in which to save time at home and almost always, people say clean the bathroom once a week! Now, I clean my bathroom everyday and even doing that the amount of scum I clean away each day surely would be unhygienic after a whole week? It leaves me baffled, I'm genuinely interested to know if the people that clean once a week have really dirty bathrooms by the end of it?! To put into perspective I thoroughly wipe the sink, toilet and bath surround - spray the bath and tiles and wash off before bleaching the toilet and wiping the floor which takes all of 10 mins. How do people get away with it?!

I don't do housework wither. Every now and again we will on a weekend, just have a quick whizz round with the hoover, and dust but that's it. Bleach goes in the toilet but if noticably dirty I will go around the bath with antibac wipe...
Got more important things to do.

I keep saying I need to steam mop the kitchen and bathroom but been having work done in our house for months and just can't be arsed to clean the floors for them to get dirty again the following day

Mummaaaaaah · 02/09/2016 11:04

Ours get a deep clean (by the cleaner 1x per week). The rest of the time we just, you know, don't piss on the floor and give the sink a swish so you don't leave tooth paste all over it.

THIS!!!

Jesus wept.

Cleaning up after your son has missed the toilet does not count as "cleaning the bathroom" every day though.

That's like saying "I clean the kitchen 3 times per day" because I wipe up the milk or crumbs after each meal.

PollyPerky · 02/09/2016 12:58

I am - being honest- genuinely shocked at the slatterns here. Grin

It's like doing a bit of cleaning is hard work...FGS....actually puts me off moving when I learn how scruffy some folks are while they live in the houses!

Don't think the OP was talking about a 'deep clean'- something that has come into our language only recently - it used to be called a 'jolly good clean'. 'Deep' clean is something that is sold by cleaning companies so punters part with their cash.

My jolly good clean includes:
washing bath & basin incl pedestal, and descaling taps (hard water area)
cleaning mirror on cabinet
mopping floor and getting dust off dark skirting boards ( bathroom is 15 ft x 7 ft so not exactly tiny)
Wiping tiles on windowsill
Wiping dust off window frames
Getting rid of cobwebs
Limescale remover down loo.

My 10-minute clean every other day is spraying bath, taps and basin with cleaner and wiping off/ use shower hose. This gets rid of soap scum .

If necessary, I wipe loo seat and put bleach down.

This is an en suite and used mainly by me and DH.

Family bathroom is cleaned after guests have used it.

justgivemeamo · 02/09/2016 13:40

no scum here at all Confused how is it generating?

I give the loo seat a quick dettol spray and wipe after every use as we have toddler loo training but nearly everything else once a week is fine?

HeCantBeSerious · 02/09/2016 13:42

I could weep with all this bleach/antibac being used.

You wouldn't believe the toilets I visited on holiday last week. I'm not ocd or anything but that did make me feel sick and hope I wasn't Ill 😯made me feel good about my bathroom

RepentAtLeisure · 02/09/2016 14:39

It bothers me that you say you clean the bathroom every day, and work, and look after two dc's. So apparently you live with someone who cleans the bathroom much less than once a week. Ask him...

MindSweeper · 02/09/2016 14:42

My bathroom just doesn't need cleaning everyday. It'd be a wasted effort. And I don't think it's ever been scummy in the time I've lived here never mind after a day.

ApocalypseNowt · 02/09/2016 15:51

Can't remember the last time ours had a proper clean. Think it was by dh a couple of weeks ago when we had visitors.

I don't have better things to do either. I just can't be arsed cleaning very much. House looks ok to me. DC only showing mild signs of cholera.

Fuck me. How much chemical crap is getting washed down sinks and bogs??!! Once a week is enough. If someone is pissing on the seat/leaving skids/spluttering toothpaste, teach them to clear up after themselves.

RattataPidgeyRattataPidgey · 02/09/2016 17:23

We just don't clean it unless visitors are coming. So that'll be a good two months since we last did it. I would probably do it more but we have a wet room and incredibly hard water, so a) anything I use on the tiled walls washes down onto the floor and leaves 'soap scum' that needs to be scrubbed away rather than just flushed, and I cba, and b) it's all similarly scummy-looking within a week anyway.

There's no window, and only a passive ventilation system, so every time I shower the whole place is covered in condensation. Then that dries, and leaves marks. Who the fuck still cares enough in the face of that?

RattataPidgeyRattataPidgey · 02/09/2016 17:24

Oh and DH gets toothpaste on the sink within a day of wiping it. So I don't bother with wiping that in the interim anymore either. He also wipes it on the clean hand towel so I'm considering leaving that for weeks and seeing if he stops using it at some point.

bluebeck · 02/09/2016 17:33

Oh I just can't be bothered. It doesn't get that messy anyway.

I have too many interesting books to read, friends to meet, walls to stare at, rather than cleaning the bloody bathroom every day.

redexpat · 02/09/2016 17:34

Dh showers at work mostly. Dc go in the bath once a week as they both swim during the week and ahower there. I shower every other day. Toilet block in the loo keeps the worst off it. Plus i have low standards.

redexpat · 02/09/2016 17:35

And we are all out of the house on weekdays.

Anniegetyourgun · 02/09/2016 17:37

People clean their bathrooms? Gosh.

AliceScarlett · 02/09/2016 17:38

I do mine once a week, it is a bit scummy by the end, the dust seems to congeal somewhat.

Madeyemoodysmum · 02/09/2016 17:43

Ha ha. Term time mines weekly but this school hols. I've inly cleaned it ONCE!!!!!! I've done the loo aNd sink more tho 😂

user1471552005 · 02/09/2016 17:51

I do a deep clean only once a month or so.
But they don't always get too grubby. The bath is used only once or twice a week, DD and I have en suite shower/toilets and the downstairs toilet only gets used for the odd pee.
So light use all round. A light daily wipe of sinks and taps is enough to keep everything clean.
So 4 toilets between 5 people.
